Among the booths lining the cold boardwalk, one stands out with its figures in pink and purple and matching (yet damaged?) scalemates on the table. And that's just from the first, far-off glance.

Upon looking closer, you can see a collection of badges on the table (organized perfectly) next to the scalemates (also organized perfectly) plus some other things! You'll check those out later though.

Of note is a whole gaggle of pamphlets. So many pamphlets. All mentioning a 'Grub Scouts', whatever that is.

You might want to know about that, you might not, but if nothing else, you wanna know about what all is going on here, right?

Talk to Mera
As you're peering around, a troll next to you is looking at a pamphlet while one of the booth-runners is talking to them. After idle conversation, the troll puts the pamphlet down, leans down to pet something in the pen next to the other booth-runner, then leaves.

Once they're out of sight, the first booth-runner reorganizes the pamphlets again. In that moment, you make eye contact.

Oh no.

"Hello and welcome," she greets. "I am Mera and this is Leeroi. We're representing Grub Scouts, a start-up organization focusing on giving children and teenagers hands-on experience with the wilderness as well as other life skills. The pamphlets have more information."

She gestures to the scary-neat selection.

"In the meantime, we want to also represent the sorts of skills trolls would get to pick up as a part of the group. The difficulty varies, but they are all not only challenging and fun but might give you some life-long experiences. Feel free to take a look at the games here, and if you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them."

Talk to Leeroi
The beefy booth-runner hands off some bug nets to a pair of eager children, then turns his sights on you. He smiles cheesily at you, and that perfect row of sharp teeth is only a little bit terrifying. He slaps his hands down on the booth in front of you, and it shakes slightly.

“Hey, kid! Do you like going on wild adventures? Developing crucial survival skills? Making friendships that will last a lifetime?”

He’s too excited to give you much time to answer.

“Of course you do! Well, that’s what Grub Scouts is all about! We teach a variety of skills in a safe, fun environment— and after you learn those skills, you get to keep an awesome merit badge! We’ve got a couple you can try out now, why not give it your best shot?”

The Great Big Bug Hunt
Did you know grasshoppers have special organs in their hind legs that store energy for jumping?

User Image

You can hear a cacophony of sounds in a small fenced space, and when you look you immediately see some potted plants. While you think the layers of buzzing are coming from some hidden speakers, upon closer inspection you find white blobs on the plants and ground. One flies past you. Looks like they're all bugs!

That explains the badge posted above the space.

It looks like you'll have to go in and catch one and see if it's up to par if you want a shot at that badge.

When you approach, Leeroi hands you a catching net and a small mason jar with holes in the lid. “Bugs are cool! And they’re an integral participant in our natural ecosystem!!” He explains with shouting enthusiasm.

“Please, DO NOT EAT THEM!” He adds. “I know they look very tasty but we only brought so many…”

Well, there you go. Get cracking!

Game Mechanics

Roll a 1d100 once per day to see if you can catch a big bug! Leeroi will assess it, and if you end up finding a big 'un, you'll get a badge.

Even if you don't get a badge, a ticket will be rolled for the game nightly based on participation! So keep coming back!

Please post this form when you roll and include at least one sentence of RP:
🐛I netted something for you, sempai!🐛

Results Table

1-10
You caught a Snail! Wait, that’s not a bug! You didn’t even have chase it, since it moves so slow. Leeroi seems disappointed. Did you really try your hardest?

11-20
You caught an Ant! How did you even catch this with a net? It’s so small, Leeroi almost didn’t see it. Maybe try for one of the bigger bugs, kiddo.

21-40
You caught a Fly! Gross. Leeroi didn’t intentionally bring any flies in, so he doesn’t know what to teach. You both awkwardly stand there until it’s clear that he won’t give you a badge for this.

41-60
You caught a Cricket! Unluckily for you, it jumped right out of the jar before you could close the lid. Oh well, better luck next time!

61-80
You caught a Butterfly! So pretty and delicate! Leeroi teaches you all about proboscises and wing patterns. A great learning moment! He gives you a Bug Merit Badge!

81-97
You caught a Dragonfly! Leeroi knows these guys can fly up to 30 MPH, so you must have been booking it. Great hunting! He gives you a Bug Merit Badge!

