"I'll make a man out of you."

This Class Teaches:
Hunting/Outdoor Survival

Classroom:
While class can really be anywhere in the forest, the gathering place is a medium-sized building on the outskirts of the woods on Princeton grounds.

The Teacher:
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Name:
Virgil Cambric
Age:
Appears to be in his early thirties.
Race:
Lycanthrope
Eye Color:
Green with a bit of pale gold mixed in.
Hair Color:
Black
Basic Personality:
Stoic. Sarcastic. Loyal. Cynical. Introverted. Grouchy. Temperamental.
Random Notes:
Virgil very much has an “alpha male” persona and doesn’t like it when he’s challenged. While he generally only speaks if he has something to say, he doesn’t mind being around others, and he not afraid of speaking his mind. Friends and strangers both will find that he is quite hard-headed, especially when it comes to making him do something he doesn’t want to do.

Has a “love them & leave them” mentality when it comes to romance, though (he would never admit it) he does crave the companionship that he’s always been denied by his family. So far, he’s avoided any sort of serious relationship with someone because he’s afraid of being abandoned by them one day. But if someone was to truly capture his heart, they will find that couldn’t ask for a more devoted lover.

Why had he taken this job? Well, because he needed the money if he was being honest with himself. And teaching was safer than other occupations he'd held in the past. In theory. He was pretty convinced that teenagers could be pretty vicious even though his experience with them was little to none.

The knowledge wasn't much, either, considering his lack of any teachery type protocol and lack of students. No one had yet to venture out to his "classroom" and it hardly bothered the big brute. It had only been officially on the school's roster for a couple of days now, after all, and Virgil was in no hurry to get the ball rolling. He was still trying to wrap his head around this whole thing. He was a goddamn teacher now.

A handful of picnic tables were scattered around the area the territorial male considered to be his classroom. Who said that class had to be indoors only? Being out in nature was far better and, thankfully, the weather was quite pleasant. The leaves of trees of the nearby forest rustled in the breeze. Combined with the cheerful birdsong and warmth of the sun, it was the perfect scenario to take a nap, which was what he was trying to do currently.

His bulk was laid out on the top of the table he'd deemed his own that was tucked underneath the branches of a tree. An arm was draped over his eyes to further block out the light while the other idly rested on his stomach. Legs clad in a pair of worn out jeans were bent with booted feet planted on the wooden surface beneath him. His face scrunched up as he finished counted his second hundredth sheep. Apparently, his brain hadn't gotten the memo that this was perfect nap conditions. Bothersome.

Marcel opened up his flask and took a quick swig of whiskey that he'd taken with him to work. He was certain when he first arrived that he'd need it to deal with mouthy teens but that didn't seem to be the case at all, in fact it seemed like either nobody was interested in learning combat from a war vet, maybe they were scared? A good choice, they should be. None the less he knew that nobody was going to join him in the gym where his "class" was supposed to be. He'd only been working here for a week and it seemed like he was being paid to meander around the school and d**k around, something he had no issue with. With nobody on his roster and being left to his own devices by the one who ran this school he was relatively pleased so far with his new job. Of course having so much freedom came with one major drawback, he was bored. He'd already explored every inch of the school itself, he had no interest in dealing with mouthy teens, and it seemed like all the other faculty were actually busy with classes.

So now here he was wandering around outside trying desperately to entertain himself with something or another. Marcel put the flask back into his hoodies pocket and continued his wandering, it had been his first sip of the day and the Hispanic man felt like he'd need more if something didn't happen to alleviate his boredom soon. Soon enough his eyes caught sight of a larger man laying on one of many picnic tables under a tree "The hell?" he mumbled to himself before sticking his hands in his pockets and wandered over to the other man. As he got closer he saw the man was indeed much bigger than him in terms of muscle mass and his mind began to think of different scenarios in which he'd fight the man. Sheer muscle alone he'd lose, not to say that he lacked muscles but this guy clearly had him beat. However Marcel did have training and technique on his side and hell maybe if he fought dirty and went for the eyes he could....

Marcel shook his head, he was no longer in war. The man was probably either faculty with nothing to do like him or some homeless bum who snuck onto school grounds. Either way the Hispanic man lifted his foot up and gave the side of the table a solid kick to get the others attention "Hey, you work here or are ya homeless? If the latter beat it, if the former then sorry for bugging you" he spoke in a somewhat unapologetic tone and he gauged the mans reaction and if he'd need to refer back to his previous thoughts of a fight.

The sound of approaching footsteps had him losing count of all those mental sheep. His mind reeled as he tried to remember which one he'd been on, tried to get everything back on track. Wait, footsteps? Virgil concentrated on the noise. It was definitely someone walking around and they were getting closer.

