The pink doe, one Sorrel by name, was a pleasant conversationalist, and so as they were walking in roughly the same direction, they'd had a rather pleasant early evening. But it had grown dark, and they were stopped for the night. They'd found a rise where the ground was ever-so-slightly less damp and that was good enough. A good meal would be in order- but by Half Truth's standards, a good meal was hard to find. They'd broken away to forage, and while Half Truth pawed though the murky waters she'd found for mollusks, all she could rustle up was a good few crayfish. She had better luck foraging for plants; she'd found several things that weren't just edible, but also delicious- and then a soft blue glow caught her eye. Mushrooms!

These mushrooms, however, were clearly no ordinary fungus. She'd recognized them immediately; she'd eaten them before. The result had been fun, so she collected them and decided to bring them back. She was careful to handle them delicately; now was not the time to eat the funnest fungus. Was her companion the sort who'd be interested in tripping the light fantastic with a relative stranger? Heavens, she hoped so. She dragged the haul back to their camp. Crayfish, duckweed, some sweet, dark berries... and mushrooms.

For once Sorr wished she had her own hunting pack, she hadn't thought to ask Half Truth if she liked meat but felt the need to be sure there was a good bit of variety. Especially as she found the other doe to be pleasant company, she'd hate to be a bad hostess. A bit of an odd thought to her, still unused to the tribe having a settled territory. All her childhood they'd romed, and a good portion of her adult life as well. It felt weird playing hostess outside her own garden. She hadn't even thought to tell Half Truth they'd passed into the Outliers territory around dusk, though they're still a good hike from her gardens.

So caught up in her thoughts she doesn't see the fish until it's right in her face. Lunging she makes a grab for it, and misses. Surfacing she sighs, realizing it's gotten too dark to fish. Wading out of the water she scoops up a parcel wrapped in leaves, at least there's one fish. And plenty of fruit, she thinks as she heads off to find Half Truth.

Noises in the brush got her attention, and Half Truth looked up to see the pink doe returning. "Hey!" she called, beckoning Sorrel over. "I found some grub. Not actual grubs, though. Crayfish, berries, duckweed... and dessert, if you're up for it," she said with a wink. "If you're not, we can toss it, but look how pretty they glow!" she said, waving a hoof over the mushrooms. "Did you find anything good? It's a little dark to really forage well."

Sorr nods, setting the package down and opening it, revealing a fish and assortment of fruits. "The leaves I wrapped them in are tasty too." She adds, giving the mushrooms a look. At Half Truth's words she tries to both smile and wrinkle her nose, making a face that probably looks disgusted. "Not sweet enough for dessert, but good for some fun." She says, her smile winning out.

Half Truth snorted a laugh, sticking her tongue out and wrinkling her nose. "Yeah, they don't taste the greatest- but they're a laugh and a half!" She popped a crayfish into her mouth and crunched it, letting the crustacean's juices run down her throat. "Mmm, crayfish. They go pretty well with the berries, I think- I'm not really an expert or anything, but I do know what I like!" She affected a casual attitude, but deeply she had an electric thrill that Sorrel was down to clown around; the pleasant buzz and dreams the mushrooms would give were always better when shared.