98-100
You caught a Beetle! Wait, how did you find that? Leeroi checks his pockets frantically. With a sigh, he lets you keep the change you found, and gives you a Bug Merit Badge!

Meet-n-Weave
As they say, sharing is caring!

User Image

As you peer over the counter, you see a colorful display of strings. Hemera notices your interest. "Ah, these are materials for friendship bracelets. Just tie together some strings of different colors, then start looping and braiding. If there's a specific design you want, there are paper instructions out on how to make them. When you're done, feel free to keep it, give it to a close friend, or someone new!"

You spy one of the end results on her wrist, and when you look over at the troll sitting next to her, you see that Leeroi is wearing a matching bracelet.

User Image

Maybe making one yourself would actually be pretty cool... And perhaps some generosity will net you a cool badge?

Game Mechanics

Create a friendship bracelet! You have the options to color one for yourself (or one your character intends to give to another) or request for it be made for you.

To be entered for a game-specific participation ticket, you need to roll 3d6 for the type of bracelet you make. You are also free to make as many other bracelets you like outside of the roll. You are not required to color or have your rolled bracelet colored to be able to enter the daily raffle; just make sure that you have hit the RP minimums (which is one line of RP)! Only the first rolled bracelet you make per day will count towards the daily raffle.

For everyone who creates a luck of the draw (3d6) bracelet, a ticket will be rolled nightly based on participation! So keep coming back!

Please post this form when you roll for a bracelet:

Playing Medic
Always put butterfly bandages across the cut.

User Image

You look over to see a scalemate who doesn't look too hot. Oh no! Sir Stuffington needs help, stat! It's up to you to find what's wrong and fix it! You can choose easy, medium, and hard ailments to test yourself with. So, do you have what it takes to make him better?

Game Mechanics

Roll a die once per day and the result is how your first aid efforts go! There is also a point count, which will be used at the end of Bloodfest for badge considerations.

To play on easy mode, roll a d4
To play on medium mode, roll a d8
To play on hard mode, roll a d10

No matter what your score is for the day, a ticket will be rolled for the game nightly based on participation that day. So keep coming back for more opportunities!

Please post this form and at least one line of RP when you roll:

Results Table: Easy

User Image Find Stuffington's cut and try to take care of it! Roll a d4 and check the results below to see how you did.
1- You apply a bandaid. Quick and simple! +2pts

2- You know that it's important to disinfect, so you get the HP out. But you end up using it a bit too liberally and soak the bandaid! Fission mailed. 0pts

3- You disinfect and apply the bandaid. Textbook! +2pts

4- You kiss Stuffington's booboo before putting the bandaid on. Awwwww. +2pts

Results Table: Medium

User Image Stuffington has a broken leg! Roll a d8 and check the results below to see how you did.
1- Without thinking you tear the leg clean off. Ruh roh. Fission mailed. 0pts

2- You make a splint and- oh, it's bent the wrong way. Fission mailed. 0pts

3- You sew up the cut that's making his leg flop and use the bandage roll to raise it up. Well. Good enough? +4pts

4- If you have medical knowledge, you blank as you stare into Stuffington's eyes. If you have no medical knowledge, you're hypnotized even further. Fission mailed. 0pts

5- You have a hard time getting it sewn up, but you at least have the mind to get a cute little splint going. It's a start! +4pts

6- Sewing turns out to be a disaster, so, you slap a bandy-aid on the cut. It's...something? +4pts

7- You try to sew the leg up, but the seams are too loose! The leg flops back into being broken. Fission mailed. 0pts

8- You get the leg sewn up and make an excellent splint! Good job! +4pts

Results Table: Hard

User Image Oh no! Stuffington was in a bad accident! It looks like he's lost an eye and a leg. That's not good at all! Can you put him back together while his body parts will still take? Roll a d10 to find out! Note: This will be timed.
1- You look at the disaster before you and start to cry. When will the horror end? 0pts

2- You apologize to Stuffington before painfully sewing his eye back on. The leg is not as a traumatizing venture, though you kind of overdo it with the sewing. Well... He's in one piece? +8pts

3- You barely get the leg done before you run out of time to take care of the eye! Doi! Fission mailed. 0pts

