Physical Description: When his face isn't marred by a scowl aimed at his brother (and often still then), Bukichi is very handsome, with olive skin, light eyes, and dark hair. His hair is grown long and has an almost beach-y wave to it that is more prominent when pulled back as it attempts to fluff out in all directions.
One would need to pull out a ruler to tell if he's shorter or taller than his brother, but he has distinctly broader shoulders that are only emphasized by the layered way he dresses to hide the strength of his arms and back.
Personality: Life is not fair, and no one knows this better than Bukichi. By all rights, as the legitimate son of the leader of the Silver Finger Thieves, there should have been no question that he would one day lead the troupe. The problem is, his half brother has always been just slightly ahead of him: Matotoka has always been more skilled, more sneaky, and all around just better than him. As a result, his jealousy and bitterness have manifested to something bordering on hatred for his sibling, and Bukichi makes little effort to disguise this fact. If actively seeking attention, the young man can become extremely jealous if not given what he assumes is his due.
Where his brother is a friendly and open sort, Bukichi is slightly more reserved, but can absolutely turn on the charm when necessary… though he’s certainly not bright and honorable person that Matotoka is. With a darker view on life, the young man believes in the ideal of the ends justify the means. As long as his end goal is accomplished, he will absolutely do what is necessary in order to achieve it. Though Bukichi is not a violent man by nature, he will take that route if there are no options left. He prefers to be ten steps ahead of his opponent, and will often reach out to make many connections… just in case they can be of use in the future. He’s an incredibly intelligent person, and can see opportunities in almost any situation… again, just in case.
Because he’s used to being overshadowed, those who genuinely reach out to Bukichi to try and make connections might find that the young man might become fairly attached to them. Though he would never admit such a thing to anyone, being constantly outdone by his older brother has left him quietly wondering what he’s done wrong in his life. He pushed himself to his limits, working tirelessly every day… but it was never enough. Therefore, those who approach him of their own volition--well, Bukichi silently appreciates them more than they’d ever know, and refuses to let that bond die so easily.

History: Matokichi, the leader of the Silver Fingers Thieves, had two sons. One with a mistress, and one with his legitimate wife.
Bukichi has lived a life of always being just a few steps behind his older brother. Born a mere six months after the son of his father’s mistress, Matotoka, it was no surprise the two boys spent their formative years both very close on each other’s heels, but also compared to each other constantly. What should have been a healthy rivalry quickly became more than that - a competition to prove which of the two was the better son. Unfortunately, it seemed that Matotoka always shone just a bit brighter. Still, Matokichi treated both boys fairly and made sure to instill the rules of his troupe, put in place to keep the blind eyes turned their way by those who suffered under those they would rob turned away.
Being considered merely the ‘second born son’ wouldn’t have bothered him so much if the members of his father’s troupe of thieves didn’t seem to back the suggestion that Matokichi name his illegitimate child to inherit leadership of the group. Determined to make sure this wouldn’t happen, Bukichi put his nose to the grindstone to show his father that it would be a mistake to groom anybody but his legitimate heir for the position. Unfortunately, it felt to him as though he was still left in Matotoka’s shadow. Resentment began to grow, and eventfully the two boys came to blows over what had been a friendly competition in their late teens.
Bukichi split his brother’s face open and the two were forcibly separated. The distance did little to build bridges, and every attempt made was burned down.
When he was 21 and out on a job with his father, Bukichi broke one of the rules that had been treated as absolute law - with absolute punishment - his entire life. Rather than face this judgement, his father’s disappointment, and judgement by those he’d grown up with, he fled into the night. Knowing it wouldn’t be long before someone was sent after him, he was debating his options when a Searchrider came to the Hold he had hidden in. Seeing an opportunity, he presented himself to the dragon, who quickly decided the young man needed to go to a Weyr. Inside the halls of Western, he’d be free to make his next move more safely.
Then came disaster: Thread, and Matotoka. The arrival of his brother complicated his plans, but Threadfall has made it clear that the safest place to be is perhaps on Dragonback.
Other: Bukichi ended up cornered during the job with his father, and, feeling as though he had no other options, he ended up killing a man. He was so shaken by his actions that words failed him, and he fled instead of seeking to explain himself.
