8. You drop your mixer completely into the bowl and watch the bubbles pop as it sinks completely into the mixture.
18. The flavors… are beautiful. At least one of the judges tear up.
15. A difficult process for you in learning to become a better cook, and lucky for you, you are definitely improving! Your stuff is great!

Alright. He was going to try to use the mixer again, this time with the purpose of making some... what was he making again? Some kind of pastry with cream on it that needed the mixer- he hadn't really read the name of it. It didn't matter what it was called, anyway. He flavored it with some citrus - people love citrus, right? - and set to work. Only to...drop the mixer into the ********, after losing time to fixing that mess, he didn't have much left to get super fancy. Simple flavors seemed to work out in his favor though, as at least one of the judges got... misty eyed? Seriously? He couldn't help but look a bit dumbfounded at that. Maybe this place really was improving his cooking skills...

Sephos Arbola

All right. He was going to try to make Punkin-and-meat pie again, to try to make it perfect. Sephos was determined to make the damn thing work. He got to work, browning the chunks of unknown meat and roasting the punkin to soften it. With them in the process of heating, Sephos focused on the pie itself.

Apples went well in the pie, and Sephos not only cut up apples, he also made sure that the crust was sweetened with juice. Cane sugar had never sat well with him -- it was a plant-based thing of course but it was difficult to grow. His father had told him that it had a bad history and was not safe to grow for his child.

Apples. Honey. Butter.... the crust was ready. Sephos took out the punkin and made the filling - punkin, cinnamon, spices -- some that Maku had told him about, some that he'd picked up from Rastin, others he'd done on his own. Punkie, too, had taught him many things, and he tried to incorporate everything that he knew into one dish.

He covered it with an egg glaze and baked the pie, washing his hands of the various residues.

[20. Both judges are thoroughly impressed by your dish’s taste and presentation!]

[18. The flavors… are beautiful. At least one of the judges tear up.]

It turned out well -- the perfect blend of practical and mirthful. It smelled delicious, and once the judges were done, Sephos helped himself to a slice of his own.

Not bad.

Not bad at all.

[9. Well, you’re not in the bottom of the barrel of cooks this time. Progress?]

Daily Results:
14. You realize you've put your food in the oven for a little too short, but as it dings you check to find its perfectly fine and you've just shaved some time off the clock for yourself!
10. Borkuisinier asks you a question about your dish, but you don’t speak musclebeast!
3. Mallok lists off a bunch of good qualities you showed before saying your name wrong and realizing he was talking about a different contestant.

Nictor put in a pretty good effort tonight, really! He was trying to make a sweet rice dessert except they...wouldn't let him use a stove top? More that his assigned station had no stove top. Just the oven itself. So, uh. he just kinda had to put the pan of rice into the oven and hope for the best? Amazingly, it worked fine. More than fine. Perfectly!

except then the musclebeast came along and kept hovering and snuffling and getting too close. The musclebeast would knock things over or into Nictor who in turn would startle and knock more things over. It was a vicious and pointless cycle and at one point when Nictor looked away the lusus ate what he'd made so far.

Well.

Nictor had been a little thrown when the juggalo judge had shown up at his station to give feedback and was singing praises when Nictor had....no dish to show? Of course it was someone else by the end of it and Nictor was left unsure on if he should be put out or relieved that that was one mystery that was solved for him. He'd had enough confusion from Bloodfest from other booths.

15. A difficult process for you in learning to become a better cook, and lucky for you, you are definitely improving! Your stuff is great!

The night is off to a bad start with Knetic cutting his finger with a knife. He yelps and quickly bandages up, hoping none of the blood got into his soup. It seems to throw him off his game for a bit. Enough that when Borkuisinier comes and questions him he's at a lose for words on how to respond! It's not like he knew how to speak musclebeast or anything! Maybe he should pick it up extra-curriculum-wise?

His night just seemed fraught with daunting moments but he felt it had all been worth it when, in the end, it seems the judges appreciate the effort he put into his dish.

16. You feel like you're really learning!
2. Is it...is it moving?!
17. Your plating is beautiful, even if you don’t become a good cook, the chefs encourage your artistic abilities.

Oh, they had... seafood? Dei admittedly had never really had seafood before. That was mistake number 1. He thought he'd been learning how to cook things, but apparently not. After taking his dish out of the oven the poor sea creature seemed to still be moving. Oh god. Was that normal? He doused it in a bit of soy sauce - it began to move more. Oh god. At least it looked pretty. Both judges seemed to enjoy the look of the dish even if.. well... the taste probably wasn't that good. He actually felt a little bad about giving them something potentially still alive.