4- The butto-...eye...falls off the counter and rolls under the booth stand. Noooooo! 0pts

5- The time limit gives you an adrenaline rush, and you work in double speed...just for you to look at your finished work and see that everything's hanging loosely. You look at Stuffington in his one good eye. This is not what he wanted. 0pts

6- You focus on getting his leg on securely, and with time to spare- it falls into the gerbil pen! You almost give in to failure, then get the sudden idea to create a makeshift eyepatch. Your ingenuity is enough to save your grade. +8pts

7- You keep trying to sew the leg back on, but fluff keeps coming out. It's overwhelming. You can't see through the tears in your eyes. You have to let him go. 0pts

8- You speed through the sewing like a pro, and it's not until you finish that you sewed his leg on upside down. Uh. 0pts

9- You keep pricking your finger, making it impossible to finish in the allotted time window! 0pts

10- You get a really long piece of thread and go to town on that leg. When you're finished, that leg will never come off again. Oh, yeah, and you get the eye taken care of in like three pokes. What a pro! +8pts

Gussy Up a Gerb
Did you know gerbils can discern fifty unique types of fabric?

User Image

Some robotically-enhanced gerbils are scuttling about in a playpen next to Leeroi's side of the table. They appear available for handling! And, more importantly, they're available for dress-up. Are you up for the challenge?

Game Mechanics

Collage an outfit for one of Leeroi's gerbils! Each gerbil has a "preference" for style design. This is gerbil care, you know! Also they would like pets. Forever. Never stop.

This is a game that will require the use of Polyvore-like sites like Shoplook, where you can create clothing collages! Or you can manually post clothes into digital art/editing software if you find that easier to do. As long as the final result is a collage where all the pieces are visible, that's what counts.

Please post this form with your dressed-up gerbil:
I made it work!
Gerbil:
Entry: [Put your gerbil picture here! Please use spoiler tags if it's larger than 500x500 pixels]

There are no tickets for this game, or a limit of how many times you can enter! The best design will receive a matching outfit tailored to fit them by Hemera, with art of the troll in the outfit (and matching gerbil) by Gl!tch~.

Grub Scouts and You!

If you're interested in joining Grub Scouts, read through this post!

Pamphlet information:
What is Grub Scouts?
Grub Scouts is an organized group focused on education through engagement. Learning is best enriched through hands-on experience, and Grub Scouts is a way to learn practical skills as well as more about nature.

What are the benefits of joining Grub Scouts?
By joining Grub Scouts, you open up opportunities to learn many things that might be beyond what you would otherwise. All trips and workshops directly benefit scouts' knowledge and abilities going forward. Furthermore, they are given a balance of independence and community-building within each thing they do.

What sorts of things can I learn in Grub Scouts?
There are many things! The primary focus is learning how to survive as well as enjoy nature, as well as practical and trade skills. A troll can learn things such as gardening, woodworking, gerbil care, tracking, fishing, and so much more!

What are the badges for?
Badges symbolize expertise in their representative skills. They are something to be proud of!

What are the different ranks?
Grub Scout is the entry level all children start at. All that's expected of the rank is to show up and have fun!
Pupa Scout is the default for teenagers, starting at 6 sweeps. Whether joining at that age or hitting that benchmark, the troll will automatically become a Pupa Scout. Pupa Scouts are expected to have at least a minimal amount of responsibility, in an effort to hone their leadership skills.
Beetle Scout is a prestigious rank, earned by hard work and dedication. A troll must at least be a teenager, and earn specific badges showing their mettle. Beetle Scouts benefit from not only experiencing what the organization has to offer, but contributing to it. All Beetle Scouts are given at least some amount of management responsibility.

What are your qualifications?
Hemera Moachm is a part of the Lightseekers, interested in peace over conflict, community, and learning how to live off the land. Mera contributed to the Space Race on the Chittentown side, making new friendships and alliances there and relying on them during the bomb threat. She is also a sergeant in the Alternian military, having served in space and also getting into detective work as of late. Of note, she lives in Busthind, which has made her hardy and appreciative of nature, as hard as it may be sometimes. Mera believes in practicality, and that all hobbies and interests can help better people on personal levels.
She also makes some pretty good hot cocoa.

