Physical Description: Why is he so tall? Almost 7 feet? Why? Lightly tanned, dark and almond-eyed, broken nosed, pierced eared, short and dark hair. Well filled out for his size, seems more like a brawler than a doctor. Tattoo of a bird's wing around left shoulder blade and partial bicep. Random smattering of scars along body and face. Resting b***h face. Face seems asymmetrical.
Personality: Arc is 190 pounds of non-verbal misanthropy in a 205 pound body; the other 15 lbs. goes to the amount of coffee he drinks. He's not an active participant in society, at least when it comes to non-work related things, and rather prefers to appear closed off and assholish since it just makes things easier. People go away for various reasons or just don't work out in the end, in his eyes: candidates become weyrlings who don't really care or have time for someone other than their classmates or their dragon; or people leave for personal reasons; or people simply die. It's easier to simply close the gate before visitors try to track mud into the house in the first place.
Sarcasm is his second language, medical jargon his first. Those seem to be his top two priorities in life as well, not giving a damn about you as a person but certainly making sure his work is stellar. Liking how he does things isn't a part of the requirement, after all. Arcadin is an incredibly pragmatic person, and it shows in his demeanor and in the cold aura he exudes; some days it honestly seems like he would punch someone out rather than talk if angered, though he hasn't rustled feathers since becoming a candidate. He's almost entirely cerebral when approaching things, head over heart, logical to a fault, always thinking about what's most efficient instead of what is best.
His old days of pit fighting in Bitral have left him physically and emotionally scarred, though he'd rather go in the ring again than ask for pity. He's used to the idea of simply being a tool, so now he acts like one, literally and figuratively; years of thinking only about himself are hard to mold into something better for a dragonrider. His best use is to help others recover from their injuries, and clearly that's all he's good for now if he's not allowed to fight. Arc has since begun mastering control over his darker thoughts and impulses, but while his clinical personality has been in place for a long time now, he's secretly afraid that one day he'll simply snap and be kicked out for doing something stupid, like finally scrapping with someone he can't stand. He has a dark temper that he does his best to keep locked down, doing so with a disdainful attitude that wards most people away to avoid any possible incidents.
He's a young man of very few friends, but those that can crawl over or under those walls have someone just a little too dedicated to making sure they're okay. And maybe not in the protective way either - he'd rather be proactive and crush problems rather than insulate against them. Maybe that means threatening a problematic person. Maybe that means forcing a friend to stay in their room and slapping them anytime they reach for the klah again. He's unafraid to get dirty and, daresay, revels in it sometimes. Like taking a little break from the cleanly and stringent persona he usually wears.

History: Bitra's entertainment runs the gamut of possibilities, and for the poor and forever indebted family, the freedom to choose what indignity to participate in is a blessing in disguise. Human pitfighting ranks up there for the more bloodthirsty connoisseur, and for someone like Arcadin, whom grew up with his teeth cut against his mother's knuckles, it felt natural. In spite of their poverty, he grew tall and monstrous, mostly in thanks to the cut allowed to him after winning his fights, and he embraced that idea whole-heartedly for a handful of turns. Frankly, he wouldn't have left Bitra at all had he not been sold by his handler to a miner's guild in Crom Hold to make up for a string of losses Arc had eventually suffered in the pit.
The vein was not as prosperous as initially evaluated for, however, and Arc found himself another vagrant on the streets for some time. After collapsing from pneumonia one harsh winter, giving into the idea of death as dully as one greets a rude mother-in-law, he awoke sore and drugged at a healer's encampment. Without a direction for himself, and under a rather paternal healer, Arcadin began unofficial tutelage at 16 turns under a self-imposed life debt to the man that picked him up off the cold street. He showed remarkable dexterity and aptitude for the craft and was eventually recommended to the hall, though the boy was loath to leave his caretaker and refused the offer. His mentor, Gergor, was more than enough.
Arc was just as bullheaded 9 turns later when he was scouted, as Gregor was considering retirement around the same time. But Gregor told him that one of his other employees would take over the business just fine and urged him to lend his skills towards the brave dragonriders at High Reaches. Arc only barely agreed, promising to keep in touch.