A soft groan left him. Was it finally a student after all this time? Damn. He waited for the excitement that normally came with starting something new to fill him. It didn't. Double damn. It would probably be hard to keep the kiddies interested in this if he couldn't find the enthusiasm. The male had loads of it for the subject, but for teaching? Not so much. It would come if he got off of his lazy a** and tried.

Continuing to lay there was a much better option than sitting up and greeting the advancing stranger. Perhaps if he pretended to be asleep like he actually wanted to be then they'd leave. Hopefully, the temptation of skipping class would be too great for his unwanted visitor. Virgil did his best to relax his breathing as if he was actually sleeping, even going as far as to give a rather convincing snore.

The footsteps stopped and the table slightly jolted underneath him. Hadn't this jerk ever heard of letting sleeping dogs lie? Still, the stubborn male didn't move despite the annoyance boiling inside of him. His voice got his attention better than kicking the table had, his lips pulling down into a slight frown as he listened. That voice was far more mature than that a bratty teen could ever hope to have at such an age. It was out of instinct that had the raven-haired man moving out of that vulnerable position, his legs dropping to hang off the edge as he sat up.

Verdant gaze soon found their target and did their own assessing, breaking down if this man was a threat or not. He didn't possess the muscles he himself did, but in no way did Virgil think that meant he would have an advantage. He'd bet good money that the b*****d was quick on his feet. A deep breath was drawn in through his nose as he tried to catch his scent to determine what the male could possibly be. He looked human enough, but that didn't mean s**t. The faint trace of whiskey, however, soon distracted him. 'Damn...I could use ah drink.' Not that he would ask. It would be awkward considering he wasn't openly holding a bottle or flash.

Sorry? If the man was sorry then he'd argue that he wouldn't have bothered him in the first place. "I work 'ere." With a baritone drawl, he finally answered. "Or can't y'read an' use common sense?" An index finger pointed toward a metal building not too far from their location where a sign with 'Outdoor Survival' painted in black hung on its wide door. Reaching behind him, Virgil grabbed the red button up he'd been using as a pillow and slipped it back on over the gray 'wifebeater' he wore. He started to roll the long sleeves up to his elbows as he kept watch on him. "But I could ask th' same thing." The other certainly looked like a drifter in that hoodie.

Marcel stood there as the other man slowly pulled himself up from the table, clearly annoyed by his intrusion. Marcel quirked an eyebrow at the other man when he stated that he worked here but Marcel was a bit surprised that he'd missed the big sign, he really was deep inside his own head "Oh, bueno, mira eso" he spoke in Spanish more so to himself than to the other guy. He then shrugged his shoulders when the other gave him a snarky answer back, this caused Marcel to grin a small bit "I'm the Combat Instructor at this school, name's Marcel" he explained his own position to the other guy.

He then folded his arms in front of his chest before he locked gazes with the larger man who was watching him like a hawk "What should I call you Big Guy? Since you're so obviously a teacher here, what with sleeping outside and what not" Marcel stated with a slightly sarcastic yet almost challenging tone in his voice. If he were being honest with himself he would normally have just left the guy alone by now but his boredom was great and this guy didn't strike him as the type to back down from anything is appearances said anything.

(Translation:
Oh, well would you look at that)

His head tilted to the side when the other spoke in Spanish. It wasn't a language he understood- not that there was many of those to begin with. The information he offered next was was far more important than worrying over if he'd just been cursed in another language. "Interestin'." Truly, it was, as evident as his sincere tone. It was about time someone started teaching things that could be used out there in the real world.

His own eyes narrowed slightly when the Hispanic locked eyes with him. Virgil held it as he did his best to rein in that urge to knock the guy on his a**. Remembering that not everyone read so much into body language would be helpful. Marcel's tone wasn't helping him any, already feeling challenged enough with the way the man had boldly met his eyes. "Do y'see any brats around? Not much else to do." A smirk graced his rugged features. He got off of the table, standing up to his full height of six-two. "Th' name's Virgil." A calloused hand was offered out to him. "'Tis nice t'meet ya."

Marcel nodded his head when the man pointed out that there was not much else to do. That was something he definitely understood considering the fact that he was in the exact same boat as him "Fair point I suppose, I don't exactly have a popular class either" he explained before the man introduced himself while standing at full height, causing Marcel to have to crane his neck a bit to maintain the eye contact . Being only five-ten Marcel was blatantly shorter than Virgil but that didn't stop him from squaring his shoulders slightly to try and look at least somewhat bigger than he actually was "Great to meet you too Virgil." Marcel stated with a slight smirk before reaching out and giving the other an extra firm handshake for reasons.

