So I've gotten into writing poetry a lot over the past few years, and I just figured I'd post some of my best works so far. Just beware some heavy themes are ahead. The first one I did for a school assignment where I had to use an emotion, rhythm, and rhyme, and my teacher was extremely impressed with it! The third one I wrote for a roleplay character I have named Garrick, and a few songs by Caladan Brood inspired me to write it.
Overwhelmed
Tides do rise
And mountains fall
The sun mutters lies
And the ocean calls
To drown me down
Into abyss
Where I am found
In raging bliss
Shining red
Those bleeding jaws
Beckon me
To boundless halls
Of blackened strife
And sorrowed lakes
Where into night
The darkness takes
A torch to soul
A blizzard to heart
Burn me whole
Whisk me apart
I am drained
I am given
These thoughts so pained
This seething livid
What do I feel
And how do I know
When to kneel
And where to go
Break your bind
Let me be
Ease my mind
Just set me free
Dear, emotion
I plead with you
With blinding notion
Just let me through
To light and hope
To peace and sun
For once I dote
That you are done
Oh, sun which lied
I wish I knew
In my mind
It was always you
Who bestowed good
And positivity
And though you could
Have set me free
I am trapped with you
For eternity
Self(less)
Devote your heart
Your mind
Your life
To those who are not you
Make them smile
And make them laugh
Be polite
Be considerate
You're walking on thin ice
But you learn
How to walk across
Without breaking it
Sacrifice your energy
Sacrifice your soul
To make it better
And let them smile
When they haven't in so long
Sometimes they
Not you
Crack the ice
You fall into cold waters
Blame you for
Selfishness
Which you do not have
Mistaken your
Kindness
For an act of your own
And their words
Drown you
Until you
Suffocate
“You are selfish”
They tell you
But are you really?
You meant well
They do not
Know
In their eyes
You are
In your eyes
In your heart
In your soul
In your mind
Which you gave
To them
You know
You
Are
Selfless
Garrick's Eternity
I stood in the sky
Awaiting a truth
Merciless, unkind
With nothing but roots
Of bloodshed and evil
Beckoning my soul
Which with my will
I renounced its known toll.
“You are evil” he said
“Nothing but shadows
Which bleed sinful red.
“I distinguish the dark
Within your heart.
Though you seized not
This weapon warped and wrought
The shade continues to linger
Between your every finger
To slay and take
For no dignified sake!”
I expected not
That he’d foresee my love.
My choice it is not
To remove the peace above
For whatever right
Do I retain to fight
For a cause of life
Or death or light?
Lost and benign, I cried,
“I have power
Which I desire not.”
And he changed the hour.
“I will sing no taunt
But simply a serenade
Of light to cleanse
The skies and the shade.”
He shifted the clock
And the clouds dispersed.
I fell ‘top a lock
Forged not of the Earth.
“Evil-born you are not,” the shadow spoke
“From the moment you woke
To the day when you fell
You shall never be of hell.
Leave me, petty beast
And allow me to my feast
Of shadows and blood
For this clock strikes one
To begin a new day
Which leaves you forever astray.”
Upon this horizon I knew
Why I only lose:
My soul remains good
For I do not brood.
I am not corrupt
For I never interrupt
Peace and life
Without reason
Without strife.
I remain alone
Denied a home,
While I abide as eternal
Residing in infernal
Hell upon Earth
With no rebirth
To light and hope.
These undesired sins
Grip like an iron rope
Tense against my throat
With which I shall never win.
What Defines a War
What defines a war
Is greater than soldiers who pour
Over boundless rain and mud and thorn.
It’s forged by those whose souls are torn
And beg to rest once more.
My war is forged from dysphoria
Life a labyrinth dystopia.
A question lingers: why am I
A soul so lost in mind?
A bash to the door
It’s helheim’s roar
Which shall fatally recall
That womanly shadow tall.
It looms above this wretched life
As if a sharpened knife
Waiting to drop in strife.
Yet his spear severs its string
And with his strength he wrings
The knife away from heart,
Renders it apart.
Though not once brought
By chosen thought
That weapon dangles
And sings mocking jangles
Of discordant songs
Which my very mind longs
To end, so he rights these every wrongs.
So what defines a war?
It is every being so poor
Waiting for one to defend
Their soul to trifling end.
And I have found one who defends
For he is fearless to rend
These monsters of the very end.
Dysphoria, I shall loathe in
Yet it is not unbeatable with Odin.
Pinocchio (trigger warning abuse)
A toy held by strings
Made with wood and things
Wishes to become a real boy.
For so long he’s been kept
From life at its best
So where can his freedom be?
A wish to the stars
While trapped behind bars
It isn’t enough, you know.
He is just a toy
For this little ploy
It’s useless to fight this fate.
He is taken out
When the time comes about
With no true will of his own.
Forced to play along
To this wretched song
Since he will never be real.
She channels her words
Through his wood filled with worms
But what if he wants to speak?
She puts him away
At the end of the day
By tangling all his strings.
He dangles among
Those dusty old rungs
With not even his voice to hear.
Again and again
This pattern won’t end
To her, he is only a toy.
But deep down inside
He knows he’s alive
Yet how can he ever surpass?
With courage and will
To rid him of ill
He disentangles the strings.
A painful step forth
To regain his worth
At last, he has forever defied.
Cutting the strings
Oh gods, this stings
But now he has been set free.
She returns by the dawn
Just to see him gone
For at last, he’s who he should be.
A real boy, he is
Pinocchio lives
A puppet, he shouldn’t have been
Yet a puppet she treated him.
