User Image==Begin "Extra Chapter: Nagisa"==

With her gentle smile and pure white outfit, Kagerou stood out among the rest of the dreary scene within the makeshift medical huts set upon the ground beneath Arashigakure. Ironically, in the very place where their commander had been killed, the remnants of the Kogarashi army were being treated by Kagerou's and a few other's hands. Understandably, volunteers for this task were few and far between. Many saw the injured and crippled that lay on the cots as enemies still. Everyone else were scared that it would be dangerous. It was mostly only Kagerou, and with her attention split between several other places, she could only expend so much of her chakra here. It was embarrassing and frustrating to know that she should be feeling glad that she was even receiving supplies to attend to the injured of the loser's side. Whatever had been done, in her perspective, the war was over. Further deaths shouldn't be sought out.

Nevertheless, she tried her best down here. She had several clones working in various locations, each of them busy with one task or another. For the first time since entering Arashi, the woman that so cautiously understood she was both doctor and kunoichi, did not attempt to hide her abilities. The full extent of her expertise across the different fields, especially in the surgical field that she hadn't quite feigned but certainly hid knowledge of, was coming to light with each passing day in this encampment.

The only other place that received more of her attention was at the bedside of a dear friend. Normally, the real Kagerou would be at her bedside, so that she could time her rests with the other's sleep cycles. However, at the moment, the friend finally had the strength to go out, so instead of taking the reprieve as a chance to catch up on sleep, Kagerou had descended to the recovering forces down here to help out herself.

Her appearance didn't net much of a greeting. To begin with, it didn't feel like she had really entered. Her clones had long since been running around in this place. One would imagine that perhaps the gratitude was the silent sort that could be seen in the faces and affections of everyone. However, even that wasn't the case. Certainly, there was some of that, but there were just as many who gave the enemy, Kagerou, a stink eye even as she changed their bandages.

The clones didn't mind this treatment. Of course, Kagerou didn't care either. After only a few greetings from some of the skeleton staff she had managed to gather working at this place, Kagerou rolled up her sleeves, tied up her hair, and got straight to working with a patient who had been complaining about his leg hurting. He had been already moved to a private tent for his examination.

Maggots. The leg, everything above the knee amputated, was festering with maggots. That's why it was in pain.

Distress crossed Kagerou's features when she saw the wriggling mass, but she swiftly changed into a smile as she reassured that everything would be fine. She had little choice once the wound reached this stage. Even if she could treat this without chakra and still ensure a healthy recovery, she couldn't stand to leave a patient to simply endure this sort of torture. Her hand glowed, and with a simple sweep, the patients leg was rid of maggot's and fully healed. She could have, at this point, discharged him right that moment, but instead, to ensure that there were no other hidden issues, she issued instructions to discharge him after two days.

With a light and graceful smile, Kagerou bowed to the recovered patient, whether or not he showed gratitude, and left with a steady gait. The spinning she felt within her head or the heavy burden of exhaustion she felt when she reached into her low reserves to heal the wound were not allowed to show upon her face.

Upon the instruction of the upper eschelon and on the advice of her medical superiors, she was told to find someone of great experience to be taught the greater respects of medical kunoichi worth. Of all the potential mentors, Nagisa went for Kagerou Kiritani who could only be described as the pinnacle of beauty and grace. A legitimate model for young kunoichi throughout the entire village. In all honesty, she was nervous to be able to work this closely with someone who was so famous and renowned throughout the village. Nagisa Kanata could only dream of one day being as amazing as Kagerou. Nagisa was dressed more formally today covering herself up so as not to scare the patients aware with her assets that have been described by her peers as "the divinely distracting weapons". She wore the Arashigakure nursing attire that was provided by the hospital as reward for her training.

Cracking her knuckles and popping her neck, Nagisa approached the area where Kagerou was working and for the first time in her life, her heart somewhat sank. So many of them were hurt in this war. Is this the road all shinobi must tread? Her thoughts of their pain resounded in her and she slapped her cheeks to focus. This was not the time to feel guilt, but to do her best to reach each and every single one of those in need. As a healing shinobi. Forming three handseals, Nagisa exclaimed, "Shadow Replication Jutsu!" She split her chakra into three clones to help as she had noticed Kagerou made her own. She noticed the majority of those hurt here were not shinobi of her own village, but the enemy. Before she sent her clones out to two other tents, Nagisa approached one of the men and eyed him.

