It was just after lunchtime but Aulus hadn't eaten, he was far too damn excited to eat! At fourteen hundred hours he was meeting up with Faleen and, if all went well, he might even walk out of the tech department with two arms. He was trying not to get his hopes up too much, there could still be things that needed working out and fixing or bits that weren't quite completed but maybe?

13:30 to 13:45 saw Aulus sitting in his room, fidgeting with this and that and glancing at the clock every other second. As soon as the time clicked around to quarter to the hour he abandoned the trainee progress report he'd been failing to work on and hastened down to the tech department.

Thirteen minutes to two. That wasn't too early right? Right.

He stepped through the door into the low security area of the tech floor and turned to make for the engineering department. Would Faleen already be here? Probably, Faleen wasn't the sort of person who was late for things.

Faleen was in charge of a lot of different projects within the TRHQ robotics program, many of them she simply overlooked, some projects were personal, most of them were high priority jobs that she took on herself, and then there was commission work.
Well.. it was partly commission work in this case, An Agent... a useful Agent had lost an arm in a recent mission, one she had attended herself. Medical had requested that she take on his personal project for his, and thus the organizations benefit.
Of course she would take on this project.

The fact that it was creating and building a functioning robotic arm was just a bonus, she had always wanted to make something like this that would eventually replace important human limbs, small things like optical replacements were simple compared to the importance of an actual functioning and complicated limb.
The project had provided a great deal of excitement to her, and a good distraction as she worked her way through the different features she could put into the arm.

The product had been completed, and Faleen had asked that Aulus come in for an appointment to run the first tests... and if everything went well walked out with his new arm.
An hour before he showed up the engineer put away the other projects she was working on, and started to use the space to put out Aulus' new arm and the tools she would need.

"-Arrival: Agent Aulus-" The mechanical voice from the computer announced while Faleen double checked the bolts integrity. Lifting her head up, she placed the tool back onto the table and made her way toward the door.

The door opened as Aulus walked up to revile Agent Faleen standing with her hands behind her back, and a shiny Froakie sitting by her boot.
"Agent Aulus, thank you for being on time." She said, gesturing him to enter the robotics lab.

He tried for a friendly smile but somehow ended up with a stupid grin on his face instead. Oh well! He couldn't seem to care about that right now, and who didn't like it when people were excited about their work?

"No problem," he replied, "the difficult thing was not being an hour early!"

Aww, Froakie! Shiny colouration was always striking but, far more importantly, it looked fir and healthy. "Good looking Frokaie you've got there," he offered, waving to the bubble frog as he spoke; regardless of the situation Aulus always had time for pokemon, unless there was actually immediate risk to life and limb of course.

Limb!

It took all of his willpower to walk along with Faleen like a normal person rather than bouncing like an overexcited child.

She wasn't expecting the smile that she was met with, and though she didn't much feel like smiling much these days, she offered a polite, though tired one in return.
"I imagine it would be, I appreciate your patience though."

When attention was brought down to her Froakie Faleen glanced down at him, the little water type eyes Aulus back, and with a slight puff of his cheeks caused the bubbles around his neck to froth a little more.
"Thank you." She replied, with no comment from the frog.

Faleen took the lead once the door was closed behind them, leading him through the work stations to her impressive set up.
As they drew closer to one of the work tables, Aulus would spot it, the shiny mechanical arm being supported by a stand on top of one of the work benches parts at the end were still assembled, the pieces laying out along the table in near order.

A Scraggy was perched up with his arms on the table, stretched out with his tiny legs on a rolling chair that threatened to roll out from under her as he stared over the arm with wide eyes.

Froakie hopped over when he saw this, landing next to the seat

The Scraggy retorted, looking down at the Froakie before looking back at the arm He retorted sticking out his tongue at the frog Pokemon, causing the small school of Carvanha in a huge tank set up over her work space to snicker and cackle.

Rather focused on himself at the moment though he was Aulus noticed the tiredness in Faleen's smile. He didn't know her well enough to know what it meant, if she was just worn out or if something was up or.... It was probably none of his business. As they approached the work table however what the tired smile did or did not mean was completely driven out of his mind.

That right there was sodding beautiful.

"Wow." The Scraggy's comments warranted a brief glance and a little - heh - of amusement but Aulus was soon gazing at the prosthetic limb again. "It's amazing," he said softly, stopping just in front of the bench with his eyes running over every detail of every component laid out waiting. This was surreal, to actually be standing here looking at it after so much time and frustration and so many operations to make him ready to use it. And here it was. And here he was. Wow.

