At The Mountains of Madness waded through the shoulder-deep stagnant water of the swamp, searching for her quarry. It was not prey she was hunting for this time, but one of the the Ascended. She hoped that whichever one she was able to locate would, as the others had done before, be able to bless the life growing within her. This was her third clutch and the mystery of birth had long since passed, but she still wanted a blessing for her unborn. After all, it couldn't hurt.

The hounds bayed, the scent of their quarry on the wind, moving as swift shadows through the underbrush. The hunt was on. The Kimeti seemed like easy prey, the mud would hold her down, restrict her movements. The hounds closed in, howls and barks, flowing in and out of view as they circled their find, using the mangrove roots to keep out of the muck. They snarled, showed off wicked fangs, circling, circling, watching her with intelligent eyes.

Madness pulled up short at the sight of the hounds. Well, this was different. Not that she hadn't seen predators in the swamp, but that any would find her to be prey. She moved slowly, stepping out of the water and onto the more solid ground, her tentacle tail swaying from side to side in readiness of needing to lash out at an attacker. She had her clutch to protect and would not be dying today.

One of the wolves tried his luck, darting forward, breaking rank and snapping at her heels, his teeth a bright, dangerous flash.

Seeing the wolf lunge forward, Mads spun to pull her feet away from the creature's jaws and lashed her large, thick tail toward the wolf to knock it away.

The wolf was only just quick enough to avoid the strike but it was forced to make an awkward retreat, falling back with a snarl. The second wolf was circling around, looking for an opening. "I think that's enough," a voice said and where the Eaglehound had been, there was now a stag, flanked by the two spectral hounds. The wolves backed away instantly.

Madness' eyes flicked from one wolf to the other, tail moving behind her and ready to slap at any oncoming attackers. She turned her head at the voice, eyeing the kin before her. Having had encounters with their kind preciously. the doe recognized the Ascended after a few moments. "Certainly the most physical introduction I've had to one of you, but honored all the same." She inclined her head slightly, keeping a somewhat wary eye on the wolves.

"The Swamp called me in the middle of a hunt," the legendary explained evenly. He didn't apologize for nearly making her the prey. One of the wolves whined impatiently and he quelled it with a flickering glance. "Well, let's get this over with," he said, eyeing her up and down. "May they be strong and fierce," a slow, predatory smirk appeared, "and may they be the hunter and not the hunted." Then he was an Eaglehound again and within seconds they were all gone, following the call of the hunt, only their paw-prints left behind in the dirt.
