Questionable Loiterer

A pair of dark-haired boys with red highlights, long bangs that framed the sides of their face, and spikes in the back walked side by side, each of their hands in their pockets. They appeared identical in their features and clothes, but one was talking animatedly with a certain degree of hostility in his voice while the other simply listened and nodded, occasionally yawning.

When they came up to a department store, the talkative one seemed so absorbed in his one-sided conversation that he almost walked right past it, but the quiet one pulled his hand from his pocket to grab the other's arm and lead him into the store.

The talkative one began to protest angrily and loudly until the quiet one muttered something that caused his companion to glance at the store sign and shut up. No longer talkative, the angry one indignantly yanked his arm out of the other's grip before continuing to walk alongside him. Not a minute later, he was ranting as enthusiastically as before.

"All right, which one looks better?" The brunette asked aloud as she stood in the middle of some clothing racks in the department store, holding up two different scarves against her rather plain outfit of pale blue jeans and her white hoodie, the left sleeve of which hung limply off the end of her short arm. "The pink one," she said as she held up to her neck the first scarf, made of a gauzier material with a splotchy pattern in various shades of pink. After a pause she lowered it and lifted her short arm to hold the second scarf up to her neck; made of a slightly thicker material, it looked more suitable for chillier temperatures than the previous and had a subtle floral pattern that was hard to distinguish from a distance, given it was all the same color - black. "Or the black one?" Seraphine looked to her precious pokemon for an opinion.

Anastasia narrowed large, discerning blue eyes. She waved a paw and Sera swapped scarves again, then did so a second time at a second wave of the Umbreon's paw. After another moment of thought, the dark-type barked a quick, "Eon."

"I thought so too," Sera agreed as she looked down at the black scarf. They were both on sale and while she could easily buy both, she hadn't been the sort of person to buy whatever she felt like buying with little thought of function or finances in a few years now. "I think it'll match better with more of my clothes than the pink one, anyway." So saying, the brunette carefully hung the gauzier pink scarf back up where it belonged and started walking towards a clear aisle so she could find an open cash register, Anya trotting along at her heels. Now that she wasn't so absorbed in her own little world, the rather loud and somewhat obnoxious sounds of people - two people? One person on their cell phone? Hell if she knew or cared - met her ears and made her frown a bit. Why so loud? Out of a sense of nosy curiosity, the brunette paused in her walking so she could look around for a cash register for her purchase - it wasn't her fault if the offending noisy people (person?) happened to be in one of the directions she was looking.

When the identical teens entered the store, the quiet one barely cast the young woman a glance before heading toward the formal wear for men. His double, on the other hand, ceased his chatter when he saw her and began to grin.

"Hey there, sweetheart - looking fine! Are you out shopping all on your lonesome?" he asked, making his way towards her instead.

His companion halted, turned around with an annoyed expression, and promptly started back the way he had come to intercept the other.

The talkative adolescent's mouth was faster, though, and its owner didn't even seem to notice the other's change in direction. He was too focused on the brunette girl before him. "You're not picking outfits to look good for your boyfriend, are you?"

Since Sera was trying to look at them - without actually looking like she was looking at them, of course, since obviously she was searching for the nearest register - she noticed that one of them was indeed addressing her. It had been... quite a while since she'd heard such things aimed at her, and she wasn't exactly used to it anymore. Still, she straightened up a bit to make up for her short stature and placed her hand on her hip, her short arm still holding the scarf against her side. "No, I'm not by myself. I'm with my Umbreon, Anastasia," she said as she gestured to the dark-type with the scarf-laden arm.

Anya offered a bright "umbreon!" in greeting. Unlike her trainer, she enjoyed meeting new people, and these two looked nice enough.

Boyfriend? "Boyfriend?" She voiced her thoughts, her brows immediately knitting together as she frowned. Unlike one of the twins - they were twins, right? They had to be, they looked identical - her pale eyes caught sight of the quieter one turning around to retrieve his brother. "No, I don't have a boyfriend. What about you?" She asked innocently as she shifted her weight to one foot, tilting her head to a side as she fixed her pale green eyes on his, her brown hair brushing against one shoulder. "Are you shopping for clothes or girls?"

The young man who had addressed Sera glanced at her Umbreon when she mentioned Anastasia, regarding the pokemon and her trainer as if trying to work out whether Sera's comment was meant to be a threat or not. The Dark-type's cheerful greeting seemed to put him at ease somewhat, however, and his hesitation disappeared. In fact, his face lit up perhaps a little too enthusiastically when the young woman mentioned not having a boyfriend. Perhaps he took that to mean more than was meant.