It was clear he had suffered tremendous wounds, his arms looked broken and there was bleeding throughout. His body was drenched in sweat, perhaps feverish. She stared at his neck and thought how easily it would be to snap his neck and be rid of him. In a sense, killing these poor fools would be a way to solve their pain, equal release from suffering as would healing them. "But, that's not why I'm here today. I'm here to learn." She knelled down next to him and held her hands over his body to begin using the Diagnosis jutsu. Her instincts were correct as the majority of his suffering was focused on his crushed arm. She would have to help put it into a stint to heal, as she lacked the bone healing technique.

As she began to tend to him, Nagisa sent one of her clones to Kagerou's side, the clone bowing before her. "Kiritani-sensei, I have started working on a patient here, he has broken bones, I'm doing my best to put his arm into a stint, but I can tell he is in a lot of pain. I'm not entirely sure what to do to ease his pain." The clone explained to Kagerou, continuing, "Do you need any assistance over here? Tell me what to do, Kiritani-sensei." The clone was gazing at Kagerou and the patient she was currently consoling herself. The clone watched Kagerou who seemed to be hiding something. Was she tired? The battle... Kiritani-sensei you were enduring all this on your own? Perhaps this strength was the true beauty of a kunoichi. The ability to endure and overcome exhaustion and duress and acknowledge the suffering of others. Nagisa felt she had to absorb as much as she could from this woman.

User ImageKagerou turned at the sound of the unfamiliar voice and gave a gentle response immediately, "I will go to see him shortly." She smiled, even though she didn't recognize the lively girl standing before her, and considering how few the numbers of workers down here was, she was pretty sure she would have recognized them all.

"Are you new here?" Kagerou asked rather than declared, just to be sure. Her eyes remained focused on Nagisa, sure to give her what appeared to be whole and undivided attention. However, it did not escape her notice that several copies of this girl were running around the tent. She was a fellow kunoichi and medical personnel. That made her a rare asset down here among the forgotten defeated.

After receiving Nagisa's answer, Kagerou would assure her, "Any assistance is appreciated. We're short on hands, so make sure to use her chakra appropriately. Then again, if you are here in order to learn, please let me know. For the time being, could you please take me to the patient with a broken arm?".

The clone gave her a salute and started to lead her to the original Nagisa. Once they were in eye distance, Nagisa could be seen leaning over the man, her chest squishing his face as it turned somewhat blue. She honestly had no idea what to do in order to alleviate his suffering. The medical nin had tied his broken arm to his right leg in what looked like a failed stint. To be frank, she had never worked with healing bones before and his increased cries for pain was signalling that what she was doing was not working. "Kiritani-sensei, this man he won't stop being loud. I told him, he's upsetting the other patients with his lack of consideration. Some are trying to sleep." She actually had zero idea she was the one causing this man increased stress.

As Nagisa was distracted by Kagerou's approach, a man whom was feigning his wounds nearby took out a bow and aimed an arrow towards Nagisa from behind. He would be in view of Kagerou and the clone. The arrow was loosed at on a direct flight for Nagisa's upper torso and potentially neck. The clone called out to Nagisa and yelled, "Watch out!" Turning her body to the oncoming arrow Nagisa knew she did not have the time to react to it and seeing that the arrow could potentially hit this wounded man, she kept her body still awaiting its penetration.

User ImageNagisa had no need to sacrifice herself. Kagerou, also, didn't have a chance to appear cool. At least, not in her opinion. She made an effort to keep herself low profile, after all.

Kagerou, who had just finished nodding, was alerted to the sudden sneak attacker. The suddenly bad sneak attacker. She was surprised, certainly, however, her prompt actions covered whatever surprise she might have had. Nagisa, brave girl, was ready to take the attack for the patient, a detail that wouldn't escape Kagerou, just as her ineffective treatment wouldn't escape Kagerou's notice. However, in the very last moment, Kagerou would intercept the arrow between a pair of chopsticks before it so much as grazed the budding medic.

Again, a very bad surprise attacker. Who tried to, when aiming for subtly and a sudden attack, use a bow over a simple thrown weapon? Especially at these ranges?

She preferred keeping a low profile, but she had to send this attacker a message. With a benevolent, lady-like smile, Kagerou tightened the hold her chopsticks had upon the arrow until, with a creaking and a cracking, the metal head of the weapon shattered into pieces, crushed between the wooden chopsticks. She tapped her chopsticks together twice while bringing them back to her body, and the assailant, while he was watching distracted by the clicking chopsticks and ringing bells, would find himself attacked from the behind by an identical body.

