It wasn’t often that Tyyn found herself somewhere so damn cold. What did she even do to sign up for this trip anyhow? It’s not like she particularly liked it in Zena, and the novelty of the snow had worn off years ago, when she was still young enough to enjoy playing in it. But her family was here for the time being, and… well… eventually she should be supportive, right? She barely knew her two younger siblings, and she hadn’t really done that on purpose, she was just on the go all the time. She had just come back from Jauhar, and when she arrived in Tale, it was her uncle and grandmother who had told her where they had gone. It was only a vacation for them, and she thought, well hell, why not? Right?

Now that her fists were feeling like they were turning blue she was coming more to her senses. She could just go home. She knocked on the front door to her grandparents’ new home and waited for a response. It had already taken her forever wandering around in the cold just to find this stinking place.

Elna was bundled up to her throat in big plushy coats and scarves. They had been there three weeks, and she was loving the brisk air, but her body wasn’t adjusting yet. She was still cold to the bone it felt like. She heard the door knocking and with her head cocked to the side she waddled over and reached up for the knob, turning it with her mitten covered hand.

The house was heated by a fire, but she still didn’t feel quite warm enough. It didn’t help that it was winter in Zena, which was even worse than summer in Zena. The door swung open slowly and she poked her head outside, her eyes squinting at who she saw before standing to the side. ”Tyyn.” She answered. She wished she had more feelings for her sister, and at one point she did, but she was old enough now to know that she didn’t really know Tyyn. She was mostly just stories her parents told her about for what not to do.

Tyyn was a little… well… pissed at the response she had received. The annoyance showed on her face. What kind of welcoming is that for a big sister to receive? ‘Tynn’. Without even a smile on her grumpy little face. She pursed her lips and nudged the door open further before stomping in, clearing the snow off of her boots. She tried to blow it off and bounce back, cut her some slack. ”Hey kiddo. Where’s everyone else?” She proceeded to plop down onto the floor and wrestle her boots off of her feet, throwing them off to the side.

Elna couldn’t think of anything to do besides to step back and out of the way of the wrecking ball that Tyyn was turning into. She stomped her way in, threw herself down, and then wrestled with her boots. There was snow tracked into the house, her boots were already leaking; she was a mess.

”They’re out. The grandparents are here, but they’re taking a nap.” She offered, not providing much more information than that. Her socked feet padded across the room and away from Tyyn, plopping herself on the couch closest to the fire and picked up her book she was reading.

”Well aren’t you even a little happy to see me? I came all the way up here to hang out with your ungrateful butt.” She commented. She stood up from her spot on the floor and wiped the remainder of the snow off of herself before walking over to where Elna was sitting. She plopped herself onto the couch closest to where Elna was and plucked the book right out of her hands.

She flipped through the pages, skimming over the content before giving her sister a sideways look. ”What’re you doing in here cooped up reading?” She held the book sideways, cocking her head to the side. ”This is some pretty intense stuff for a kid. Shouldn’t you be playing in the snow, making snow angels and throwing stuff or something?”

Elna could feel her fingers twitch for the book as her sister snatched it out of her hand and started to flip through it. It wasn’t like she was on a certain page or anything, she thought to herself sarcastically as Tyyn totally messed up where she was and was even… crinkling the pages, she noticed with a flinch. How could she be so careless with other people’s things? Tyyn questioned what Elna was doing and she could feel her face becoming more pursed as Tyyn continued to speak.

”I was trying to warm up next to the fire.” She reached out for her book but Tyyn’s arm were too long for her. ”You don’t even look like you like snow, why should I be playing in it?” she questioned back.

Tyyn watched her little sister reach out for the book, her tiny little hands not even coming close to where she was. She dangled it a little farther away before she shrugged her shoulders and shut the thing closed, handing it back to Tyyn. ”Well you look warm enough.” The little girl was bundled up to her throat in about fifteen layers of clothes, she should be plenty toasty by now at least.

”Why don’t we go out and play together?” She offered, already lifting herself out of her seat on the couch and over to the front door, lacing back up her boots.

Elna watched as Tyyn carelessly handled her book some more before shutting it and nearly throwing the thing back to her. She felt the annoyed look come back to her face, and she felt her brow furrow. Her older sister was turning out to be more of a pain than she expected, but at the same time, her parents stories should have told her more than enough. She gingerly brushed the cover of her book, trying to lay the pages flat on the inside again, and placed it down on the couch. ”Fine, let’s go outside.” She answered back.

She didn’t want to not like her sister, and if it was going to keep her away from Elna’s books then she would sure give hanging out with her a try. She rubbed her hands together, already anticipating the cold of the outside world before waddling over to where Tyyn was. ”Have you even been out to the snow before?” she asked Tyyn, a little more than disbelieving that she would have been out here before.

Tyyn waited for her littler sister to waddle her little butt to the door. She felt like if Elna were to fall over outside she might not have been able to get back up with how padded she was.

But it was the question that came out of Elna’s mouth that had Tyyn scoffing aloud. ”With all of my years over you, do you really think I wouldn’t have been outside before?” She shot back, her ego prickling. ”Way before you were even a thought I was up here throwing snowballs and goofing around with all sorts of strangers.” Tyyn thought back to her childhood and the snowball fight where what seemed like all of Zena and Sauti, and even those who didn’t belong were acting a fool and behaving like they were her age. ”Don’t think you’re so special just because I didn’t come with you guys this time.”

Elna gave Tyyn a look like she still thought Tyyn was just talking a big game, but she shrugged her shoulders anyways and went along with it. ”Well alright then, you should be great at throwing snowballs then, right?” She answered, her hand already on the door and tugging it open.

She could feel the sharp chill biting at her face, and the white of the snow was nearly blinding, but there was a nice feeling to it. Something clean, simple, she couldn’t really describe it. But she gave the porch steps a little hop and crunched the snow with her warm boots. Bending over, she dipped her hand in the snow and scooped up enough for a kid sized snowball.

Tyyn watched Elna’s little bob bounce as she hopped down into the snow on the ground and she felt a smile coming to her face. Well, whether she was a brat or not, she was cute. Tyyn joined her, running through the snow and passing little Elna on the way before scooping up her own pile of snow and whipping around to toss it at Elna. She managed the shot before Elna could even finish getting her snow packed and the whole thing just slumped off of her hair and into her hood. Tyyn grinned devilishly and stuck her hands on her hips. ”You gonna do something or what?” She goaded.