"Really?" he asked, as if hardly daring to believe his luck. "No - I mean, I don't have a boyfriend, duh, but I don't have a girlfriend either. Ow!"

By this time, the more quiet of the two had made it to his brother's side to jab him sharply in the ribs with his elbow. "Shopping for clothes," he told Sera, blue eyes meeting her pale green ones, his expression dull. "C'mon, Look. We've got a job to do."

"Wait, you can shop for girls, here?" Look asked, staring at the brunette with his mouth open. "How much are you?"

Leer slapped a palm to his face. "Please ignore this lunatic," he said to Sera, unable to look at her or her pokemon. "I promise he didn't mean what it just sounded like he said. He's too stupid to even know how bad it sounded."

"What? No I'm not!" Look snapped, getting irritable again. "I saw her first, Leer! Back off!"

Duh, he'd said, as if it should've been obvious that he wouldn't have a boyfriend. She never could tell anymore, not since Akira had turned out to have a boyfriend. For the longest time she'd thought he was straight, but that didn't appear to be the case, which was good for him.

Seraphine's pale gaze slid to the calmer of the two brothers when he spoke, and she nodded to show her understanding. She opened her mouth to speak - she hadn't decided quite yet whether to ask 'what sort of clothes are you shopping for' or 'what does clothes shopping have to do with any kind of job' - but her eyebrows shot up and her expression froze for a good few seconds when the chattier of the two spoke up.

Did he really just take her sarcasm seriously?

Did he really just ask that question?

Was he really trying to fight his brother over her?

Yes, to all of the above.

Her mouth closed slowly but her eyebrows remained as high as they could go - if they could go any higher they might float off her face entirely and hit the ceiling - and she stared at the young man whose name must've been Look. She stared at him as if he'd suddenly grown a second, severely deformed head but had yet to notice it.

After a few long, awkward, silent moments - on her part, anyway - Sera finally spoke. "...wow, I'm sorry," she began, her eyebrows finally lowering just a tad, though they still remained quite high from disbelief, "I didn't realize you were born without a sense of sarcasm." Sera's green eyes drifted to Leer (what kind of names were those anyway, a tiny voice in the back of her head said), her expression finally returning to something more normal and not one so incredibly surprised and startled, and she pointed with her good hand to his brother, "Is he always like this?"

Anastasia's expression remained one of complete surprise and disbelief to match her trainer's. Was he joking? He was joking, right?

Leer had ignored Look's angry retort, watching Sera with growing concern as her eyebrows rose and jumping a bit when she spoke again. "He was born without a lot of things," he explained, clearly trying to come off as casual and failing. He scratched the back of his head and glared at his twin who glared right back. "Like tact or common sense or much of a brain. So just in case you get confused, that air-head is Look and I'm Leer. Yeah, we've got weird names, but the parents who gave them to us were weird, too, so don't ask." Leer sighed heavily. "And yeah, he's always like this. But worse when he's drunk."

Look blinked when he realized Sera was talking about him to Leer. He didn't like it much that they seemed to be getting so friendly with each other, but if the brunette was asking about him, maybe she was too intimidated by his confidence and awesomeness and too shy to talk to him directly. He couldn't blame her, really. Leer was more dull than he was anyway, especially during the day, so it made sense that she might have found Look's twin to be more approachable than himself.

"Oh, I see how it is. No need to be shy, lady; I don't bite. Much." Look beamed at her and gave her a wink.

Leer pinched Look's cheek and began to escort him away. "Shut it, Romeo. We don't have time for this." In spite of this, he couldn't help glancing back over his shoulder at Anastasia. "Sorry for the trouble," he told Sera. "Cute Umbreon, though."

"But not as cute as you!" Look tried to say as his cheek was tugged on. He waved, admiring her figure as he was dragged away when his eyes fell on her limp sleeve. "Huh? Leer, check it out! She's missing a hand!"

Leer didn't even turn. "I thought I told you to can it, a*****e," he muttered, jerking his grip on Look's cheek. He'd guessed his twin would have noticed sooner or later which was one reason he had been so eager to leave. It seemed to be too late now, though.

"Huh? But why? It's just like Bennys'," the other spoke, apparently oblivious to any offense he may have caused.

"Yeah, and does Benny like people going around shouting about it?" Leer snarled through gritted teeth. "Arceus...You're hopeless, Look!"
