█ BACKGROUND
Valkyries, battle maiden of the gods. They are said to come down to the realm of mortals to seek out the soul of fallen warriors who are worthy to ascent to Valhalla to fight for the gods. There are numerous records about these female warriors from the times of the great wars. Tales of them coming to claim the souls of warriors but often also of them fighting along armies together with their chosen warriors. Depending from culture to culture the Valkyries are seen differently. But in general they are seen as angels of death and having them fight along with you can be seen as a blessing or a curse. as Valkyries are warriors of god having them on your side can be seen as an blessing by said gods but also an bad omen as is said that when a Valkyrie appear a great warrior has died or is about to die in the battle that was coming.
But these are nothing but legends. In reality the Valkyries are female warriors with a great devotion to the gods. They are more like battle priests who do indeed go to the fields of battle to so they can send the souls of the fallen warriors up to heaven and recruit the souls of the strongest for Valhalla than the angel of death they are portrait to be. And collecting souls is far from the only thing they do. Valkyries also maintain balance in the world by fighting monsters, abominations and other forces that might endanger the gods.
One of these Valkyries is Lyndis. She grew up in a remote village in the caverns of Tørstår. She grew up as the daughter of priests. She lived a life of devotion to the gods and her parents tried to educate her to become a priestess as well but Lyndis’s interests lied somewhere else. She got fascinated by warriors. The strength they had and the power they emitted. She joined the training school for the local warriors. She was aware of the Valkyries as in the past some of them came from the village she was from. But the chances of anyone becoming one were slim as one must be chosen by the heaven to become Valkyrie. But that hadn’t happen in many years. None the less Lyndis trained hard to become the best she could be. Little did she know she was destined to become a Valkyrie. This destiny became hers one day when she was exploring the caves around the village. There was a cave in and Lyndis got trapped beneath it. People thought she had died but by god’s grace she came out unscratched. She also had found an unusual stone. A blue jewel. The soul jewel of the Valkyrie. From that day she was a Valkyrie, an warrior of the gods. She is doing her best to fight in his honour and to become strong so that she might be chosen to fight at his side on the divine battle fields above.
