As Merek was finishing the paperwork in his office, his ears heard what sounded like an explosion. If this were at night, he might have ignored it thinking that it was the festival's fireworks display. However, it is not nighttime. A fireworks display in the day would be wasteful. He got up from his desk and turned to face the window. The billowing of black smoke definitely made it clear that it was not a fireworks display. This explosion had to have been caused by carefully planted explosives. Something terrifying is happening out there, and he suspects it will only get worse. When he looked a little to the left, he saw his falcon Atem flying towards the window. He opened the window to let him in and he spoke to his feathery companion briefly. It is clear that he is needed elsewhere, specifically the infirmary. If he is to suspect the worst, then he will have to make sure that he and nurse Larina are ready for it. With his friend on his shoulder, he closed the window to his office and walked out of his office, making his way to the infirmary.