Did she also mention she needed to keep his eyes on her?

While her clone promptly neutralized the threat, Kagerou turned her eyes to Nagisa behind her. Her body, however, did not turn, ready to face another attack if it came. Around her, if Nagisa took the time to notice, she would see that the medical personnel had scattered, and each stood next to an identical body, another clone. This was not the first time such and incident happened. However, the frequency or infrequency of such occurrences wasn't Kagerou's big interest right now.

"You should begin," Kagerou started to instruct Nagisa as if nothing had happened in the last few seconds, "by taking heed of where your body is in relation to the patient. I believe your assets, soft as they are, might have been restricting the patient's airflow." That was all that entire exchange took. Only a few seconds.

A sickening crunch could be heard from the back as the errant soldier continued to struggle. What had been screams and curses was punctuated by a shrill, pain-filled shriek. After that, it was only moans and whimpers.

Kagerou's gaze shifted, turning back at this new set of noises. Her ever-gentle smile didn't waver, however, and it gave her the illusion of indifference, despite the concern she felt. Or perhaps the reality was indifference and the illusion concern. No, she was certain the former was the case. These days had been so tiring, she was beginning to confuse herself. That was simply it.

The clone that had been restraining the assailant had a more natural set of expressions. Like the original Kagerou, they never stopped smiling, but they went from a coaxing smile, to an "oops, I dun it" smile, and finally to a very apologetic and sheepish smile when they saw their results being verified. Strategically placed needles could be seen poking out of the now whimpering enemy's body, and his arm had been twisted and dislocated into what looked like a very painful position.

Kagerou didn't spend too long looking. The rest would be simple. The enemy would be laid to rest, not the euphemism but actually rest on a cot, and treated like the rest of the injured after he was checked for any additional weapons or threats. She returned to talking to Nagisa, "And your stint placement is also causing a lot of the pain. Normally, you don't try to stretch the limb you are breaking..." This time, she did not just talk, she acted on her own words.

With gentle and careful touches, Kagerou manually undid the stint Nagisa created and redid the placement of the arm. Her voice, when she asked the patient to bear with the pain for a short while or let him know what she would do, bore a soothing, melodic tone. It wasn't all easy-going. There were short, gargled shouts of pain, screamed behind a mouthpiece that kept the patient from accidentally biting his tongue. However, despite the pain it took to get there, by the time she was done, he looked much better for it.

To note, Kagerou also demonstrated how Nagisa should stand around the patient. Her breasts were bound right now, so she didn't have to worry about them, but nevertheless, she steered clear of standing anywhere that might place her chest above the patient's face just to show Nagisa that it was possible.

By the time she was done, the man wasn't screaming for oxygen at least, the only noises he made were the occasional moan that he couldn't hide behind his brave front. "We're running low on anesthetic," Kagerou explained, "I'm not sure if you're able to use eiseijutsu or not. However, it's always good to know traditional, non-chakra methods for situations with high volume and low hands like now." As she pulled out another set of senbon, the man in front of her visibly shivered, eyes involuntarily looking over at his foolish, fallen comrade. He didn't need to worry, however. Kagerou inserted only two senbons into specific acupuncture points, and suddenly, his moaning stopped. The pain was gone, for now.

Kawadzuri [River Fishing]
Rank: X :: Simple
Description: Opening the pair of chopsticks the user waits patiently for an oncoming physical strike. Once the attack grows close enough and enters the user's range of motion the user will snap the chopsticks shut on the oncoming attack. In the case of weapons, this leads into an immediate disarming attempt [Stamina = to the technique must be spent to resist the disarm less an anchoring technique is in place], in the case of people this technique leads into an immediate throwing of the individual either over the users head or into the ground powerfully enough to knock the wind out of someone. If catching a projectile the projectile may be immediately returned by paying an amount of stamina to correlate with its strength. ((Ineffective against Ninjutsu))

Nagisa did not think for one moment that Kagerou would not have been able to handle the man with the bow. She was at work right now; work and training so she could become a more capable and universal healer for the village at large. However, Nagisa was not expecting Kagerou to utilize chopsticks to catch an arrow. Once again, Kagerou revealed just how vast the gap between Nagisa and her was right now. Could I be as strong as her one day? Nagisa thought to herself, Could I be as beautiful as her, a paragon of beauty, kindness, and grace? If Evergreen was a real intimidating goddess that existed in another plane and this realm, then Kagerou was even more intimidating living goddess just within arm's reach.

