A while ago, it seems that I started a heated discussion between myself and melonsoda which can be broadly broken down into capitalism vs. socialism respectively.

C'mon guys, there's a difference between exploiting people (aka. scamming) and just plain ol' business sense. If you buy something at a "high" price now, wait until it's value goes up and sell at a "low" price (but still make say a good profit), how is that bad?

Everyone is happy.

if you have lots of money, buy up the supply from the market and then sell them to new users/poor people who want it for a really high price... i think that's just being an a**, especially because this is GAIA money, it's not even real money... do people really need to do that???

For the most part, we kept everything objective but it seemed that some people seemed to be unhappy with even flirting with the idea of an extended discussion.

kenzshinji
Well,....i do hope you can relax yourself here abit...coz this is not a "Serious Replied Thread"...so makes yourself comfortable...
Tis chinese guild jus a hangout guild.....i hope you can have abit changes, so there wouldn't be anyone misunderstood you again..
coz i dun really wants this kind of situation happen again.
Thanks again charles.. wink

Now I understand that some of the younger members may not be able to comment as much as the older members but they are still welcome. Most of us in this guild are in the 16-25 year old age group. And I would assume by the age of 16, we'd all be capable of choosing a position on an issue and debating it.

English and language in general is not an issue, you don't need perfect grammar to state your position and support it. You just need to be able to say what you're thinking. I think we all can do that (We're all smart! Heck! We're all Chinese!), even those in the youngest group below...

My earlier age poll of this guild

How old are you?

Less than or equal to 9 years old 0% [ 0 ]
10 - 12 years old 19% [ 4 ]
13 - 15 years old 23% [ 5 ]
16 - 19 years old 28% [ 6 ]
20 - 22 years old 23% [ 5 ]
23 - 25 years old 4% [ 1 ]
Older than or equal to 26 years old 0% [ 0 ]

Total Votes : 21

So my question is as follows, in this guild, are Discussions welcomed here or not?

Or is just just an exclusively Chinese Chatterbox? sweatdrop

If discussions are welcomed, then what's the big deal about having a serious discussion about issues that affect many people around the globe? There's bound to be conflict but as long as that remains reasonably objective, the conflict is helpful in revealing the good and bad of BOTH sides. Knowledge is power right?

Some of these issues could even pertain exclusively to Chinese people... and this being a Chinese guild, why can't we talk about it? Taiwan, Falun Dafa, Hong Kong, Simplifed vs. Tradition writing, Government policies, Etc. stare

So here's an example: Some Japanese students TODAY do not know about Nanking because of Japanese government cover-up. Is that what we're all promoting here? Ignorance?

So tell me what you think everyone... I'm confused and I want YOUR opinion even if it's not the same as mine.

Don't sit quietly and just ignore this.

Let's get this figured out TOGETHER as a guild (International Chinese UNITY right?), because when we all figure it out, I think it may be time to have some guild rules and general guidelines set up.

And in closing of course I can't forget the Chatterbox BUMP! xd

Maybe your way and kind of attitude not really suitable on these guild to be frankly speak.
Btw the capt. of this guild doesn't seems to provide any rules and regulations or even posting in here all the time, (i wonder izzit really she open up this guild).
Afterall we're just member here, any decision are made by the Capt. anything just let her decide k charles ?
or else, you can just make a poll and let's everyone vote, "whether are serious discussion are allow in this guild"
are you okay with that ?

I'm glad you were able to voice your personal opinion but what in particular is so bad about my attitude and my way?

I didn't know that asking for feedback about having discussions about Chinese issues in a Chinese guild displayed a bad "way" and bad "attitude."

kenzshinji
Btw the capt. of this guild doesn't seems to provide any rules and regulations or even posting in here all the time, (i wonder izzit really she open up this guild).

Even if the Guild Captain is not here there are those who can speak on her behalf... the Guild Moderators for example. Since I haven't been contacted by any of them, I don't think I've done anything wrong or against the Guild.

