ONLY STAFF MAY POST HERE FOR NOW, title will change when this is open for General Discussion

As time has gone by, we've realized the enormity of the task we are presented with in trying to track down all the information and images for the older cosplays that we are aware exist.

Honestly, it's going to be a ton of work to try to find all of this information and link it to the current list. On top of that, this effort would mostly benefit older owners who seem for the most part to be inactive - as they have not yet come forward with cosplays they own. We feel like this is time that could be better spent in making new pets for active owners!

Rule Proposal:
A cosplay "twin" is defined as a cosplay from the same canon time period with very few design changes (i.e. within 20% of the original design). For example, Owner 1 has a cosplay of a character from Season 1 of This is a Cool Anime who is not wearing glasses. Owner 2 wishes to get a cosplay of the same character from the same season - but theirs has glasses, and perhaps a small hairstyle change. This would be a twin.

Twins require permission from either (1) the original owner or (2) a staff member. Permission must be posted in a thread made for this purpose. If the original owner is not known, the person wanting the twin must make every possible effort to find and contact them. If that proves to be impossible, staff may choose to give permission. This is not a guarantee.

Another thread will be made for "blanket" permission for twins if any owners wish to post that - for any cosplays listed in this thread, the following process would not be needed.

It will be asked that the number of "twins", and even dupes (cosplays more than 20% different) be kept at a reasonable amount. Colorists still do have the right to refuse a custom and if we've already made several versions of a particular character, we might get tired of making that character and not want to take on another version of them.

The process would go as such:
1. Person A wants to get a cosplay! (we'll call this character Bob)
2. They should first check the cosplay list. Oops, looks like Bob already exists -- if no version is listed, Person A should follow the process for a twin just in case!! If the version that is listed is the one they want (which would be a twin), same thing. If the version they want is not a twin of the one listed nothing further is required, they can try for a different non-twin version of Bob freely
3. Person A should post in the Permissions thread that they are wanting to get a twin of Bob - or possible twin, if the original version is not known, along with any information that exists already about the original Bob cosplay
4. From the date that they post this, they will have a certain time period to try and contact the owner of the original Bob cosplay (Person B). Person B needs to quote Person A's post and give their permission - or not give it - within this time period. If Person B does not wish for a twin to be made, they need to post this!
5. If no owner is listed, they should try to do research and find the owner, making every possible effort to do so.
6. If all else fails and no owner is found, or the owner is known and does not post, Person A should quote their own post with what efforts they took to find/contact the original owner - with proof such as screenshots with date(s) they tried, etc. They should also quote a staff member (perhaps someone assigned to this role, this can be discussed).
7. If the staff determines that all efforts have been made, they then have the ability to give permission for the twin. This is, again, not an automatic approval - staff still has the final say on if a twin is approved or not.

--------------------------------------------------------

This method seems to us, to be more focused on the active owners, rather than trying to do a lot of legwork for owners that may not even be on Gaia anymore. If someone who is active wants to get a twin cosplay, they will need to do a bit of work for it, but if the cosplay is important, the work will be worth it in the end!
