Finding Food:
Your kin decides to find some food to bring back to the bonfire, to feed those hungry others gathered around the blaze. The advice is to stay close enough that the fire never goes out of their sight, but if you choose to venture farther, that's on you!

To head out on this adventure:
You must search three times to complete the task, either in the same area or different ones!
Pick from the above selections and follow the instructions contained within:

Fruit Grove
Roll 1d4 and match your roll to see what you find!
1 - The trees seem to have gone barren in this particular grove. You find only a solitary apple, dried out. You leave empty handed.
2 - You find a bush heavily laden with blackberries, and manage to break of an arm to carry back for a fruity feast.
3 - The pear trees are in full fruit. You fill your own belly, and then bring back what you can carry.
4 - Pomegranates! They look red and plump, but when you bring them back into the light, it turns out they're infested with worms.

Hunting Grounds
Roll 1d4 and match your roll to see what you find!
1 - You follow some squirrel tracks in soft mud. You don't find the beasts, but you do find their acorns for fall. Yum!
2 - For a moment, this seems to be prime hunting grounds. Then you step into someone else's trap and realize they've already been claimed...
3 - You're fairly certain you hear a lynx's furious growl through the underbrush. Best to steer clear.
4 - Carefully, you set some traps and manage to capture a fat prize. This will be a fine feast!

Down by the Water
Roll 1d4 and match your roll to see what you find!
1 - The water hasn't frozen over yet, and you see fish slithering not too far down. If you're quick, you can catch one!
2 - There are some thick reeds near the waterfront that are sweet and tasty, if a bit stringy. You can bring those back for the feast.
3 - Frogs! You're distracted chasing one that is very brightly colored through the shallow water and forget to search for goodies to bring back.
4 - As you lean in over the water's surface, you see eyes staring back at you. You don't actually see the caiman, but it frightens you enough to run off.

Quiet Clearing
Roll 1d4 and match your roll to see what you find!
1 - You slip on some slick grass and twist an ankle. For the rest of this thread, you'll have a bit of a limp.
2 - The area is heavy with flowers, and you're fairly sure they're edible. They're tasty, anyway! You bring a bundle back with you.
3 - Someone has planted some radishes and gourds in this area. You can either take them, or leave them for whoever put the effort in.
4 - It's dry and quiet and you decide that, instead of scavenging, you'll just take a little nap. You have a brief, disjointed dream.

Continue choosing, rolling, and replying, until you've searched at least 3 times!
Once you have searched 3 times, please post a link to this adventure in the bonfire guild thread to collect 1 raffle ticket.

Yes, the Bonfire was meant for merriment and festivities but the totoma doe was getting antsy just watching the fire and not doing anything about the fire within her. The only way to deal with the heat in her veins was to go out and do something.

And so here she was at the Hunting Grounds, ready and primed to do some hunting! She carefully sniffed for a scent, quietly tracking down her prey until her nostrils flared in anger. Blast it, someone had beaten her to the spot!

The totoma snorted, angry and disappointed in herself. She was too slow and too sloppy. The only reason why she didn't trample all over the other kin's trap was that they weren't there to see her ruin it. There was no fun to be had if no one knew of her sabotage. So off to the quiet clearing she went.

Fortune seemed to favor Brute when she found radishes and other assortment of gourds were available for the taking. That these were intentionally planted rather than grown by chance never occurred to the totoma. Her rationalization was that if another kin intended these plants to serve only them, they ought to have put up some sort of protection.

Brute had simply retraced her steps, passing through the Hunting Grounds once again. Her pride at losing to an unknown kin reared its head at her and demanded redemption. Using some of the radishes she dug up as bait, the totoma set up a few traps of her own and waited.

Her patience was rewarded in the end and the fat prize she caught more than made up for her first failure when she ventured in these parts.

This'll do, she decided and balanced the dug up gourds on her back while she held the caught prey in her mouth.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. The acha buck had spent enough time around other kin, or rather more than enough time that the nagging need to be alone struck him. He'd given those around him an apologetic smile before excusing himself to go look for food.

"Join me if you like~" he called out over his shoulder. He meant it, of course, but he doubted anyone would take him up on his offer. As he left, he was nearly trampled on by a hornless totoma doe, who didn't so much as give him a second glance.

"I say, I say, pardon me!" Lonely Only said but was largely ignored. That stung. A lot. And had taken the spring completely out of his step. He all but trudged up to the quiet clearing and decided to lay his head down for a bit. He was more upset than he thought if his odd dream of him running in circles and suddenly sliding into fire was anything to go by.

Unnerved by his odd dream, when Lonely stood to leave he seemed to have lost his balance. Hooves slipped on wet grass and sent him tip over tail and leaving him with an unfortunate limp.