The man would then release his hand and smirked a bit at the metal building off to the side "Outdoor survival huh? So what's it that you teach? How to go camping? Pitching a tent, starting a campfire....proper technique for roasting marshmallows?" he questioned in a snarky tone of voice, his smirk becoming an amused grin at his comments.

Hearing Marcel state his class wasn't popular with the teens made it seemed as if the teens weren't into being bullied around. Maybe these students were smarter than Virgil gave them credit for. His smirk became slightly predatory as he caught him squaring his shoulders. It was...cute, this guy trying to make himself look bigger than he actually was. His own grasp was firm when their palms met for the shake, taking note of the subtle strength of the other's hand.

Once his hand was released, he reached into a back pocket of his pants and withdrew a small metal case and an old brass Zippo lighter. Opening the case, one of the hand-rolled cigarettes inside was removed and placed between his lips. "Wouldn't be survivin' if I did it like that," he murmured around the end, speaking with one side of his mouth. The case was put away again before he flipped open lighter and struck the flint wheel with his thumb, cupping his free hand around the flame as he dipped his head down to light the cigarette. Its lid was soon closed and the item put away again. "Mmmrr, let's see..." Virgil took a long and much-needed drag as he thought. He plucked it from his lips as he exhaled a cloud of smoke through his nose. "Trackin' an' trappin' prey, what plants are safe t'eat, how t'make or find shelter..." His voice trailed off as his shoulders lifted and fell in a shrug. "An' yeah, how t'make ah fire fer roastin' th' perfect goddamn marshmallow." He chuckled softly. "s**t like that." Another drag was taken as he continued to keep a close watch over Marcel. "So, combat instructor...Isn't that like glorified boot camp or somethin'?"

Marcel caught that smirk of Virgil's, he must have thought what he had done was funny! None the less Marcel kept his cool and and actually pleased when he saw the other guy pull out his own cigarette and lighter. At least he knew the guy wouldn't make such a fuss about that kind of thing. So as he was explaining his class he reached into his hoodies pocket and pulled out his flask "Tracking and trapping? Heh like most kids these days would have the guts to kill an animal themselves!" he smirked before chucking with Virgil and taking the lid off his flask and taking another swig of his whiskey, all while keeping his own watch on the rugged man.

He then smirked a bit more when Virgil asked about his own class and what it was "That's one way to put it" Marcel started before taking another sip "I had a ton of plans on what to teach these brats and maybe toughing them up a bit" he then shrugged his shoulders "But apparently learning proper technique for breaking an opponents neck and cracking their jaw with the butt of your hand wasn't school appropriate" he explained, performing little air quotes with his fingers when he said 'School appropriate' "So I'm forced to just teach them self defense and proper grappling, maybe some more later down the line..." Marcel concluded his own explanation before holding out his flask for the other to take a sip of, it seemed only polite.

When it came to other people's business, Virgil only fussed when said business interfered with his own. Not being one to follow or enforce rules that weren't his own was just another reason he didn't make a peep when Marcel brought out his flask. A brow lifted a bit as he watched. "Fair point. Guess I'll take skinnin' an' meat preparation off th' list." He'd never thought he'd live long enough to see the world to be in the state it was currently in. He supposed it could be worse.

Ashes were flicked to the ground as another chuckle escaped from him. "Eh, can't say I blame 'em. I imagine it'd be kinda hard for 'em t'stay open if ah kid got 'is neck broken." Putting the death stick back between his lips, his hand moved to idly scratch at an inch along his jaw. His head slightly canted to the side while Marcel explained how his plans for his class had changed. He hadn't been as truthful when he'd explained to the headmaster what sort of things he would be teaching the students. For all their boss knew, his class was really no different than a Boy Scouts group. "Still, all good things for 'em t'learn though."

Like feeding a stray animal, it might not be such a great idea to be offering him booze though Virgil swore to himself he wouldn't go pestering him for an alcoholic handout if they ever crossed paths again. "Thanks." Genuine appreciation colored his tone while he took the flask. His cigarette was braced between a middle and index finger again as he raised it to his lips and knocked back a shots worth of the whiskey. An old hand at alcoholism, Virgil didn't wince as he swallowed the liquid. Resting his rump back against the end of the picnic table, he handed it back to Marcel. "Got any experience with th' whole fightin' thing?"

