Name: Veikel
Age: 25
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual (but ridiculously awkward)

Craft: Healer; Herbologist
Rank: Journeyman
Location: Western Weyr

Physical Description: Veikel is a ridiculously tall beanpole who needs a haircut, needs to shave, and probably not wear the same clothes more than twice in a sevenday. He often smells of fresh flowers or herbs and, despite being scraggly, he has a nice smile.

His hair and eyes are dark like that of his family, though not nearly as curly. Veikel's hair reaches his hips and is often worn in a messy bun or a braid; he also has three small moles on his face that seem to line up just right.

Sometimes, if he's in an exceptionally good mood, he may have flowers tucked into his hair. Out of sight, of course, but they're there.

Personality: The proud, oldest child of a Masterhealer and a successful trader, Veikel is an exceptionally hard worker who always strives to provide and always offers only the best results each time. He demands nothing less than perfection from himself and will push his body and mind to the limits in order to keep it that way. He has no problems ripping apart his own work if it could be done better, in fact he knows it could be done better, and it's not uncommon for the man to complete something three or more times just so it hits his specific level of acceptable - never mind that it was more than adequate the first time.

If Veikel isn't stopped or watched he'll work himself into the ground, as he's done many times before, because there's so much riding on his shoulders (or so he believes). His mother is a Masterhealer and the pride he has in her can't be measured; his father is a successful trader who has traveled much of Pern and aided far more people than Veikel could even imagine. Not to mention, his younger sister is an apprentice in her own right, along with being a wonderful bluerider. Compared to all of them Veikel considers himself inferior, not that he'd ever dare mention it to either woman or his father. It's easy enough to read on his face though, as he's overly expressive when stressed, and when is he never not stressed to try and make up for his shortcomings? Veikel is well aware it is inhumanly possible to be perfect but that doesn't mean he has to stop striving for it, right? It doesn't matter if he works to the point he collapses a few times, or coughs up blood. He has to make sure everything is perfect or else he can't hold his head up high. He has to make sure people don't see the bigger issue.

And just what is that bigger issue? It's a doozy, that's what. Unfortunately for someone who has lived their whole life with the desire to be a healer, Veikel is weak to blood. While not entirely hemaphobic to the point of fainting or other major problems, it does cause him to become quite queasy and sweaty. Small amounts of blood are not an issue, such as a cut or scrape or even blood from food, but massive amounts - such as spurting injuries - will cause small hiccups; he can handle dried blood without difficulty. More often than not he is able to muscle through the encounter with sheer willpower alone, though he will need time afterward to recover before attempting to go back out and work. His weakness to blood is something of an open secret among the healers of Western and even though he tries hard to keep himself steady, Veikel is actually fairly ashamed of himself.

Veikel is also nothing short of a mother wherry, constantly fussing over and about his loved ones, friends, co-workers, patients and well, everyone. His affections and attentions stop at nothing short of being smothering and it wouldn't be surprising if he actually joked around or was serious in calling someone his child and talking about their childhood as though he was there to witness them growing. His overbearing nature stems from a true love of others and an overabundance of concern and compassion over their well being. Whether this comes from him being a healer or is just his general nature is unknown, but Veikel cares deeply. It's not a problem or any real issue for him to go out of his way to help someone out, or do something nice for them. He really, truly cares in his own way and doesn't mind showing it through small or large gestures. He just....gets carried away, okay?

Thankfully he's got a silver-tongue to help him out when he rubs someone the wrong way, or goes too far with what he thought was right. He's hardly pushy when the chips are high, but he's also not the type to panic, and he uses his composed manner and eloquent words to help when needed. It's safe to assume his beside manner is far kinder than that of his mother, likely the influence of his father. It's not as though Veikel is entirely unflappable as he does have his moments of panic (usually related to him worrying over someone in his smothering manner), but it takes quite a bit to offend him or even ruffle his feathers. He prefers to be able to talk himself out of situations rather than use his fists, and he certainly doesn't mind talking to help calm people's doubts and fears. In fact he probably talks a bit too much, but his words are almost always carefully chosen and never meant in spite.

Positive Trait List Compassionate, meticulous, composed, eloquent
Negative Trait List Perfectionist, workaholic, weak to blood, overbearing

History: Born as the oldest child to a healer and a traveling trader, Veikel was lucky enough to be a well-traveled individual. His early turns were spent split between being with his mother, whom he adored and happily observed during her healing lessons, and his father, whom he also adored and eagerly learned how to talk and trade from. This early education from both parents lead to him being rather happy, rather worldly, and perhaps a tiny bit precocious. Thankfully he had an outlet in the form of his younger sister and even later the youngest of his siblings.

Apart from traveling with his parents his early childhood was fairly uneventful, though he hovered around his younger siblings like an entire fair of firelizards, always at their beck and call. It was during this time his interest in herbs and other plants started to develop but it was also during this time that his...aversion to blood appeared. Horrified over the fact he couldn't be a "proper" healer due to being squeamish, he resigned himself to not being able to be either of his parents professions. (Being a trader meant leaving his siblings how could he?! They would get cold or sick or - ). Properly reassured (again) by his parents (again) that there were many other ways of being a healer (seriously), Veikel continued to travel more with his mother and properly entered apprenticeship.

He walked the tables to Journeyman fairly uneventfully, having pressed all his time and knowledge into herbs and poultices rather than human bodies, and when his mother decided to come to Western, he followed.

Other: Veikel absolutely adores growing plants/flowers and probably has a small, well tended garden. He also smells strongly of flowers or herbs, depending on the day.

HE ALSO DOES NOT HAVE A SISTER COMPLEX OKAY!!! OR A SIBLING ONE FOR THAT MATTER!!! (do...don't judge him)

So... this is a bit of an issue. Even as a standidate, if he were to become a dragonrider he'd:

1) Probably have a bloody dragonet.
2) Chop up lots of bloody meat.
3) Fight Thread and face blood literally throughout his career.
4) Encounter blood via random injuries that come with the territory.
5) Witness his dragon blooding his/her kill.
6) Witness his dragon killing various animals.

It currently seems like a really intense thing - to the point where he'll throw up, have to be excused, etc.

And hopefully i fixed that up! I've bolded the bits I've changed/fixed (such as taking away the vomiting/needing to be excused) and added in that he's okay with blood in small/reasonable amounts, it's when it's an overwhelming amount (like a majorly gushing wound) that he starts to feel uneasy.

If I need to change anything more, please let me know! Happy to do so!
