Physical Description: 5'2", waist length wavy black hair, moderately tanned skin (think Polynesian skin tones), deep mossy-green eyes, well-built (broad shoulders and hips, slightly muscular but still soft, not too much going on in the way of feminine curves), she has two tattoos: a tribal band depicting the moon cycle circles her right upper arm and a larger piece covers her back which is a tribal depiction of a ship at sea, dolphins are leading it away from shore and a dragon flies above it. The arm piece is linked to her craft (the moon cycle affecting tides) while the back piece symbolizes her desire to leave the family business behind and do something -more-.
Personality: Haelwen is one of those women who wakes in the morning and is instantly in high-gear. She will make her to-do list and knock things out as quickly as possible and then add more things just to stay busy. This young woman -hates- sitting idle which is why she gets so frustrated with her craft at times. Waiting on fish. Waiting on currents. Waiting on customers. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Life has so much more to offer than just -waiting- and why should she have to waste her time? This is both a blessing and a curse, it makes her highly efficient and she is able to quickly learn new skills but her drive can also cause others to feel insulted, ignored, or even irritated because they can not or will not keep pace with her.
Despite her ambition, or perhaps because of it, Haelwen also enjoys taking time for herself. She has dabbled in training fire lizards as well as dolphineering when she had downtime while docked at ports all over Pern. She also found a passion in dancing and often spends her nights dancing to the music created by practicing harpers, interpreting their music into a story she acts out. Haelwen enjoys striking up conversation with anyone interested in beasts of any sort, or music and dance, she also never passes up a chance to learn from someone with experience in an area in which she has lacks. She will strive to be the best at whatever she chooses to do, as well as learning just enough about everything else along the way that she doesn't make a fool of herself if she is asked to talk about it.

History: Born in the middle of a massive storm at sea and miles away from any land mass, on the first ship her parents had built together. Haelwen and her twin brother could not have possibly picked a worse time or place to make their arrival to Pern. They were early and it took their parents by surprise, thinking they still had at least another month before the baby (imagine the shock realizing there were two!) was to be born. Though the ship was tossed about like a plaything by the storm her father managed to keep it upright and his expertise as a captain kept his family safe despite the ship being a loss when they finally came ashore. When they reached port in Tillek they stayed with extended family for quite awhile. Her father still went out to sea and brought home fish to sell as well as built boats for others to support his newly expanded family while her mother stayed with the babies and helped run the shop.
As soon as she and her brother were old enough to understand safety rules they took to the ship with their father and began traveling all of Pern. Their mother gave them basic lessons aboard the ship to ensure they would have at least some education but once they were old enough their father had them begin helping with duties on the ship.
While she was always happy to help her parents and learn new things by the time she was 15 Haelwen realized she was quite sick of fishing, and of selling fish. She attempted to bring it up to her parents and while her mother was initially supportive her father quickly shut down the idea that she leave to attend a craft hall for education in another craft. As the eldest of the children, and the more reliable between herself and Hyseren, he wanted her to stay and train to take over the business instead. Swallowing her own dreams and desires she agreed in order to keep the peace and avoid disappointing her father.
As the years had passed, Haelwen had become a big sister and she saw her new baby brother as a ray of light, rekindling her dreams. She focused all of her time on teaching him how to do all of the things she had learned on the ship. Her parents saw it as her taking the initiative and honing her skills for training future help for their business but in Haelwen had other plans. Now she is 21 and her little brother is 17 and has really stepped up and shown a passion for fishing and everything that goes with it. Haelwen figures now is as good of a time as any to make her break, hopefully her parents will forgive her when they realize she has left fishing behind her and started writing the next chapter in her life.
Other: Her parents and younger brother still live primarily on their ship with temporary residences with extended family members in both Tillek and Black Sands holds when they come to shore. Her brother, Hyseren, stayed behind with her in Tillek Hold where they are expanding the family shop. She has not experienced any deaths in the family but she has suffered from not making deep personal connections with others due to constantly moving from port to port. Her closest friend outside of her family is a Journeyman Harper who always has a new song to share with her when she reaches Fort Hold they met when she was nine turns and the boy was fourteen and she fell in love with his songs and he with her dancing but Haelwen has never had romantic attachments to anyone.