Leeroi Furore is a sergeant in the Alternian military, with his first mission in space. Prior to that, he took part in detective work at the ill-fated royalist ball at Erilyn Awassi's hive, and joined the Space Race on the Chittentown side. His primary hobbies include robotics and gerbil care, with an interest in intersecting the two. He lives on Busthind, which has not managed to kill him yet despite multiple opportunities to do so. If what doesn't kill you makes you stronger...

What does "limited lusus supervision" mean?
It means that there are excursions Grub Scouts can go on that will give them opportunity to be independent from their lusii for short periods of time. In these moments, children grow through self-reliance as well as bonding as a community. Such excursions are safety-oriented and would never put them in harmful situations, and there will always be plenty of Pupa Scouts and Beetle Scouts to make sure of this.

How do I join Grub Scouts?
You can fill out an application at the booth and hand it in to either Hemera or Leeroi. If you are unable to sign up until after Bloodfest, either send your application to Hemera Moachm, or send her a request for one if you do not have an application.

How can my friends join Grub Scouts?
Have them come to the booth to fill out an application, or send a request to Hemera Moachm after Bloodfest ends.

What are the differences in Grub and Pupa Scout applications?
Most children will be accepted automatically, but potential Pupa Scouts need to confirm that they have the interest in ability to lead others.

Will it be fun?
Yes! While education is the primary focus, fun is of great importance as well. Scouts are encouraged to take part in activities that interest them. There is never any obligation to attend any excursions or events that seem uninteresting.

Will it actually be fun?
Absolutely! If you have doubts, consider signing up for camp! This event will be geared towards multiple opportunities for Scouts to have a good time. Between the canoe races, water balloon tag, and campfire s'mores, among many other planned activities, there are no drawbacks!

OOC FAQ:

How does a troll actually join?
Just fill out the appropriate form and post it in the thread! Or, if you make the decision after Bloodfest, just contact zeflamigo or Gl!tch~ about your interest in having a troll join up

How exclusive will the organization be?
Not very! Basically anyone can join, as long as they're not blacklisted by the military (sorry Guo) or proclaiming rebel sympathy (aka rebels are okay as long as they play it safe). However, Mera and Leeroi also have the right to turn applications down if they have reason to believe the person will be a major disruption. This is more so for teen+ applicants than child applicants; possibly-disruptive kids are considered more potential projects and so are more likely to be given a pass. Most of the time, though, rejection should not be an issue! If you have any concerns, feel free to contact zeflamigo or Gl!tch~

Can I have more than one troll join?
Absolutely! There is no limits to how many of your trolls can join. We will work with you if there is any concern about prolonged interaction between multiple trolls you may have.

Can my troll keep any badges or prizes they win even if they do not join Grub Scouts?
Of course! If a troll wins booth badges but does not join Scouts, they will just be considered "honorary" badges. No harm, no foul. Prizes will not be revoked unless there has been some major clerical error

Gnash saw bugs. She saw bright purple and pink and the word grub scouts and walked over curiously, her large lusus looming. Really child is this how you would spend your time, another of these useless events when a girl of your stature should be doing much more, she hissed as Gnash approached the table, seeing a familiar face in Leeroi. Angel glared at the booth runners, mouth open and angler dangling.

Gnash reached for the net, wriggling uncomfortably at the repeated request not to eat the bugs. "I would like to catch some bugs now please thank you I am going to go and do that now and not eat them as requested," she said.

Quickly she netted a small white butterfly and brought it back to the blueblood, opening the net carefully with her bright pink fingers. "I have procured this insect what does that mean for me and my abilities is it very good and accurate of me and also I did not eat it," she adds.

"GOT you, you little flying jerk!" Quella shouted as she clapped her hands around the offending fat buzzbug. She practically skipped back to the entrance of the fenced area. She'd been chasing the damn thing for what had to be ten minutes, ever since it had zipped right past her face. The hunter hadn't even considered how hard it could be to catch something that could fly. Hard and incredibly frustrating.

"Hey! Hey I got one!" she said, bounding up to the blueblood running the booth. The blueblood had a huge, proud smile on her face. "And it was huge and a pain in the butt too! But I got it!" The hunter opened her hand to reveal... a smashed pile of bug guts.

