Beloved Werewolf

PostPosted: Sun Sep 30, 2018 6:33 pm
Name: F'gon
Age: 80
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Who even knows
Weyr: Western Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: --
Physical Description: F'gon is old. There is no doubt from anybody who looks at him that this man has been around for a while, from hair and a (very luxurious) beard that has gone grey, to the wrinkles around his dark eyes. While he still has many, many years left in him, he's simply not as spry or as quick as any of the younger riders anymore.
Personality: F’gon doesn’t much like Thread, but he’s gotten too far on in age to do much about it. This leaves him endlessly frustrated as he bustles from task to task, looking to find what an old man can do to be useful. This is partially out of not wanting to feel like he completely missed the boat - though he certainly has. Mostly, however, it is out of a burning fear that he will somehow outlive all of those he loves. It took a lot of his heart to find the strength to move on without his beloved Hestya. Then he lost his youngest daughter when Thread returned. With his remaining children active in the battle against thread, and their children looking to join, F’gon cannot protect them all. It is not easily accepted.

However, he also does not want to drive them away with his overbearing worry. His mourning and worry and fear are a heavy weight that he feels, though possibly incorrectly, will drive those he cares about away, and he tries to shoulder them all himself, even when he should reach out instead. He also wants nothing to do with anybody else’s bad times and does not make a listening ear. But that won’t stop F’gon from wondering why nobody wants him to be their crying shoulder.

Despite his age, F’gon is still sharp as a tack, and just as observant. His experience in the world, especially in realizing that there are things more important than himself, has given him a temperament needed in assisting others as much as possible. His wisdom has been given freely, and while he cannot share what feels like the crucial knowledge of the time, he instead offers everything else. Even if this means, spending what time he has scouring through the books and making sure the histories of Pern are at the forefront of his mind, ready to be slung out at the moment they become useful. This also is in assisting with the children of the Weyr while they are in the creche, ready to listen to all of their eager stories, and their pestering, and their competing shouted statements, all begging for attention. His patience has a very high limit, and the statement ‘You’ll understand when they’re yours’ doesn’t apply to him - they’re all his now.

In his youth, F’gon had a strong competitive spirit, and while that spirit still remains, the way it can be executed in practice has slowly dimmed as his age has come at him with creaky joints and less energy. Now, he simply has to have the last word in all arguments, as well as let everybody know that he has done more than they have - even if sometimes the point of the conversation wasn’t who has gone more, or suffered more.
Positive Trait List Generous, Sharp-witted, Patient
Negative Trait List Fearful, Emotionally-Reclusive, One-upper
History: Faragon and his Farvath were not a pair born to Western Weyr. A seaborn boy of the southern continent, Faragon was considered a candidate in that numbers were needed to introduce to a clutch that was guarded by a visiting queen. He was considered beloved to a bronze of unmajestic stature. It wasn’t a completely unusual beginning for a dragonrider considering the era of calm they both had been born into. They would receive a very basic training and it would be all they ended up needing.

Farvath and his boy enjoyed a free life, and for the first nearly 20 turns of their life together, the two were content to continue idle travelling. Farvath enjoyed competing with other dragons - and there were many to be found - but his ultimate competition came in a gold that rose above Western Weyr. Herath was a majestic beauty - and Farvath was determined to make her his. The opposite became true as well, as the longer the bronze and his rider remained at the Weyr, the more easily they became ensnared. Farvath, by Herath, and F’gon by Hestya. It would be even before the clutch would hatch to find their lifemates that Hestya’s pregnancy became obvious.

And F’gon couldn’t just leave with that final nail in a coffin that was already being shut from the inside. Farvath found himself completely enamoured by his golden beauty, and this love would grow by tenfold when his first golden daughter broke shell. He was no more eager to leave than his rider.

There was still plenty of competition for Farvath to find in a Weyr that was considered backwards by the standards of most - and the idea that he got no favors for his hide simply fed into his needs. Life was nice - Farvath and Herath with their clutches, and F’gon and Hestya bringing 4 children into the world.

20 turns would not feel like nearly long enough when Hestya passed, and the mantle of fatherhood on his own would become a struggle. While Farvath was up to the challenge, he had to lean a lot of support into his rider who was not nearly as prepared. It would be the unwaivering love of his youngest - merely 12 at the time - that helped take the edge off of the cutting sadness.

It would be far more difficult when his youngest died upon the return of Thread, leaving behind 2 orphaned grandchildren that F’gon clings to almost desperately. He does not hold their wants against them, but fear has taken the man in a way it never did before.
Other: F’gon has plenty of grandchildren, but the 2 his youngest left behind are 15 and 17 respectively.

DRAGON
Name: Farvath
Age: 65
Color: Bronze
Size: 38'
Physical Description: Farvath's length comes in being regally built with a graceful neck and tail. His wing span is wider than average and even in his old age he flies beautifully.
Personality: While his ambition perhaps would have served him better at High Reaches, where his glittering hide would have been a boon to his goals, there was no fun to be found in such shortcuts. Rather than be handed his worth, Farvath was determined to compete with all of his fellows for a cause that in a time of calm, was harder to find. For him, it became in a charm and sweetness he would only offer to one - his late and beloved Herath. While she is long passed, the spirit he showed in his pursuit and devotion has not died off. Simply, he will not devote his hearts to any other as he did her.

His sharp mind is now entertained with less physical challenges, enjoying bets, witty banter with the younger dragons, and the idle gossip that comes with his age.