Her face reddened deeply as Kagerou pointed out that Nagisa's careless leaning was suffocating the man she was attempting to help. It did not occur to her that he was even a man, and that made her face redden deeper. Only senpai should be able to be so close to her chest, and she felt a guilty internal struggle now. Perhaps this man needs to die, so she could remain pure and untouched. However, things were different. Nagisa had to focus. Slapping her cheeks and getting out of her mental distraction she took heed of every statement Kagerou made. At this point, the man had been completely taken out by Kagerou's superior clone. A feat in itself, noteworthy, that Kagerou need not even directly be involved in kicking someone's a**.

Paying attention to the careful and professional stintwork, Nagisa began to realize that she was indeed perhaps relying far too much on her chakra to do all of her healing. There was a physical labor aspect to medicine and medical jutsu that she needed to be more wary of. "Forgive me Kiritani-sensei, I still have a lot to learn. I guess I've been too complacent... arrogant lately. I thought I could save everyone, but I can't even protect myself." One of the major rules and secrets of a medical kunoichi was being able to not get hurt or caught. They had to prioritize their own safety otherwise no one could heal anyone. Nagisa took note of Kagerou's special usage of senbon, a combat tool she did not have in her arsenal. The fact it could be used to relieve pain was very intriguing.

Looking around, Nagisa explained, "On the other side of the field I think I saw some medical supplies. I'll run over there and see if there's any extra anesthetics. I'm going to try and slow down and do what I can do for now." She bowed before Kagerou and carefully dashed around the cots with patients laying down as well as avoided bumping into people. It would take a few minutes to get over there and even more time to come back. While this occurred, she kept note of the lack of man power they had and the massive number of victims of the war. Sure this was practical training and experience, but was so much suffering truly necessary? Nagisa's two clones had been doing basic working bandaging and holding tools for more honed and practiced shinobi.

User ImageKagerou nodded and left Nagisa leave. After seeing her back run off, she turned to one of the passing medical assistants. "All the anesthetics are properly locked away, correct?" she asked, giving a smile that assured she wasn't, by any means, accusing anyone with the question.

Quite comfortably, the MA easily replied with a nod and "En. They're in the temperature-controlled pharmacy cabinet with the rest of the drugs. Does this patient require some?".

Kagerou silently shook her head in a negative at the last question. "No. The red haired girl just now was just running off to get some."

"... She won't be able to get any out."

"Mm."

"Shouldn't we stop her?""

"Mm."

"Kiritani senpai?"

"Her temperament worries me... It might seem unfair, but I'm going to wait to see if she does anything questionable," Kagerou answered as she began to walk after Nagisa.

The MA trotted after, following behind so that he could get one last message out. Looking sideways at the slightly shorter woman, he clarified, "We don't have a lot left. They're to be used only in the most necessary cases, or as per your instructions, to ease the final moments of a passing patient."

"Mm," Kagerou nodded calmly with the same one-syllable hum of assent as before. She looked at the medical assistant to her side, expressive eyes letting him know that he should go now, either to assist another patient or to take a break.

Bells held within her hands to silence them, Kagerou tread without making a sound and hopefully without catching Nagisa's attention [•Mokuhi [ Keep Silent ] S :: Training]. She held back and with a simple henge disguised herself as one of the several medical assistants so that she could blend in with the crowd. The patients, of course, saw the creation of this disguise, but a raise of a finger to her lips quieted them down. Kagerou proceeded to tend to those patients around her, eyes focused down on them but keeping Nagisa in her peripheral vision.

Nagisa would find the medical supplies she had located were locked in a metal cabinet powered by some sort of contraption or other. In short, a portable refrigerator/freezer. Attempts to open it like a civilized person would, of course, fail.

As she approached the cabinet, Nagisa immediately saw it was locked. She crossed her arms studying it for a moment for possible solutions to said problem. She could attempt to find someone with a key, but that would take time. Nagisa could attempt to pry it open with brute force in a barbaric manner. Nonetheless, her hands were tied because it would be rather stupid of her to return with nothing at all. She realized it was being held down carefully perhaps to ensure it wasn't moved by tremors in the earth or something. "Hi, I came over here to get some extra anesthetics for Kiritani-sensei. I like to be of use and right now this is one of those things that I can do." She earnestly explained her need for access to this cabinet.