Well, this was not good. His leg may not have been broken but Lonely was starting to panic at his current condition. The need to be on his own was no longer as persistent as it had been earlier, replaced instead by the need to be with others. He was a liability like this, and what happened to liabilities? They get dealt with by being left behind.

No, no, no, he can't have that. No he can't. Stumbling in the quiet clearing, the acha tried to return to the bonfire, even though he was empty handed. A twinge of pain in his leg had him falling face-first, right onto some flowers. Which he found were actually... quite tasty!

With the flowers as a distraction, the acha slowly began to calm down. He carefully began to gather as many of the blossoms as he could manage. At least now he had something to show for his mishaps.

Hemlock eyed the others and mimicked their enthusiastic zeal for the pursuit of succulents to be had. With much luck, pomp but thankfully lack of ceremony, the acha found a decadently full bush of blackberries. The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice she was reminded. A kin poet named Two Paw or something said that. Hemlock pulled a large broadleaf, helped herself shamelessly to the bush of plenty and had it full with daylight to spare.

Moving with her prize was exceptionally more difficult. Gritting her teeth of the sack, she stepped forward and promptly tripped on a fissure. Hemlock was propelled by gravity and although the juicy berries broke her fall, her front right hoof was stuck and now bent at an unnatural angle. Howling, Hemlock indulged in growing dramatics as the pain became more pronounced. It helped that the berries were very delicious. Between messy sobs and hiccups, she licked the smashed fruit until help in the form of equally eager achas came by and set her leg in a group effort of a cast. Bellyfull, she stammered her thanks and slinked away to bath the sticky crust off.

Hemlock spent some time licking her wounds and feeling sorry for herself before her stomach made its unhappiness known. While delectable and filling for the time, the satiated feeling didn't last long. With great determination, Hemlock found herself once more at the fruit grove but this time, Poppy her sanddog was with her. Tying a knapsack with her teeth onto Poppy, she filled the makeshift bag of fruit. When they finished, they made to bring back the spoils of their fruit plundering when Vetch, the demonhound rushed in and barreled straight into Poppy, sending the berries into the air, and Poppy off a small ledge. Though not so deep for normal kin, for the runt of the litter Poppy, it was a considerable fall, and now Kin and pup shared the same makeshift cast and hobble. It was not a very fortuitous day.

Vetch didn't have foresight, accountability or a lick of sense. The demonhound instead ignored Poppy and Hemlock's hobbling and helped itself the berries bush. Fat, gluttonous and ravaged with sticky juices, Vetch did a small victory dance not unlike the one Hemlock would do after pulling off a successful heist or adventure. Lost in the euphoria of the moment and sugar spike, Vetch did not notice the white acha until it was too late. Soon, the trio were sporting matching casts.

Forlorn and embarrassed, Hemlock asked Lonely Only, "Do you need help? Lovely flowers you have here"

Inching closer, they flip and saunter until the three masses make a tall tower. Plucking the solitary fruit form the branches, they are dismayed to find it is but a husk. Wobbling down further, they try again.

It cannot be said they learned from their lessons. After a disappointing rummage in that area of the swamp, they chanced on some plump berries. And just like before, they left feeling like kings. Bellies swollen, spirits high, even the pain of their set limbs could not damper their spirits until another sickening crack was heard. Seems like Vetch sat down too hard and broke his tailbone or back leg. Or maybe turned it out of joint. Either way, poor thing hobbled and scooted its rear on the mud. Today was not turning out so fruitful afterall.

Alas, third time's the charm and all that jazz. Sweet victory to be had in the form of a pear tree. And what bounty it brought back. Hobbling on broken limbs and crestfallen dreams, they hobbled back with a mighty feast. Peach, plum, pear, they all did well, hale and fair.

Fruit grove action! 1/3

Peach plum pear! Sihouette was on a roll. She chanced upon a babbling brook that nestled up to a pear tree. Heavy with fruit and glistening with all about to burst nectar, the doe knew she hit it gold. Languidly strolling up as if she had all the time in the world, she took one dainty bite and an addict was born. Ravenous, she consumed without a care. Sticky with the fruit, she basked in the warmth of the midafternoon sun and slept for a while. Now that fun was over, it was time to work. Delicately she pulled a broad leaf, loaded it up with fruit and brought back the spoils of her lovely expedition to share.

Fruit grove action 2/3

She really should have washed herself by the brook she found so fascinating. Alas, she was sticky all over and in too much of a hurry to find more fruit that by the time she found the overly ripe blackberry bush, spurs, leaves and branches stuck to her. While this did no phase her past the surface discomfort, she fell prey to gravity and a quick slippery stuck on leaf. Crash, bam, and she was done for; a broken arm her reward for carelessness.
