It was not often, if ever, that Kieran dared to walk around the outer walls of the Sanctum. While others may come here to feel a sense of peace, something more and more common especially due to the recent events, Kieran felt at odds with the place. Superstitions and religion were just old wives' tales for the adventurer, nothing to worry over and definitely nothing powerful enough to rule his life. But he supposed it was worth it to have something to believe in and so Kieran would respect the place simply for that.

Still it was preferable for him to avoid it completely so that the Sanctum could do its own thing while he lived his own life. It was part of the reason he had been a loner for so long, living within a village and especially in a city like Pajore asked for the Sanctum's influence to interfere with his life decisions. And so before his recent life changes the man would have just shrugged the authorities away and taken the risk of 'curses' and ill-fortune on his own. But now that he was engaged to a believer? Well....that changed things. Kieran still didn't believe in any of these things, but for the sake of his future with Taijana the man would come to the Sanctum to at least say he came. Whether or not I actually get some sort of blessing or charm while I'm here to bless our marriage is a different story. Worst case he would pick up a chime or a rock on the way home and make up some story for it. Wasn't that how religion worked in Yael after all? A few simple stories entangled with belief and spirits and gods?

Either way it didn't matter. Kieran simply wished to walk into the outer area of the Sanctum, pick up a charm or whatever it was that would bless his marriage, and get out. It looked like the Yaeli here were also happier if he was quickly gone. How could he blame them? At least no one has pointed to me and called me a demon so far. Because what really made him stand out, besides his travel clothing, was the lack of a glow around his gaze. Months upon months away from home had somehow diluted the glow until finally his last visit to the mainland had made it completely fade away. It was the only reason that even now he would try to avoid the gazes of others as to not allow them to catch onto his changed eyes. Perhaps it seemed rude, but for Kieran it was a necessity as he wished to continue on his way into the sanctum and get out quickly.

The floor was not the most dignified place to sit, and it was potentially dangerous, besides, to he and anyone who may blindly walk about and trip over him. But to Xelannis, it was an equally acceptable vantage point as compared to anywhere higher up. The floor was a comfortable enough location to effectively watch the people that passed in and out of the Sanctum.

He sat with his back to the wall, legs curled to the side, as his gaze trailed after any who grabbed his attention until they inevitably vanished from view. There was a good portion he recognized, some of his brother and sister priests, several patrons who attended regular morning sermons, a handful of merchants from Pajore's streets. But more important than them were the ones he didn't recognize. Xelannis loved new people, so long as they were in very small quantities at a time.

New people meant more pages for his book, and though Xelannis was well aware it was an obsessive habit that he should have outgrown in favor of devoting time to his religious practices, he hadn't. It had simply transitioned into something he tried to keep to himself, as he sat on the floor with his gaze wandering after strange passerby.

Though he couldn't hear nearly any of the conversations that transpired around him, Xel's attention caught on what looked like a small group of three squabbling priests. They had darting eyes, craning necks and what looked like suspiciously erratic hand gestures that they were trying very hard to conceal. If he shifted his position just minutely and leaned so that he could peer around them, he could see the subject of their focus.

A man.

He didn't look especially different than any of the other Yaeli patrolling across marbled floors. The only thing Xelannis could tell from where he sat was that he appeared to have some sense of purpose, though no sense of direction, and no one had helped him locate whatever he was after, yet.

Xelannis settled back to his spot, attention back on the priests. As angled his head up toward their faces once more, a pair of eyes landed on him. In that moment, more distinctly than anything else he'd heard all day, he caught the words 'Send Xelannis.' In unison, all three of them turned to peer at him. It took only a handful of moments for them to beckon him over, point out the man they'd been fussing over, and then send him to greet the stranger.
