The newly-promoted grunt had already managed to stand out among their former trainee teammates through the simple means of maintaining their mystery. No one had heard them speak yet, nor had they been seen without their mask because no one had seemed to have been able to catch them without it. Despite sharing the barracks with seven other roommates and utilizing a communal bathroom, they somehow managed to slip by eating, brushing their teeth, showering, and changing clothes when no one was looking. Some claimed they were a ninja while others believed they could only have managed such feats with the aid of a pokemon to assist in maintaining their privacy.

Whatever the case, they seemed to have signed onto Team Rocket with no gender marked and requested the codename of ‘Cheshire’ in their paperwork. This name may have been in reference to the feline mask they constantly wore that resembled the Cheshire Cat from the book, Alice in Wonderland. As quiet as the new Rocket was, though, they were very clear in communicating what they wanted using their actions. Less obvious were the ‘why’s behind those wants. Often, Cheshire’s behaviors seemed erratic and unpredictable. They would seem calm and thoughtful one moment and then making a fuss over something small the next.

If they had trouble getting across what they were trying to say, sometimes they would even be more physical out of frustration, grabbing a person’s arm to forcefully put a bottle into their hand or simply shoving past a person if they wanted them to move aside. Whatever they didn’t say verbally, they spoke volumes with through their gestures, posture, movements, and deeds. Being silent certainly didn’t seem to diminish their sense of presence, and anyone who met them discovered quickly that they weren’t the sort to stand for being ignored.

Cheshire had done well in the trainee obstacle courses and tests, but the promotion to grunt hadn’t felt like much of a promotion to them. From a whole lot of action and training to a whole lot of what seemed to be domestic housework, the new Rocket spent the majority of their first days as a grunt sulking. Their drooping shoulders, hunched back, and less-than-enthusiastic manner of mopping up the hallway contrasted sharply with their ever-grinning mask and they wistfully planned how they would spend their upcoming time off. Perhaps they would be able to obtain themselves some new pokemon...whether from the wild or from previous owners.