It did not occur to Nagisa that perhaps she needed a higher ranking position or if there would be some other circumstance stopping her from taking the anesthetics. Naturally, she would accept whatever was in store as a response, as she was merely a genin and learning the process. She was not about to go back to her days in the academy where she used her fists to do her talking first. She was not a brute without intellect, but rather a beautiful untempered blade that was sharpening herself. All she needed was the astute craftsmanship and sculpting skills of a sensei like Kiritani to bring out Nagisa's inner capabilities and talents.

User ImageThe pharmacy tech in charge of watching over the pharmacy had been watching the new face since she arrived, wondering what she was doing here. Black hair and eyes behind clean glasses. He wasn't surprised to see her walk to him after noticing. "Unfortunately, because we are running low on anesthetics, only certain personnel may request it. None of us are happy with the shortage or having to watch the patients be in pain just because we don't get enough anesthetics down here, but I hope you understand that we have to ration it for the most serious cases. Do you perhaps have a prescription written by the head nurse or a doctor?" he answered to the best of his abilities, frowning slightly at the inability to help Nagisa. Since it didn't look she had either, he added to try and be helpful, "If not, I'd suggest asking them first. They could either give you a prescription, or they might have alternate methods of reducing the pain. Again, sorry, but this is Dr. Kiritani's orders..."

As Nagisa stated in her previous post, she wouldn't throw up a fuss over this matter. Kagerou was understanding. She would understand if Nagisa expressed frustration or disagreement. However, so long as she didn't physically confront the pharmacy tech and kept some modicum of cool, then the girl would have passed her test. Moving from the patient to, once again, walking somewhere through Nagisa's back in the spot that was most certainly a blind spot, she released her transformation.

Bells gently began ringing again. They came from behind Nagisa, and if she turned to look, she would Kagerou approaching with a graceful smile. "Ah, Sen, you've explained to Nagisa about our anesthetic dilemma?" Kagerou asked the pharmacy tech as if she had just arrived.

Sen was just a civilian, not a trained shinobi. He obviously hadn't been paying attention to the several people bustling back and forth behind Nagisa. "Um. En!" he started. Kagerou's bells had clearly heralded her approach, but he looked suddenly nervous upon being addressed by the head of the hospital. No matter that her clones were hear everyday. It was something he just couldn't get used to.

"Sen..." Kagerou smiled with second-hand embarrassment, "We've known each other for basically a year already... I'm still the same person you screamed at for forgetting Arashigakure's pharmacy protocol."

"Y-yes!" apparently, the new rank Kagerou had achieved with the hospital continued to make him uneasy. However, he still managed to maintain a professional discussion, "Dr. Kiritani. By the way, this... new..." It fell apart only because he suddenly realized that he didn't know who or what Nagisa was.

Smiling ruefully, Kagerou shrugged and gave up for the moment, "Well, thank you for now, and yes. This is a new face. She is a medical kunoichi who's just been stationed here. I can't introduce her myself since I havent' even gotten her name, but please treat her well, nonetheless. Yes, I know she came for anesthetics. It's unfortunate, but we will have to go without for this patient."

"Understood."

"Then later, I'll take the new girl with me."

Kagerou waved goodbye to Sen and wrapped an arm around Nagisa's shoulder. Leading Nagisa by the shoulders, she walked away from the pharmacy. "You never did introduce yourself to me," Kagerou brought up the mystery of Nagisa's name once again, "I hope my guess that you were a kunoichi with some experience in eiseijutsu wasn't wrong, but why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself? Or... am I going to have to find a way to find out myself?". Very obviously, the last line was a joke. Kagerou was just trying to tease Nagisa.

If Nagisa showed the slightest sign of discomfort at having Kagerou's arm around her shoulder, then Kagerou would immediately remove the annoyance. Otherwise, Kagerou never minded and quite enjoyed physical contact. She had always been a hugging person and she could get so much information by just touching someone. Nodding as the man told her that she could not receive the anesthetics, she looked down and let out a little sigh. She did not want to disappoint her new teacher. "Forgive me, I'm really new to all of this. That's really unfortunate. I'm currently only a genin and I lack any such certification to request this. I came over here because Kiritani-sensei mentioned she had a patient that would need some." Suddenly, Nagisa felt a warm and soft feeling surround her shoulder as she was lead away by Kagerou. Red in the face, as Kagerou reminded Nagisa of a clear failure on her part to introduce herself. Of course a title-less kunoichi that was a mere genin would be someone Kagerou didn't know.

