He'd spent more days away from the cave than he'd meant to, so he was sure the twins were worried about him, especially as he'd left saying he'd be back soon, and discouraged either of them from following him.

Bringing Keeper to meet the twins, to meet the little ones he and Echo had, that were being raised by them and Cave Yell, it was very important to him that his 'father' meet these children. Oh sure, he had others, and he did see them from time to time, but they were grown, and living their own lives. It was harder to track them down, where as these ones would be easier.

"I need to warn you..." he began. "...there's some swimming we need to do to get into the caves, and it might be a little loud, due to the dragons. But still, you get used to it after a bit." well he had after all, and he had a hard time adjusting to things easily, so he figured Keeper would have an easier time of it in the end.

Keeper rolled the names in his mind: Cave Yell and Echo. Having once had a mate of his own, it was not too difficult to guess the significance of their relationship—yet all throughout the journey he kept his questions regarding the pair silent, accepting only what Flawed chose to reveal. Flawed was no longer a child, but Keeper still felt a father's love for him, and the indulgence that came with it: he'd no wish to prematurely expose the surprise.

Instead, he spoke of other things, of what had passed since the destruction of the tribe, and the doe he had met, of whom he thought he might be fond. He spent the journey assessing the grown buck, too: the comfortable, if not fearless, tread of his steps; the knowledge and awareness he had of his surroundings; the lift of his head and quickening of his gait as they neared their destination. Flawed had not had the opportunity to be schooled by the tribe; even so, he was proud of what the buck had become.

"It sounds well-defended," he said, feeling boyish anticipation. If he were a colt, he'd have thrown himself in the nearest body of water and swum without waiting for direction. "Are we close, then?"