Marcel chuckled a small bit at the mention of how the teens would react to killing and smirked a bit when he brought up that it would be hard to keep a school open if a kids neck got broken "I guess so, can't have kids killing each other left and right over petty teen things!" he grinned before nodding his head a bit when Virgil mentioned that it was all still good stuff to teach them "I'l say, I've seen teens fight before and frankly, it's sad" he started to scratch his own thick scruff "Most of them couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag!" he grinned before wiping his brow slightly before sighing and taking his hoodie off, revealing his dull grey tank top underneath as well as the steel dog tags he wore around his neck "And here I was thinking I was going to spend all day in an air conditioned building!" he joked a bit before taking back his flask with a nod.

However his grin faded and the mask he wore cracked a bit when Virgil asked if he had any experience fighting. Marcel's gaze finally broke the steady eye contact that he was maintaining as his eyes lingered down to the grass and a harsh frown crossed his face "Yeah...I do, way too much in fact...." he stated solemnly for a moment before quickly putting the mask back into place and putting on a grin "Your classic war vet stands before you, fifteen years of service and many tours of duty!" he explained before taking a much heavier swig of whiskey and sighing in relief even though the alcohol didn't do much to him, he'd grown a bit of a higher tolerance than most "Uh..how about you? You just know a lot about survival or do you actually like live in a sticks and leaves hut?" Marcel questioned, not so subtly trying to shift the conversation away from himself.

There was a hint of pearly white with a set of slightly elongated canines as Virgil flashed a grin. "I can only imagine. I try t'avoid 'em for th' most part." As he did most people when he could. It was rare that the male had the energy to socialize these days. Their conversation, though, wasn't something he disliked. Talking to someone that didn't instantly give the impression of thinking they were better than him was a nice change. For the first time in a while, his gaze dropped away from Marcel's face to briefly glance at his dog tags after he'd removed his hoodie. He didn't think it was that hot outside but, then again, he wasn't the one that'd worn something more appropreate for autumn weather.

It would be a lie to say that he didn't notice how Marcel's expression cracked when that subject was breached. His weight shifted a bit as the other man glanced down and frowned. He had worried that the question might upset him, but his curiosity had won over any concern for his wellbeing. But it was too late to take it back, anyway. He gave him a tired smile. "Brave man." A hand raised in a salute, holding the right level and tilt before it dropped back down. Virgil was no stranger to the violence of war or how it could haunt every moment afterward. He wouldn't pry any further, unwilling to find out just how much of a threat the former soldier could be if he pushed too far.

He pinched the end of the cigarette to put it out between his fingers before he slipped the rest into a pocket. "Aye, I do." He dipped his head in a nod. "Ah lot 'bout survival, that is. Experience too." The miracle of the modern day world had not been a thing when Virgil had been born into the world. He should've picked history as his subject. "Livin' outta my truck though. More comfortable than ah leaf hut." He rubbed at the back of his neck. "Could go inside, y'know...if th' heat's gettin' t'ya." His head inclined toward the building.

Marcel breathed a silent sigh of relief when Virgil dropped the subject and moved on from the subject. He however was somewhat surprised when the other man raised his hand in a salute which caused him to give a slightly more genuine grin "I appreciate that Virgil" he said "But I'm not brave, just lucky" Marcel silently thought to himself before listening about what it was Virgil knew about the whole survival thing. However he snorted a bit when the other man admitted to living out of his truck "Oooo that's gotta suck, how do you not have your own place? To expensive? Or do you just not give a ********> he asked but not before shaking his head and moving himself to sit on the table, putting his hoodie in the grass "I'm fine, besides I don't feel like dealing with some b***h telling us we can't drink or whatever!" Marcel explained before waiting to see what he'd say to the previous question.

He hummed softly in reply even though it was hard to judge if his statement about appreciation was true or not. That grin had changed somewhat, but it was still hard to judge with that efficient mask in place- not that it really mattered. Virgil wholehearted believed in letting sleeping dogs lie. Both literally and figuratively. His head turned the slightest bit in order to keep an eye on Marcel when he moved to sit down. While Virgil was pretty certain the veteran wasn't out to get him, it wasn't easy for him to for him to drop the old habit of keeping his guard up while someone was around him. Once more, he grew quiet as he debated on how he should answer his newest question. Marcel's next statement brought a faint bark of laughter from him, however. "Shouldn't let 'em push ya around."

Several joints popped as he raised his arms above his head and gave a lazy stretch once he'd straightened his position. "Both of those, I guess. Seems kinda dumb t'pay out th' a** for ah place that's hardly any bigger than my truck, anyway." He shrugged as he finally replied. "I was ah bounty hunter before I came 'ere so I'm used t'not havin' ah bed t'call my own."