Yes, even the juggalo.

Daily Results:
3. First fire of the night belongs to you!
5. The dish calls for a specific kind of beast meat. A lusus from the audience gives you a disapproving glare.
13. The chef-judges seem really proud of your progress!

Nictor may have accidentally sabotaged some of the competition when his winter hoodie caught fire. You'd think he'd know enough to keep those limbs away from burners but sometimes you just space out, you know? In his frantic pat down to extinguish the fire though, it...spread to three other stations. That caused some lusii to startle and when lusii startle, that can be hard to manage.

No less than five fledgling dishes were lost. The mourning was brief as the show must go on, singled hands and spatulas or not.

And of course Nictor was asked to handle meat for his dish and that....didn't go over well, he didn't really do meat, didn't want to touch it or cook it and made him feel squeamish inside. The audience didn't seem impressed either.

He'd found a couple things to substitute the meat and that was apparently enough to get him some praise for ingenuity. Because there wasn't much else to praise about this. Maybe the judge was just impressed with the sabotage.

Well this is a mish-mash of a night! One minute there's judges telling you that you are great at replicating dishes and the next it's bland! It's a bit disheartening but it's all valid criticism! He keeps in mind that one bad night won't spoil a good week.

He's rather confused when Mallok starts listing things about him that are contradictory to what the initial verdict seemed to be. Then the name pops up and Knetic is now certain Mallok is very mistaken. Well. Alright.

The eggs hatched.

They Hatched. That was new! He wasn't going to bake them into a pie. New eggs, new dough, a good pie was made and it was good.

The final thing... Faygo. A nice serving of faygo.

Sephos didn't know why it got such poor marks. Was it the wrong Faygo?

15. Your teacher’s hand-on demonstration allows you to understand the process really well!
6. You rushed and only barely managed to get your food on a plate before time’s up!
4. Well, most of it cooked until it was solid at least!

Dillys had missed a night of this amazingly creative, and fun booth. Getting ready with Connie in preparation for the toboggan event had eaten up a good part of his night in preparation for the main event. He enjoyed coming here, it helped him refine his cooking skills...and also a chance to try and impress. Cerise's demo was simply amazing, and he was able to follow her along to a T! The redblood smiled as he observed, taking away a great deal from the demo!

When it came time to cook the main course, Dillys decided to make pulled pork. He was, however, extremely exhausted after toboggan. His body hurt, and he was sore in places he didn't even realize existed. Even rushing, the seconds began to tick down. Sweat trickled down his temple. He was desperately trying to beat the clock and get his food on the plate on time. Dillys was just barely by the skin of his teeth able to complete his plating. Exhaling slowly he shook his head in wonder at the end result.

Now it was time to present to the judges. Taking a deep breath, he walked with his dish towards them..keeping an eye out for any wild lusii that wanted to try and eat his dish.

While they didn't exactly like it, as he had just barely managed to get it cooked all the way through it wasn't bad either! He hadn't scored nearly as well as some nights, he could see the looks of contempt. It was edible...but just barely. Rubbing his neck sheepishly, he got back in line, hands behind his back at attention.

18. Oh! You're actually pretty good at replicating this dish.
19. Cerise spends some time fawning over complexities in your dish.
7. The chefs are disappointed in you, but not giving up yet!

Final night, final attempt at making something perfect. Honestly, it all seemed to be going according to plan at the beginning. He felt confident about what he was doing, and everything seemed to look like what the example dish was. Cerise was not present though but he was pretty sure she'd have made some comments about the ingredients he was using. Then again maybe he was wrong, the last week was a blur, honestly.

But all of that confidence came to a halt at the end. Mallok didn't seem to like it. What?? He'd been doing so well!

9. You were supposed to make an interesting flavor profile, and well. It's interesting?
8. Well, your food was okay, but kind of underspiced? More salt next time buddy!
16. Accolades for you! Good job! Even Caima seems proud.

After coming consistently every day of the festival, Nictor was recognizable at this booth and while a few of the judges were disappointed at the lack of mayhem or interesting explosion in his wake today, others were quite pleased. He even got a small round of applause.

apparently the secret to getting by was to just not try to do anything more than the most basic requirements possible, don't play with the seasoning, just. Just cook the rice, cook the fruit, cook the sauce. just put it all in one pot, cook it, serve it, and don't mess with it more than you have to.

That didn't feel like a totally correct lesson to walk away with but it saved him from more fires so...
