Daspien was wandering along to beach, having gone off to play while his mother made dinner. She wasn't keen on him traveling too close to the water, so he stuck to the white sands as he peered out against the waves. His father was gone again, traveling on a trip somewhere distant and away from his family. Daspien always hoped he would see his father come home, be the first to call out that there was a ship and run to greet the Matori man. So far, the little hybrid boy had yet to make his dreams a reality.
As it became a bit too dark to see the ships, Daspien turned his eyes to the shore to scope out creatures. He was interested in the Snapptrotters, but had yet to see one in the wild. Being with his mother most of the day, he rarely saw a trained one either.
Instead of seeing what he desired, he instead saw a young girl close to the rocks.
Uncertain (as he hadn't quite met any others yet), the boy froze and just watched from a short distance away, uncertain on what to do.

What was she doing over there by the rocks? At least he thought it was a she. Her skin was dark for a Matori, but that might mean she was a hybrid like him. He had dark skin too, but that was thanks to his mother. His father said that other hybrids had dark skin, but they were from Oban parents. He was unique, maybe even the first of his type, and hopefully not the last. He heard his parents talk about little siblings, and he felt a bit excited for that.
Focus.
Inching a little closer, he saw the girl yank something out. Was she hunting for fish? The rocks were a bit far from the waters, so maybe she was looking for something a bit different. Curiosity overcoming shyness, he walked closer still before lifting his chin, taking a deep breath, and calling out, "What're you doing?!"
