~Greetings and Welcome to my idea and RP construction yard and Cauldron~


First a tiny description as to what this is and how it works. I am Galaxy Commander an old ancient decrepit being in the universe of rp'ing who's nearing the concept of retiring from the rp world. I, like many others from my era of rp'ing, am clinging to that wonton hope that something fantastic will break the slowly declining creativity in the rp world and story's that grip all the writers hearts can and still are left to be rp'ed.

As such I enjoy RPing more than I like creating rp's, yet as a downside to rping so much I have come to find that I can create rather unique story-lines, and enjoy it just as much as those who participate. This brings me to the Factory and stew pot. Here I cook up and bake the filling for the pie and then go out to create interactive stories written with multiple main characters from the perspective of their corresponding authors, known simply as roleplaying or RP. (Excuse me if I go on tangents now and then of description call it a habit, or a disease even)

1.
So to get started I will begin throwing out categories. The first Category is rather broad in capacity yet sets down a generalized idea of what the scene of each rp is. To be known as Genre. Examples of genre is simple as fantasy, science fiction, horror, psychological thriller, vampire romance etc etc etc.

2.
The second is a more specific depiction to time-frame which is not so hard to figure using our current reality as the basis for what is modern. Past, future and modern. This of course leads to general accepted technology within it as well but not always is true.

3.
This tells the Format of said rp. Now in most cases this is taken for granted. However over the years several different formats have arisen.

Most rp's are free-flow, post is not necessarily put into an order, everyone can post freely and as often as they like, the downside to this one is those who lead more busy lives login to 10 pages of posts and throw out the story being left behind is a depressing and disappointing place to be.

The alternative can also have bad results fully ordered often has the entire rp waiting weeks and even months for one person to post causing massive periods of stagnation and eventually a dead rp. Thus most rp's are a somewhat organized free-flow.

However there are other forms of format, chapter based rp's, multiple threaded rp's, tournament format, 1x1's so on and so forth.

4.
The steak and potatoes, is the actual plotline. this is usually a brief description given in my case they tend to not be so brief.. regardless this is the fishing hook and the bait to reel in the potential participants. the advertisement and the entire basis for what is going to happen in the rp.

5.
The character type. Very simply every rp demands different types of characters. While some characters are more flexible and can work like the blob fitting themselves to any situation and form most are designed specifically to the rp and furthermore most rp's ask for specific points on each character that relate specifically to the rp.

And now for the reason this thread exists. It is one for me to advertise ideas bubbling around in my head to build into rp's for the good of all to dive into.. but more than that it is to build ideas in general and even more so, I like to help people build rp's. I liek to see others succeed in building themselves. Think of me as Galaxy-sama or Galaxy-sensei. I like to teach others how to make those ideas that when typed out into an rp look like something better than "There is a bar in the middle of the woods. You find yourself there. With curious characters around you. Bam start roleplaying!!!!"

While this roleplaying style does work, and can lead to much more significant role-plays it is not that appetizing to the vast majority of fellow authors about. Instead I like to poke and prod the idea into a much more fulfilling description that actually brings in the rp'er base to get the story going somewhere. For example give the characters a reason to be at the bar, give the bartender a personality and perhaps a cigar. Have the bar be the only building on an entire jungle island that for some reason is the only place where everything on the island including the local fauna isn't trying to kill your character. Regardless the point simply being I like to help others develop rp's into much more than just the run of the mill rp. You can't judge a book by it's cover but you can judge a book by the filling. I like to help it get the filling. In an rp's case this is almost always visible from the cover.

For now I have three ideas I would like to put out that I am formulating into rp's.

~The first idea;~
The Mysterious Cave

The First Chapter; A team of scientists and militants are being gathered to investigate a cave. This cave is mysterious as it opened up randomly just outside of what is Currently known as Denver. It has been locked off because of it's unknown origin. It shouldn't exist, who caused this cave to erupt outward? Terrorists, Aliens, or maybe even a missing culture? No one knows so far the explorers sent within have never returned. Specialists from every corner of the Earth are being gathered for an expedition to figure out what this mysterious cave is. They will be escorted by the highest trained and most skilled militants that can be found. By the end of the first chapter, Something huge is going to happen within the cave. What occurs in the cave will change based on how the rp goes.

Format: Chapter Based RP. This means I have most if not all of the rp laid out on an outline. As the RP progresses with each chapter more positions for people to join and characters will become available. The story will change with each coming chapter, and time passes within the story. Within each chapter events will occur that have multiple possible outcomes. Some good some bad. In the end the players dictate what that outcome is.

Style: I am a firm believer in realistic style. What this means is no characters are all powerful, in fact to begin with there are no such things as super powers (this may change) This also means there is a high chance a character can die, and injuries don't just disappear. This makes the doctor character a very important position. This environment however is not designed to try and kill your characters while some of the events will be harrowing your characters end is ultimately up to the author.