"I- I'm Nagisa. Nagisa Kanata... You don't know me. But, I know you, Lady Kiritani-sensei." She looked away for a moment, recalling her past that lead up to this point. Where Kagerou would likely not remember being a stunning hero as it was a singular point in time, Nagisa would never forget that day. Staring off into space, Nagisa's memory came into focus it was about five or six years prior when her mother Myara Kanata, whom had the same hazel eyes as Nagisa, but raven black hair. Nagisa had inherited her hair from her father whom disappeared a year prior to that. Nagisa could never forget the words he said the night he left, "I have an important job to do, so I can't take you to the beach tomorrow. But, maybe when I get back we can go on a trip or something to make up for it." He never returned, a betrayal act in a child's eyes, that her mother conjured an explanation that he had just been on a very long mission.

Miyamoto Kanata, a man who was angry with the situation that had been exploding in Kirigakure, sided against the government with the rebels. He believed that he would be one of the men to enact swift change. Naturally, in the early stage of the rebellion he died from engaging superior shinobi and though his skill with water style was unmatched, he was defeated by someone better, drowning beneath the depths, never returning from his big mission to his wife and daughter. Nagisa's mother would make up more and more excuses varying from "He is very sick and at a special hospital receiving expert care" to "He will be home soon, just wait a little longer, he's getting a big promotion". But, Nagisa was never swayed by her words and believed that something darker had occurred.

Eventually the Mizukage had declared that the people had to move. And when Myara attempted to convince Nagisa about their move, it had a reverse-effect. "You lied! We were supposed to wait for him! For father. Why are we leaving if he's coming back?!" As her fiery nature exploded in a young nine year old's heart, she pushed her mother down and found herself running away. Perhaps in someways, Nagisa had still been running away, even now trying to find what she had lost in time. As she ran having been distracted by dodging the various families that were leaving, she found herself at the edge of a cliff that overhang a steep fall. Her life flashing, Nagisa felt perhaps it was better this way. Somehow, this was closer to being to her father than leaving him in Kirigakure.

As she fell forward, somewhat caught her shirt and she hung over the edge. "Oh thank heavens! You saved my daughter." Myara Kanata exclaimed, rushing over by a younger Kagerou's side. Kagerou would be pulling Nagisa back over the edge and to safety. Seeing as she was very busy helping whoever needed aid, Kagerou would have bowed and been on her way. Tears in Nagisa's eyes out of anger and frustration, she watched Kagerou make her way to helping others. "Who was she?" Was the question Nagisa had pondered for sometime as she made her settling into Arashigakure. It was a month after they had moved in and had their new home that Nagisa discovered from a neighbor that her name was Lady Kiritani and a great medical kunoichi, formerly a student to the Mizukage, and one of the most powerful chunin around. The only thought that crossed her young mind back then was becoming like her. I will be like her.

Upon that change in perspective, Nagisa pressured her mom into letting her take courses at the academy alongside Ashura Ise, her childhood friend. Myara Kanata was skeptical, she felt Nagisa should just help her at the flower store they worked in and stop this nonsensical desire to become a kunoichi. No woman in their family had done it before. But, Nagisa fought her mother, "You wouldn't tell me the truth about father, and now you won't let me become like her. Do you hate me, mother? Am I such a reminder of him, that you couldn't let go?" Her mother cried, shame revealing so much of their family's secret. It was clear at some point, Nagisa had figured it out herself. Why so many other families had their father in the unit alive and her father was no where to be found. He died somewhere back there. Died and was forgotten, where his tombstone lay, she may never know, but she always knew in her heart that something was wrong.

Nagisa moved in front of Kagerou and her eyes peered into Kagerou's as she asked, "Back then, why did you catch me at that cliff? You had other people you could have been healing. Other people you could save. I was just some random girl." Nagisa did not explain what this was in reference to. She figured Kagerou would not remember such a small instance back then, but it had a profound effect on Nagisa's life. And to this day, she always wanted to thank her. She never had the chance to thank her for saving - changing her life for the better. "You are the reason I am here today you know - you saved my life, Lady Kiritani. I owe you everything." She fell to her knees before this paragon of medical mastery and she bowed her head.

