[B] Finding a Nest (Dew Drop Sun / Unforgotten / Longstride)

Dew Drop Sun was warm, shining from the inside-out, just as she had before. She hadn’t felt it immediately – it had started slowly, gradually growing, like the sun climbing in the sky each day with gentle warmth until it shone fully above. At first she wasn’t sure, but eventually the feeling had become unmistakable.

As soon as she had been sure that babies were on their way, she’d found Unforgotten. She’d made a point to let him know, and give him the chance to be involved. From there, it was a matter of preparation. She tended to move around in her life, never really having a home base for longer than a couple of months, but with kids it was different. She wanted to have a consistent place, and she wanted to nest.

But she wasn’t sure where she wanted to go. So she’d asked Unforgotten to help her find a comfortable space. They’d wandered for a bit already, but she wasn’t ready to settle – she wanted to find options. So the search continued. Dew Drop Sun was practically prancing despite their already somewhat long trek; her spirits were kept buoyant each time she thought of the warmth she carried. She was so excited to be a mum again…

Unforgotten was a really lucky buck and he knew it. He was now going to be a father! Dew Drop Sun was so warm and happy about it when she told him about it. Unforgotten just couldn't wait for the children.

When he was first notified of this, he was overjoyed he couldn't sleep. He even ranted about it to his pet, Speedy. He couldn't wait to raise his children into fine kimeti and achas. They would be so cute as well. They would be looking at him for directions and guidance. It sure felt good to be important to someone.

His first task was to find her a nice nesting place.They went on and on and on. There just didn't seem to be a perfect place for Dew Drop Sun to make herself a comfortable nest. They continued on looking for a comfortable place, but no success yet.

"Looks like you're looking for something," said a familiar voice -- certainly one that Dew Drop Sun had heard before, but perhaps not in a long time. And certainly in a different shape. Above her, nestled comfortably in the branches of a tree, with one of its back feet dangling casually off of the branch, was a gryphon... but it looked a lot -- an incredible amount -- like Longstride.

"Can I help you with anything?" He likely knew why she'd come, but it was more fun to have her tell him what she was really looking for.

Dew Drop Sun had been quiet for some time, apparently either lost in thought or getting tired. Even she wouldn't have been sure which, had someone asked her, or had she noticed herself and wondered. But it wasn't her that finally broke the silence, it was someone else -- a voice, oddly enough, from above. And a familiar one at that. What was it about that voice that made her nostalgic?

She glanced up to find the origin of the voice, and was not disappointed by what she found. The gryphon above was familiar too, though not in a form she would have expected, and she wondered at him for a moment. It wasn't until he spoke again that she was sure of her suspicion.

"I think, perhaps, you could." She turned and sat below his perch, offering an amused sort of smile in greeting, "Hello, Longstride." There was no question in her tone, she was so sure of the fondness swelling in her. It had been a long time, but she remembered him well, of course. How could she not? Especially given her current situation, he was, in fact, freshly in her mind. What a wonderful coincidence that they should find him now.

She turned to Unforgotten, "I think we've wandered into just the right part of the swamp." She waited for him to join her, then looked back up at her old friend above. "Longstride, this is Unforgotten." She nodded at the buck beside her, "And Unforgotten, this is Longstride. He was, at one time, in a very similar position to you..." Out of no small amount of excitement, and as if by way of explanation, she looked back up at Longstride and couldn't help but wiggle a bit, "I'm going to be a mother again. Isn't that wonderful?"

Alright, Unforgotten had just met someone new and wasn't so sure what he should say. It seemed like Dew Drop Sun was very well aquianted with them. He had asked if he could help them with anything. Of course they could use some help searching for a place to nest. Unforgotten really appreciated all the help they could get.

One thing was nagging at his mind. What did Dew Drop Sun mean by similar position to him? He wasn't quite sure. Maybe he had helped her find a place to nest in the past as well. It continued to nag at his mind until he realized what she meant by that. He then knew they could absolutely trust Longstride.