Both of them stared at the mess in horror.

"Uh... I'll just... be... going." The hunter said, biting her lip and wiping the mess away on her pants.

Quella looked down at the patient, impatiently. "Alright, Stuffington. We can do this the easy way, or the hard way." The blueblood bent down, held her sewing needle right at eye level of the plush. "You and me... we've been doing this dance for far too long. Now, before I do something we're both going to regret, I'm gonna give you one last chance. WHERE ARE YOUR FRIENDS?"

There was a tap on her shoulder, and a short conversation.

"What do you mean I'm supposed to fix him?" Quella scoffed. "He's fine! He looks fine. Never healthier." she said, as the button eye that was hanging low dropped to the ground with a little *plink*.

"I mean, other than the fact that he's clearly withholding information vital to the cause."

This booth had crafts, and while the presence of military trolls unnerved him a bit - he was intrigued. And as he approached and saw the quadrant bracelets... a bit inspired. His thin fingers worked the strings, molding it into a patterned bracelet. The ruddy orange blood color he picked was a bit similar to another, achingly familiar color, but... another quadrant. Another gender even. Someone just as close, if not closer. He finished the bracelet, and began on another. Well, it wouldn't hurt to have a second one, in case the first made her... uncomfortable.

Cynril had been adamant about attending Bloodfest. His training had been going... sufficiently enough that Byakko felt like he deserved a little reward- a small taste of the outside to remind himself what he had been missing out on due to his own poor conduct- completely supervised, of course.

And so the two worked their way through the crowds, Cynril under her watchful eye. Her outfit was, once again, thrown together from Odette's old hand me downs. She thought they smelt nice. If anyone asked they were redblooded moirails, so her lingering around him constantly didn't look out of place. Byakko paused at the scout booth, eyes drawn by colourful string.

"This looks interesting." Waving Cynril over, she pointed down at the weaving instructions. "Yureey, see? It's just like the knots we've been learning. Why don't we give this a try?" She stiffened slightly as she studied the pattern with hearts, then moved to collect her materials.

Her bracelet began sloppily, but as 'Rizzoh' got into the swing of it, she had something she was decently proud of. Akko couldn't remember the last time she actually made something, just for the sake of making it. Was this art? Did she just art?

"Here," she handed the bracelet to Cynril. It was subtle enough, she thought. "You can keep it."

Emi loved Bloodfest for all the wrong reasons. Hue competition? Whatever, she was just here to have fun and enjoy a good time. The booths, the action, the constant stimulation at every corner! Now that was what she was here for.

That being said, she wasn't sure what to expect here. Grub scouts? Catching bugs? Sure, chill, whatever. That is, until she saw the supplies for making friendship bracelets of all things. She knew immediately what she had to do.

"I'm keeping the first one." She explained, "'Cause I've never made one before! Like, you know, it's totally a warm up." Also, she didn't have anyone in mind to give the first bracelet to, but she didn't want to admit that. But the second one...

It was perfect-o! The cream of the crop. The big, spicy meatball. She couldn't be rejected if she presented a gift alongside her admission, right? Right! Flawless thinking Emi.

Cynril couldn't believe he actually managed to convince Byakko to allow him to go to bloodfest. It was certainly a good feeling to be out of he swamp for a while and he was gong to treasure each second of it. Yureey turned his attention to the other "redblood" and glanced at the weaving instructions. Seemed easy enough, after watching Rizzoh that is. "Yeah... Okay."

His stomach twisted as he saw the morail bracelets, knowing well that his friend had suffered a horrible death and probably a horrible after life. He took a deep breath, Byakko was his pretend morail. He had to play pretend as well if he wanted to convince her that she could trust him. Weaving was easy, as he had always trained his hands to do complex knots for his tricks. It was relaxing actually. Cynril was so absorbed in his weaving that he honestly didn't notice Akko had already finished with hers. "Oh, that looks so nice!" And it was his to keep...

"I'mma finish with mine in a second Riz." He smiled. Trying not to stutter sure was hard. He gulped before looking down at his unfinished bracelet. "Or more than a few s-seconds..."