Pleased to see that Aulus was impressed with the first impression, Faleen crossed the table, making a gesture to and empty seat by the table.
"Please have a seat, I'll have to do some assembling."

She paused at the table next to her pokemon, causing the Scraggy to perk up, pushing himself off of the table and hopping off of the seat that Faleen then took up. taking a moment to go through her tools.

Aulus sat down as instructed, watching Faleen intently. Did she mind being watched when she was working? He knew it pissed him off to have people looking over his shoulder. He couldn't not watch though, it was fascinating as much as it was thrilling to see it all laid out there and then start coming together.

"You like hanging around out here then Scraggy?" he asked the fighting type for the sake of saying something rather than just starting at the arm like... like a... thing that stares at things a lot. Yep, his colourful analogy abilities had gone right out of the window at the moment. Presumably his brain needed all of its processing power in order to be extra excited.

After a moment to gather what she needed, Faleen reached out for Aulus' stub, that had already been prepped by medical for this procedure.
She worked silently as she began to assemble the first part onto his arm, piece by piece.

Scraggy looked up quickly at the mention of his name, having been tugging at his pants.
Blinking his wide eyes, lips falling away from his teeth, he perked up when being addressed to by an Agent and nodded in agreement.
He stared at the Agent for a while, looking at the man's arm and Faleen working with it.
<... What happened to his arm?> Scraggy asked, leaning to the side and half crouching by Froakie

Froakie frowned, but shrugged in response
Scraggy continued reaching out to push the Froakie who barely even budged

Aulus wasn't exactly comfortable with having somebody around the remnant of his arm but he knew it was necessary, and being able to watch the process of assembly made it a lot more bearable. "It was badly damaged on a mission," he said for the Scraggy's benefit. "The medics tried to fix it but they couldn't, so they had to cut it off. Still, this'll be better than real right Faleen?" There would be downsides of course but at the moment he was feeling very good indeed about the whole thing, about having two hands again! Things that had been a struggle for the past year - almost a year - wouldn't be anymore and he'd be able to actually start doing interesting duties again. Next time there was a big mission he'd be able to go.

When the human seemed to answer Scraggy's question directly, the smaller pokemon jerked his head back toward the Agent, eyes wide and mouth falling open.
Faleen too, lifting her head in slight confusion at first as to what Aulus was talking about, gave a quick glance toward Scraggy, then back to Aulus.
"... Were you talking to him?" Faleen asked, half worried that there had been a part of a conversation she might have missed while she was busy working.

Scraggy asked, pointing to himself.

"Oh, yes," Aulus nodded in response, "I can understand fighting types now apparently, pretty handy." Ahaha, handy. Aulus gave a little 'heh' of amusement and shook his head. "Didn't mean to make that pun."
PostPosted: Sun Jun 21, 2015 2:24 pm
Scraggy burst out, hitching up his pants and hurrying toward the rough looking agent

Faleen caught the pun, and gave a polite smile to its acknowledgment, as she worked. "fighting types huh? Scraggy is the only one of my team who is partly that type." She noted, watching the pokemon's excitement.

Aulus nodded. "Yeah. I've got two on my team right now, Sawk and Heracross. Do you have a type yet?" Well that had come out sounding a little weird and the answer was potentially 'blond nerds' but he assumed she'd know what he meant from the context. He hoped so anyway.

He looked down at Scrafty - moving on - and smiled. "It is pretty cool, I'm still getting used to hearing snatches of conversation from unexpected places. It makes it much easier to talk to my team too; it was kind of awkward having to have the Lugia out to play translator, much easier with pokemon that comfortably fit into an average room."

Faleen had her qualms with Sychic types, while she saw the benafit of the legendary as translators, she wouldn't even begin to trust one. with a soft nod as she worked Faleen replied
"Water."
she paused as she reached for another tool "I find that quite fortunate, as well as a little unfortunate."

Scraggy complained, crossing his arms with a slight huff.
Scraggy reached a hand out to Aulus though

"Unfortunate? - Ah," Aulus nodded as Scraggy added clarity, "yes, dark type would have been more convenient for you wouldn't it? I wonder how it works, why you end up with the type you do? That'd be interesting to study."

When Scraggy reached a hand out to him Aulus reached back for a handshake, fist bump, or whatever else seemed appropriate when the hands actually intersected. "Well, glad to be able to understand you."