Time-Frame: Modern/ post modern. This rp starts roughly the year 2020 Not a large amount of things have changed from now to then. Mostly the world has spent some time recovering economically and began moving yet again.

Characters: to be announced upon actual creation of said rp.



The Second Idea
The Maze Of Doom

Prologue



You are a warrior. Your power could be of magical, technological, or just of pure brute force and the capacity to completely overwhelm those who oppose you. Maybe your power is the ability to reel in the Warriors, seduce them, and win through man's greatest weakness. It matters not. You have been awoken this night to an unidentified noise, shortly after, pain rages out through your head and everything goes black. When you awake you are within a strange cold metal cage suspended from a ceiling. Around you is a cold very strange chamber and more cages each with another occupant. All that is known is that none of you come from the same place, time or dimension, and you can somehow understand one another. You may not be human, you could be half animal, demon ,vampire or lycan. The end result is the same. Even androids and cybernetic enhanced creatures are found in the cages. The question is what are you and how will you live?



Welcome To the Forsaken Games


In this roleplay your character has been kidnapped, and they know absolutely nothing of their captors. When they awake they find themselves inside of a strange metal cage with all their weapons. All their powers have been untouched. Within the chamber is a total of eight cages. All of which have a different person within. Freeing themselves from the cage is yet their first challenge and outside help from the others is strangely blocked, although they will find that out. They then must learn out nearly everything about their situation from scratch with no information. Will they work together as a team, or run solo? The most thrilling element of this roleplay is that no matter who the character or how powerful there is a very real chance they will die. Don't worry if your character is going to die it will be made glorious. Also note that this strange new area sometimes can revive those who die regardless of their circumstances. But finding out how to get that to work is another hurdle. As the Roleplay continues more characters will be found within the halls of the unknown. This leaves the roleplay open to have more members as well as for those who have lost to return with a new character. Also note this rp environment is to make a rich intense storyline the goal is not to kill you all, although it will be difficult to survive. Are you a survivor?

Format: Open chapter based. The concept of chapters is not as vivid as the exploration of the maze and the interaction with the maze is a constant. The rooms that are unique depict steps of progress, as a certain amount of progress is achieved the story will be put on hold for the next Chapter to begin. These Hold points are truly recruitment of new maze runners and or revival of the old who died and suddenly return.

Style: Realistic power based, Your characters can be a normal human with no extra powers, Or your character can be an alien that's psychic. The powers are open and only restricted by what is godmoding. This entire rp is a survival rp, but that does not restrict romance and any other sorts of drama and politics, in fact they are encouraged and prompted to make the story more rich. There is a VERY REAL chance your character will die, that is what the rp environment is trying to do kill you all.

Time Frame: Is not applicable

Characters: Whatever you want with some exceptions.


The Third
Merlins Magic Unravels



Alternate modern reality.

The time is now but things begin to change around the world. That mythological world of magic and monsters that existed centuries in the past seems to have been in a parallel existence and for some reason it is re-merging with our reality. People suddenly find themselves able to do strange magical powers. Scattered event are reported all about. People suddenly disappearing and returning with stories that are beyond reality. A remote village had a troll smash and kill most of the occupants.

A group is coming together to figure out what is going on. Can the events be undone and stop more from happening? Can the world return to normal or is the inevitable horror of both worlds becoming one going to happen.

Format: Open free style. Organized groups running around or individuals moving about freely exploring the worlds and interacting with the worlds trying to accomplish their own goals.

Style: TV show/ Realistic. What this means is there is a very low possibility a character will die. The environment is significantly open and a standardized roleplay idea. Each character is a main character in their own story adding to the overall story in this environment,they belong to one of the two sides and will figure things out as they go along (The prime evil is going to be my ending boss character who is overpowered as an individual he will require a group to put down.)

Characters: Either modern humans with technology or the creatures of fantasy with magic, and magical technology (don't think they spent the past several generations not developing technology or powers) There are restrictions of course I dislike all-powerful players.





The concept. Vote for which idea or ideas you think you would enjoy participating within and talk here about it. If there is enough interest I will follow through and make one fully. An alternative is to talk to me and we can make something else work as well. That can even be your rp rp's or a collaborative one. I really like your first and 3rd idea. The 2nd one is fine enough, but I know rp's like that tend to require more author time than most can afford. Things stagnant and the rp dies from inability to solve the puzzles due to varying factors.

3rd idea is most interesting though since I have a preference for fantasy.

Is this thread primarily to discus your ideas or do you like to counsel others on their rp ideas as well?

