[Open Class] wrapped up (sorrow)

[Toshihiko Two]

She had always been living, breathing, jumping before. Maybe to prove to herself that she was more than an object. But when times grew lean she found herself changing.

She loved to jog, she did.

Now she spent many days on the roof, silent and still. She sympathized more with the mortar and the tiling. What was left of her was something restless, something far off, the only thing that gave her any thrills still: The rustle of forbidden leaves in an old and dark forest. The other part of her, the part of her that lived and was not mortar, sold bags of crushed flowers to hungry-eyed patrons. It scaled buildings and crept into locked windows. Its family was made in exchanges, trust bought and sold.

So, when she was through with her jobs, she went as far up as up went, and was quiet and still.

There was school, too. When she went she skulked to the backs of classrooms for a while. Today there was harm, or healing, and she wasn't sure if it mattered which one.

A fever. Some creatures were fragile, at risk at the smallest change in temperature. She put a claw on the dummy, and felt her chilly stone suck away the heat relentlessly.

Cricket frowned, looking pointedly at the supplies.

Sorrow snuck a couple of bandages on.

...It just wasn't right.

Sorrow braced herself to try again.

This time she used the damp washcloth. Water was cooling, right? At the thought, she began to drool, and wiped the sides of her mouth with the back of her claw, trying to suppress the embarrassing rush of water.

In spite of the drool and the water squeezed everywhere, Cricket at least seemed...approving of the job.

Right. Onto the next one.

Was this different, somehow? Being too hot for too long? Maybe it was so much heat, they'd need cooling down from the inside. She drooled water again, but ignored it, using the supplied cup to tip some into the magically-heated dummy's mouth.

She waited for the result, eyeing the mud with a little more sympathy than she might have had for a dummy made of meat.

Cricket seemed actually impressed.

Was this all it took to be a healer? Pouring water on and in things?

Cricket pointed a long, centipedey finger and yet another dummy.

This one was...too cold?

Sorrow looked over the supplies, and clearing her mouth, reached hesitantly for the steamy and hot drink. Should she pour it over them, or in them?

Water cooled quickly. She decided on in. The dummy's insides were naturally warm, and the water would stay warm there.

With a long look at Cricket, and then the supplies, she wrapped him a bit and put a blanket over the dummy, to insulate the water.

Water, Sorrow guessed, was the key to everything.

And now she was dribbling everywhere. Great.

Still, she had passed, and learned.