To answer your question if she really opened up this guild: I think that since the memberlist states that she is the "Guild Captain"... I think the answer is yes and that she did really open up this guild. But that's just what I think... I could be wrong.

kenzshinji
Afterall we're just member here, any decision are made by the Capt. anything just let her decide k charles ?

Well, that's why I posted this... so we could get feedback about the guild. I know I could've PM'd her but why not ask everyone at the same time? We're all members (like you said) so shouldn't we all be allowed to say what we think. That is allowed isn't it?

I thought it was allowed because the Guild Captain ~ HKC Guardian Angel ~, specifically wrote that it was okay to express my opinion (it's on the main page).

"I'm just starting this guild, so please feel free to express your opinion about guild matters like guild rules and policies."
(Source: http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/guilds/index.php?page_mode=4&guild_id=1614 )

I'm sorry kenzshinji, how did you interpret that sentence? I thought she wanted members to bring up guild matters... but maybe I'm wrong again.

kenzshinji
or else, you can just make a poll and let's everyone vote, "whether are serious discussion are allow in this guild"

Well, again, I think it's the Guild Captain's choice in this case and that's why I decided NOT to make a poll. Like I said above, I was providing my feedback about the guild and hoping that you would all express yours.

kenzshinji
are you okay with that ?

Of course I'm okay with all that. Unless I did something wrong... did I do something wrong? Is asking about guild matters in a guild where the guild captain has asked for such things... wrong?

It's okay if you want to say something, there's nothing wrong with that.

In fact, I don't mind if your opinion doesn't agree with mine... that's not what's really important. What's really important is that we don't have to "keep quiet" about things. If something bothers you, like maybe "my attitude" or "my way"... tell me about it and tell me why. smile

Of course I'll try to let you see things from my point of view but in the end you're making the decision about what you choose is the best choice. And the only way to make the best choice is to know both sides of the story.

No need to apologize, I understand what you're saying and I think you are right.

I don't want everyone to think that it is formal style that I'm "forcing" on you. I don't mind if people reply in a casual way... cuz of course its easier n faster to rite da stuff like dis sumtimes 3nodding

I just want to know what you think and why you think it. Actually if you look at my previous postings, I rarely every type "casually," in fact, I actually find it harder to type lik dis than to type "formally." I guess I'm just an oldbie.

I'm sorry that you felt forced to use my formal structure in replying. You don't have to. smile

Formal structure and grammar was not my intention. I just feel more comfortable structuring my position so that I can better state my position (or defend it). And if you want to do the same for your position, use the style that you find the most comfortable. I don't mind and I don't think anyone else minds either. blaugh

To be honest, I'm not even sure how this all started, I guess one of my topics got a few people riled and it seemed like to me that serious topics weren't kosher on this guild. Anyways, I agree with what you're saying and like anyone can vouch for me, I always enjoy a good hot debate. wink

I won't name any names but that's what I thought!

I had thought that we were all mature enough to debate a topic objectively, maybe get riled up but in the end we're still friends. But not everyone is like that so I guess we have to becareful with the topics. Last thing anyone really wants is to be accused of having a bad way and a bad kind of attitude that's not really suitable on this guild. It's funny, when one can't attack the argument, just attack the person. Very mature. Oh well, c'est la vie.

I'm still trying to understand why there's so much opposition to discussion in this guild, if anything I would've thought that a smart group like us would appreciate it more.

guess everyone have differ opinion about talking on certain topic....but i guess....when you open this topic the people here already convert it into a topic for debate rather that voicing whether yes or no...

i see that they just started the debate themselves when all you do is ask whether can or not... xp domokun

You're right. People have different opinions and I think those are good things to have. LoL! Yeah I noticed that too about the debate. It is ironic that the first one to reply to my post was the one who seemed the most against a discussion, yet he started one himself. The irony of it all... razz

Anyways, as much as I'd love to keep this going, it's late here and I should goto bed. Good night and thanks for posting. 3nodding
