Name: W'ren (formerly Wayalren)
Age: 21
Nameday: 3554.09.27
Sex: male
Sexual Orientation: prefers the boyos
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: n/a

Physical Description: W'ren stands around 6' tall, lean and whippy in build; he moves with great determination, as if he has somewhere important he has to be. He has a round baby face with a sharply pointed, slightly upturned nose, almond shaped brown-green hazel eyes, and choppy shoulder length black hair with fringe that annoyingly flops into his eyes constantly. His skin is pale and clear since leaving Monaco Bay Weyr. He rarely smiles, but when he does, it's bright and usually happy. Usually. Unless it's vicious.

Something of a clothes horse, he has a collection of warm coats and jackets that he almost always wears except during the brief, hot summer. His usual outfit is a shirt, sometimes with the sleeves rolled up, and sometimes a vest, along with close-fitting leather trousers and boots. Most everything he owns is black.

Personality:
W'ren is like the irresistible force and the immovable object rolled into one. Strong-willed and obstinate, once he sets his mind on something, woe betide anyone who tries to dissuade him or get in his way. He believes he knows what is best for him and will not listen to anyone who tries to convince him otherwise. W'ren is one of those people who just won't ask for help, no matter how much he may need it. Stubbornly proud of his own abilities, he feels he can take care of anything that might come up in his life. He's not disobedient to his superiors by any stretch, but he is definitely no shrinking violet and will challenge them if he feels they're wrong. This has earned him reprimands from his wingleader, not that he cares. In his heart of hearts, he knows he's right.

This guy is very good at reading people, often picking up on the little "tells" people give away with their emotional responses to a situation. He is also good at reading situations in general; he can see both the big picture and the smallest details of a given scenario, and has a natural knack for tactics and strategy as a result. W'ren is a brave, fearless young man, not afraid of anyone or anything. When faced with conflict he won't back down, preferring to face the source of the conflict and work it through one way or another. He doesn't wilt in the face of adversity of any type, either physical or psychological or emotional. Fistfights with other wingriders are not uncommon events with W'ren.

Regardless of whether he is tackling problems in his life, fighting Thread, engaged in an actual fistfight, or whatever, W'ren is a born warrior. Competitive and ruthless, he gives no quarter and asks none. Sometimes though he is too aggressive, bulling through a situation with much more force than is really called for under the circumstances. You'd think he'd have ended up Impressing a bronze by the way he acts sometimes, but he adores his blue Obuth and won't hold with anyone insulting him or his dragon in any way, despite knowing his place in the colorist hierarchy of High Reaches.

Positive Trait List perceptive, courageous, warrior, natural tactician
Negative Trait List stubborn, arrogant, egotistical, combative

History:
Wayalren was born the son of a brownrider, Wayen, and a greenrider, Alra, at Monaco Bay Weyr. Raised mostly in the creche, he was a hellion as a kid, constantly getting into scraps with the other weyrbrats. He started standing for clutches as soon as he was of age, and Impressed blue Obuth in 3569 at his first go. Once graduated from the minimal training Monaco Bay provided, the pair spent most of their time flying shuttles for folks from the Northern Continent who wanted to visit the Southern tropics. It was pretty boring, but at least he and Obuth were flying together.

When Thread returned in 3572, W'ren and Obuth transferred to Fort Weyr to learn how to fight Thread, using the logic that Fort was the first Weyr and would know best. Fort, however, was scrambling to rebuild, and despite the welcome addition to their numbers, he was transferred to High Reaches Weyr in 3573 simply because they didn't want to deal with the strong-minded, attitude-prone teen any longer. Let him be High Reaches' problem.

And at High Reaches he remains. Eventually he would like to go back to Monaco Bay Weyr, but he's in no hurry. The discipline of High Reaches, he feels, is good for him and Obuth.

Other: He has a pretty green firelizard named Mossy who should be named "Bossy" because she is.

DRAGON
Name: Obuth
Age: 6, shelled 3569.08.28 from Rozoleth x Innuith's clutch at Monaco Bay Weyr
Color: blue
Size: 33'
Physical Description: a deep indigo blue dragon, nearly as big as some browns but sleek and skinny, with markings on his wings that look like a night sky. A fast, agile flyer with excellent stamina for a blue.

Personality: One would think Obuth was a bronze instead of a blue by his attitude, even though he's fully aware of where he stands in the pecking order of things. Bold and fearless, this blue will take on all of Pern with determination and the knowledge that His will back him up in all things. He has a steadying influence on his rider, calming W'ren's more aggressive tendencies with a gentle thought and preventing him from getting into trouble with his wingleader or anyone else in a position of authority. Obuth loves the chase of a mating flight more than the catch, though he does enjoy winning. When fighting Thread, Obuth flies and flames with all his hearts -- it's what he was born to do, and he does it with great enthusiasm.

W'ren is a great character! He is, however, currently without flaws. I would love to see some of his negative sides built out a little more. Right now he definitely reads like the hero of a Pern novel, which is great-terrible (I mean this in the best way possible.) Lots of potential here and looking forward to seeing a bit more in the way of 'why don't we like W'ren'.

I made his flaws more flaw-y -- when you get a chance! ^__^

This is nitpicky, but for an important reason. Can you add some doubt into the line: "picking up on all of the little "tells" people give away"? For example, "usually very good at reading people" or "often picking up on the little 'tells'"?

Otherwise he does look good to me. I just can't approve an absolute. XD I know that as a player you would not use his powers for evil.