I do have a story idea in the works for an rp I'm planning on hosting. The plan is it will be a medieval based fantasy. There will be a capital city whose government will work in parallel with a single religious group to govern the land. The nation/continent will be dotted with other cities and towns around the capital.

There will be ancient ruins and deep forests and depths to explore full of old knowledge and treasure. Monsters and magical will be present.

The idea is for the rp'ers to play characters that are part of a mercenary guild in the capital. Beyond performing guild missions and tasks, they will have time to pursue their own interests in the land. While they don't have to be 'good' characters, their tasks will largely revolve around aiding the less fortunate and needy.

The overarching story that makes itself known will consist of an opposing mercenary guild which threatens the very peace and leadership of the nation. The main characters will get to know the opposing force and will play a pivotal role in the conflict between the opposing guilds and the larger idea of order vs. anarchy.

I'm trying to pin down specific elements that I think would add additional draw to the rp. Things that a potential rp'er would read about and think, "that's something new and cool. let's try this out"

Nice that is an awesome rp idea and I would love to get involved both in idea brainstorming and participating. So first I have a small hairball of questions(I promote the Socratic method but that's not the actual intent here o.o)

So first the government is in line with a religious group regardless of what kind of religion it is. My question in this is the Religious group the actual governing body as well similar to the Papacy where the Pope actually ruled a country for awhile (Still does called the Vatican). Or is it more like the Religion is it's own hierarchy separate from the government but that government is completely zealous in following the religious view?

This question leads into the next question on how strict the religious control is on the populace, as well as does the government have it's own military? This would then make the mercenaries have more personal conflict in their life making for more rich character interaction and development.

The ruins might not be something you want to mention but this depends on what kind of rp you are looking to run it for time flow and such. If its a standard open rp then mentioning them would be a decent idea for a setting however you can use them for a plot development tool later.

A thought on how to pull in people is often to put up the idea of a drive. Especially when they are filling a specified role such as being a mercenary band. Why are they mercenaries? Another question to answer is why is there a mercenary band in a religious country, usually religious elements have their own zealots so why need a mercenary band? Maybe it's a way of bringing the local gentiles (A word meaning non-religion followers/ maybe becoming a saved/born again/ whatever to get to their heaven is a very hard and difficult process?) to begin their walk or get closer to a point where they can be saved. Or maybe their government requires everyone to perform a service for the government and the mercenary part is a choice for a certain class of people? Regardless develop the idea of the mercenaries into something full of meat. Make it so yes everyone is going to be a mercenary but the real trick is to make it so everyone 'wants' to be in this mercenary band.

For the opposing band are they going to be there from the get-go or in a later chapter? (reference to chapter based rp's although also applicable for non-chapter based.)

A good draw as well is one that challenges the characters moral standpoint. So rather then having the good vs evil fight, while I'm not saying that's what it is but maybe have some events be going on that aren't entirely correct and some people would follow it and some wouldn't. For example in many religions nowadays there are things the religiously inclined do that some people find inspiring and others find stupid. A good example is way back in the day in order to communicate with God you had to burn a sacrifice, nowadays you just pray which involves certain posture.. Be that a minor example if you look at the fundamentals religions have that all the way up to their larger more active activities. Going on missions to save people across the world. Gathering large amounts of finances from people and even flaunting that wealth in some cases. The examples are endless but it's just an idea. In this case you would want it to be some sort of activity likely a purging of some sort or another. Create a solid debate but promote both sides make both sides look like the good guys.

For the new concept I will say there have been very very few mercenary style rp's. build the mercenary band into a true mercenary band, for good examples look at Band of the Hawk from Berserk. Or the expendables (although that one is a sketchy example) I'm pretty sure you get what I'm hinting at.

Greetings and welcome to this Constructive Corner of the guild. This massive quoting was to bring attention to what I have going here and hopefully get more people interested in one of the ideas developing here for rp's please vote and throw in input. Although note these are ideas at this point not rp's, they will be full developed as time passes. I am merely interested in knowing which one I should create first and go from there. You all, and anyone else you guys have, are invited to join. If I did not quote someone it's simply because I got tired of quoting o.o! No hard feelings for those who did not get quoted. However I am open to everyone joining.

If you guys would like please vote and leave feedback. I have an open door policy if you have any questions about the rp's I can answer them although I will be hesitant on spoilers. Regardless please enjoy and if you do not like being quoted then you have my apologies.

I like the second and third idea the best~ However, me being an amateur rplayer I cannot say I would know exactly how this works considering ive never been in such an intricate rp. (Ive played in simple 1x1, free, and school rps so doing something by an outline is something I've never done before). So, experiencing something like this may be very good practice for me in group rps~ I think your ideas put a great deal of teamwork in them and it looks very appealing to me. Especially since drama, romance, and other emotion-filled action is encouraged.