User Image"Ah," was Kagerou's only reaction to hearing that Nagisa knew her. She had been caught completely off-guard. Surprise was a simple emotion to hide, but as Kagerou saw no need to hide it now, her eyes moved back and forth in a relaxed manner as she tried to remember anyone by the name of Nagisa Kanata. No memory, but she could see why she might be remembered.

Kagerou didn't like bringing light to it, but she admitted she was a somewhat well known figure in Kirigakure. Even in Arashigakure, where she kept a low profile, a good number of the common folk still remembered just from speaking with her everyday. Combine her amiability with a drive to succeed in the hospital, parents who each had their own circles, and most of all a teacher who was the Mizukage even for a short term. It meant quite a few kiri nin knew about a Kagerou with green hair and red eyes.

It was only when Nagias asked why Kagerou had caught her that Kagerou got a few clues to find the right puzzle pieces. However, she still had to line them up. Suffice, to say, she still couldn't quite remember, but she could guess everything from there. Her eyes no longer looking like they were searching for an answer in her memories, Kagerou's pupils aligned themselves to Nagisa's.

Ah, too late. Before Kagerou could say anything out of her just-opened mouth, Nagisa's head suddenly dropped out of her view. Next thing Kagerou knew, she had a young girl at her feet.

Oro?

Nani?

I'm not saying this is bad or anything, but please get up?

Kagerou smiled in a surprised fashion, her smile frozen at a slightly off angle and her eyes wide. Then, she crouched down to Nagisa's level and gently tapped up on her shoulders to try and get up while she reasoned, "Nagisa. Nagisa, I'm very happy to hear that, after I saved you, you've lived your life so well... No, actually. I don't think you'll really ever know how much that means to me right now. However, you don't need to bow. Please stand up. If you feel like you need to pay me back, then stand up and hear me out." Her voice gently coaxed as her hands reached out to gently encourage Nagisa up. When she managed to get Nagisa to sit up, Kagerou thoughtlessly praised her good behavior with a few pats on the head before trying to get her the rest of the way up.

This girl, she was a little strange, but still cute overall. Kagerou still had her fears regarding this child's over-eagerness, but her manners demonstrated beforehand inclined her to believe that it was energy that could be redirected for good. [30 sentences; Bonds]

As Nagisa stood up a twinkling in her eyes became clear staring at Kagerou. "I tried to find you when my mother brought us here. But, they told me you were so busy. And it was too dangerous for a little girl. You're why I joined the academy, against everything my mother told me." Looking away from her as she realized she was about to say something extremely embarrassing, but nonetheless the center of courage was necessary. "I always wanted to tell you that you're the reason I wanted to pursue medicine and help people." A half-giggle formed as some tears began to come at her eyelids. "My mother hates you for taking me away from her flower shop..." This was one of those moments where a fan who has always wanted to talk to their idol had come true. While earlier it seemed she was fully concentrated and without distraction, Nagisa was resisting so much temptation to talk to Kagerou on a more equal plane.

She started to cry a little more thinking to how much training she went through. All of the doubt her mother would wring in her ears, all of the times she had to spend watching out for Ashura, because contrary to their relationship Nagisa, while younger, was more of a big sister to him than anything else. "I don't know when or how I got here, but I made it, Lady Kiritani." Naturally, Nagisa wanted to wipe her tears away and look stronger in front of her, but for some reason she was compelled to some abstract vulnerability. What was it that she wanted? A hug? Was she even worthy of something so warm from this person she's come to admire for years. Even if the other medical staff were staring them down, especially in such an embarrassing moment Nagisa did not care right now. All she wanted to hear is what Kagerou was going to tell her, as if it were the secret to infinity or salvation to every lost soul.

User ImageFirst brought here? Busy? Rather than busy, Kagerou figured the hospital reception probably didn't have any other excuse to give to the girl. Kagerou wasn't even registered in Arashigakure at the time when Nagisa was brought to Arashi, which, if Kagerou was lining up all the times correctly, should have been shortly after Kirigakure was forced to close down by its daimyo.

However, that wasn't important. What was important was that Nagisa had begun to cry in front of Kagerou. Cry and open up her heart. It wasn't the most appropriate place. They were literally surrounded by reasons why their minds should be distracted from painful memories like the ones Nagisa had begun opening up to Kagerou about. However, emotions never followed reason. If now was the time and place when Nagisa's pent up feelings were coming to a catharsis, then it was the time and place.

