Name: Nassiva
Age: 39 Turns
Nameday: 3535:07:23
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft: Healer -- Specialized in Dragonhealing
Rank: Journeyman
Location: High Reaches Weyr
Physical Description: A small, shapely woman with thick brown hair. Her face is diamond-shaped with high cheekbones and full lips--all the better to smile and laugh with. Her hooded, violet eyes are distinct, often radiating gentle warmth, or burning with fiery passion.

Personality: With a big heart and unrelenting determination, Nassiva is not a woman who gives up or finds herself discouraged easily. Where there’s a will, there’s a way, and you’d best believe that she’s going to find it! She can be quiet and awkward with people she doesn’t know well, there is no doubt that she is an avid lover of all dragons, be they large or small. They both delight and fascinate her, and though there is a small sliver of envy in her heart that she will never be able to fully understand the bond between dragon and rider, the passing Turns have ebbed that sore spot into nothing more than a wistful memory. Instead of dreaming about something that never will be, she’d much rather focus on the present and putting her skills to use.

Though reserved with people she doesn’t know well, she can always summon up a warm smile for anyone and is happy to offer her assistance however she can. Those that take the time to get to know her will find that apprehension thaws easily enough, revealing a passionate, clever side of her that isn’t to be coy. On the opposite hand, those that earn her displeasure will find her to be clipped and quiet. She will never allow her personal feelings to influence the care she gives, of course… not that her patients are human! Nassiva definitely has a blind spot for dragons. She can accept their unpleasantness with much more grace than she can with humans. Even Nassiva can’t give a clear reason as to why that is. If asked, she’d simply say that dragons aren’t human, so it isn’t fair to hold them to human expectations of social niceties. Dragons that deign to speak with her will undoubtedly fluster a tad from the honor, and she certainly will have no lack of compliments for them. Regardless of her patients’ personalities, Nassiva loves them all, and wants to help heal them as quickly as possible so they are back in top shape.

As gentle and tender as she can be with her patients, Nassiva can unfortunately be a complete monster when it comes to their health in general… and doubly so with their riders. They insist they’re well enough to go about their daily routine? Hm. Funny, she thought she was the healer here. Riders can claim they know their own dragon/limits, and she’ll claim that she knows their bodies even better due to her experience and teaching. Just settle down, relax, and rest up. Trust her. She knows what she’s doing. Some of her repeat patients will find themselves being scolded and fussed after as though she was a mother hen. If you’d just listened to her, you wouldn’t have ended up being treated again so soon! All of Pern needs you, so stop acting like you can save the world by yourself!

Her overbearing side can quickly become critical, especially if when one tries to make excuses for why they were injured. Oh, your dragon insisted on overextending to flame that clump of Thread? What are you, a sentient tumor, or a rider? Did they even stop to think about what their loved ones would do if they died after pulling such a risky mid air maneuver? There’s no way to prevent all injury or death while fighting Thread, and she’s not a fool who thinks otherwise. However, she firmly thinks that there are ways to lessen the extent of said injuries, and won’t think twice about lecturing foolhardy men and women who take unnecessary risks. This is not to say she can’t be sympathetic; she is far less likely to give a sharp lecture to someone a person in clear distress about their dragon, or to those who are unfortunate enough to have been injured in an situation that couldn’t be avoided.

Nassiva cares deeply about her patients, and every single loss wounds her heart. During a particularly bad Fall, it isn’t uncommon to see her aggressively wiping away tears before she moves onto her next patient with gentle, firm hands. Only when her job is finished will she allow herself a private moment to mourn for those she couldn’t save, preferably alone and in private. She will always offer a shoulder to cry on or a pair of quiet ears to listen to troubles and problems, and she certainly doesn’t mind making sure to bring someone a warm cup of klah if she thinks they need it.

Positive Trait List Passionate, nurturing, empathetic
Negative Trait List Tenderhearted, critical, overbearing

History: Nassiva grew up in a large family with several siblings, and all the children were raised and expected to assist tending to the herdbeasts that were their livelihood. Her parents had carefully raised their herd into a large, self-sustaining population that was able to offered up as part of the expected tithes to High Reaches Weyr. Once she was a little older, Nassiva was allowed to accompany her father a few times to the Weyr to help manage the beasts. The sight of so many dragons of varying shades of color captured her heart, and the girl often dreamed of becoming a Candidate and Impressing a dragon of her very own when she was older.

Around twelve Turns of age, her interest in the animals of her family’s herd took a sharper focus. Nassiva wanted to learn how to do more than just care for the beasts--she wanted to learn to heal them. After some discussion, her parents agreed, and Nassiva was sent to Fort Hold to apprentice in the Healerhall. With Fort Weyr being so close by, dragons would frequently stop by for Searches. Despite her fervent hopes, she was always passed over.

Discouraged, but not defeated, the girl continued to work hard at her studies--and after learning the basics of healing, switched her specialization from beasthealing to dragonhealing. She would find a way to be close to dragons, even if they didn’t think they wanted her! She applied herself vigorously to her studies over the Turns, and became a Journeyman when she was 19. Now, her sights were set fully on the Weyrs themselves, for how else was she to continue to hone her healing skill without having actual patients? High Reaches became her home, and she continued to study and learn under older, more experienced dragonhealers. More Turns passed by until Nassiva was far too old to even hope of entertaining her dream of finding a dragon partner. Part of her was still quietly crushed by this, but the other, more reasonable part of herself chimed in that nothing had changed. She hadn’t wasted her life away on a dream. She could still work with dragons, and hopefully make an importance difference by doing so!

Life at High Reaches helped to continue to improve her healing arts, for there was never a shortage of training related injuries to treat. Some could argue that she was wasting her time learning to treat singed hides--Thread was gone, and the men and women who continued to blindly act as though it would return were fools for following old, washed out traditions. Perhaps that was true, but Nassiva wanted to see what it would have been like to help treat actual fighting dragons. As long as there were injured dragons who needed aid, she would never think of leaving.

Then came that awful day. Thread returned, once again threatening to devour all life upon Pern. Everything she ever learned was put to the test, and Nassiva worked tirelessly to try and save as many dragons as she could. She wasn’t able to save them all, and though devastated, she pushed herself to the limit to treat those who were still alive. One of her long-term patients was bronze Meigth, and she spent many sleepless nights with his rider, N’ori, coaxing him back from the brink. Meigth did eventually make a full recovery, and is now a fully fighting member of a wing once more.

Now that Thread is back in full force, Nassiva is unfortunately getting the full experience of just what it means to care for fighting dragons like the days of old. She certainly has plenty to keep her busy, throughout the day.
