ℵ Cijel - a continent that was once full of peace and compromise - is now threatened by a Civil War between two lands. Cini; a land where nobility is high and magic even higher, and Ostrica; a land of soldiers and swords - Cinian people want freedom from the shackles put on by Ostrician citizens. They want freedom to practice magic; to teach magic; to become a land of people and not a land of tales.
ℵ One of the Seven Holy Rulers of Cijel - Empress Pravada III - wanted peace and equality of practice for the two opposing lands. In a desperate move to have such a treaty, she created and passed a peace summit between the Rulers of the Cini and Ostrica lands to hold a peaceful compromise.
ℵ A hall was held for such compromise. The deal that was almost settled between the lands had been interrupted by a third party unknown to either side. The hall was set aflame, destroyed in an attempt to massacre the people at the compromise. The orchestrate of the scheme had tore open a thread in the fabric between Life and Death, opening a seam to let through demons and malicious spirits into Cijel.
ℵ All but Empress Pravada III have been slaughtered; the Empress was held and tortured in an attempt to surrender all of Cijel to the orchestrate of evil. This attempt, however, was interrupted by a savior through the Empress' plea for help. That is where the story begins...
Our protagonist of this story was not a hero at the beginning. They were hired by an unknown party in order to compromise the peace treaty, to see where the flaws were in order to corrupt the peace between the lines and begin the war again - so there would be a true and noble ending to the fight; so that the only way the war would end was through bloodshed, as it should be.
They had survived the explosion and massacre of attendees, hearing the plea of Empress Pravada III. With a rush, our protagonist attempted to save her. The orchestrate of the evil was a massive, grotesque being built of fear and evil. They expelled our protagonist from the room, however unbeknownst to them, they had sealed the one thing that would save the land within our hero - The Key.
As our protagonist was expelled, so was the Empress. They had been tossed into the seam between Life and Death, where spirits with no place roamed in anger, confusion, frustration, loneliness, and sorrow. To escape, the Empress led our hero to the summit of the realm in order to run back through the seam.
The orchestrator, however, had plans to keep them from escaping. They only had gotten to the Empress just after she could deliver the message to our hero:
"Warn the people! Save Cijel from corrupted peace and this new evil! Go!"
Our protagonist escaped while the Empress perished. However, as our hero escaped, they came through the same seam that was all over Cijel, pouring with monsters and demons.
Our hero had no memory of the compromised or the events at the hall - they had no memory of Empress' last words.
Picked up by the Cijel Order, our hero begins their path...