Carefully, without saying a word at first, Kagerou indulged Nagisa's honest feelings with a gentle hug, wrapping her arms around the head and shoulders, and pulling her towards Kagerou. She kept her close throughout the hug, not even a millimete of space between the two pressed bodies, but only the softest of pressures could be felt, as if to say "come to me, but go if you'd like." Soothing pats could be rhythmically felt atop Nagisa's head.

A warm, soothing voice would flow over Nagisa as Kagerou finally spoke up to comfort her, "It must have been hard. You did well." Briefly, Kagerou pulled away from Nagisa, but only briefly before she pulled Nagisa back towards her at a slightly different angle, knocking her forehead against her's as she delivered the finishing line, "I'm proud of you."

Warm red eyes stared into wet red eyes. This would have been the perfect fairy tale ending for the fan, no doubt. Except, Kagerou couldn't deceive Nagisa. For this long, Nagisa had run towards a distant star without looking back. She had seen one war, and though she appeared unaffected by it, Kagerou couldn't not help but worry.

After a pause that took no longer than a breath, Kagerou asked, "but are you sure?" with a smile that besought Nagisa to think carefully, "I will take you on as a student, or something like a student, even if it is only for the final leg of your growth. It is only natural to do so after my cute kouhai's confession. However." There was no pause. There wasn't the slightest hiccup in the words. As smooth as oil, Kagerou's voice shifted, from warm with concern to an alluringly cold whisper that only Nagisa would be able to hear. "A kunoichi, even of the medical sort, will find themselves in positions where they must kill. Are you ready for that?".

Sure, it wasn't fair. Everything about the way Kagerou phrased that question wasn't fair. Her ideal answer was one side, but she showed another side that encouraged a certain other kind of answer. However, what she did was only a little bit unfair compared to every other situation Nagisa would need to face in the future if she continued down this path and held onto the beliefs she emulated from Kagerou. This small trick to prove her mettle didn't even hold a candle to those tribulations. [37 sentences; Bonds]

Her face reddened deeply as Kagerou embraced her. This is the hug she always wanted. She worked so hard to be in this moment and yet it was so surreal. Being accepted as her student was a dream realized, until Kagerou proceeded to ask Nagisa a moral question regarding whether she could kill. Leaning back out of her arms she had a look of pause and deep thought. There have been times where she had been angry and upset and wanting others to hurt, but had Nagisa ever desired death upon someone else. The totality of the end where their history was finished as their eyes closed and they were dropped below the ground.

As she turned to Kagerou, her arms crossed and she explained, "We were told that this job is dangerous in the academy. That sometimes missions do not go the way we want them to. People get hurt. And I suppose, people will die. It is an inevitability in an existence that is linear. Perhaps the result of fate or coincidentally being in the wrong place at the wrong time." She walked back and forth thinking about what she would do. "It would depend on the situation and the circumstances involved. If I am with friends or someone I love deeply, to ensure their survival, then yes. Without remorse. I will accept the burden of taking a life to save lives. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one."

And she then began to think deeper on the issue. What if it was her by herself on an assigned mission? What if a foe stood in her way and refused to back down. There was so many what-ifs. She did not want to disappoint Kagerou with her answer. "When the lights are down and no one else is around, if I have a mission that I must complete... We have to be able to be decisive, Lady Kiritani-sensei. And if they are stopping me and every means to neutralize them into leaving or immobilizing them fails, then I will have no other choice. To save every single life is a child's dream. There's a point where we have to wake up from it. So yes, I would kill if I need to. Especially for others, after all I exist solely for others; I always have."

This thought of killing brought Nagisa back to her past once more. She wondered if her father had the power to do it. For his beliefs? For his village? She knew her mother was more than complacent and happy being in her flower shop and lacked the moxie to do it. But, Nagisa was never going to be like her. She was weak; she was afraid. Nagisa would never be like her pathetic mother who tried to stop her from achieving her dreams. Her hand turned into a fist as she clenched it at held it out towards Kagerou. "For many years, I was but a prisoner following the chains of fate that had fettered my mind. I was unable to make my own decisions in a life that was decided for me by people who would see me fail. But, today I have broken free. On this day, I swear this oath to you Lady Kiritani-sensei: I am a healer of the sick and wounded; but even before that I am a weapon to protect the weak. "
