Name: C'mric (Cormeric)
Age: 22
Nameday: 3553.07.02
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wi'rider
Previous Rank/Craft: Apprentice Healer

Physical Description: C'mric is a big lad, and might even get brarder if not taller. Not that he needs more height, standing almost 6'5" as he already does. Not a bad looking boy, all around, if not destined to stop onlookers or make girls swoon at first sight. His jaw is square, his nose just a little crooked from too much enthusiastic roughhousing with his siblings, his eyes are a warm amber-brown, and his hair so dark brown it's nearly black, kept short and tidy.

Personality: First and foremost, C'mric has a stutter. He has worked his whole life to overcome it. Fear, excitement, and embarrassment make it more apparent, but in casual conversation he only trips over the occasional word. As a result, he speaks very deliberately and takes care with complicated words. He doesn't always get a joke right away, either. He's not slow or stupid, though some have called him that, but he has no great wit. He will not be trading barbs with sharp minds unless they're feeling generous and give him time to think. He does, though, have a laugh that can be heard from quite a distance away. It can be startling. It's certainly recognizable.

He is sturdy and steadfast. He's not a daredevil or a risk taker, though he does occasionally accept a dare that might push the boundaries of common sense. He's not good with sudden personal change, though. Oh sure, if it's someone else caught off guard, or if he knows it's coming, he can handle it well, but surprises sprung on him directly either confound him or frustrate him, which leads to him going tight-jawed and broody, a complete retreat inside himself until he works out how should and is meant to react. This is something he is working hard to overcome, but he's not there yet.

He is a champion of the underdog. Not that he seeks out those in need of protecting or those who seem weaker than the rest. He is simply there as quiet backup in an unfair fight, or there to offer a hand (or a shoulder) when those who struggle could use a little lift. He has a very clear personal sense of what is fair and just and he wants to keep his world as balanced as he can. He won't provoke a fight if he can help it, but he can hold his own when push comes to shove.

He is aware of the fact that the last thing people think of when they look at him is 'healer'. Does it bother him to be judged and dismissed? Yes, sometimes, but he also truly enjoys seeing disbelief turn into genuine happiness and relief.

Positive Trait List Fair. Reliable. Hard-working.
Negative Trait List Self-conscious. Resistent to change. Slow of wit (not dim-witted).

History: Cormeric was born at High Reaches and raised in the creche. He knows who his parents are and he knows which of the other children he grew up with are actually related to him, but that didn't matter much when all was said and done. He considered many of the other children his brohers and sisters despite the fact that they had no blood in common. It was just easier that way.

Though he started off as one of the smallest boys and his stutter made some discount him out of hand, it soon became apparent that he wouldn't always be the runt, so to speak. He was therefore taught, early on, to be mindful of his size and his potential strength. As he grew, he also learned to use his strength to best advantage when it was needed, so he was sometimes called on to help restrain an injured man or even beast.

He discovered, then, that helping others, particularly in a crisis, helped him think on his feet. That combined with a curiosity about the way the healers worked led to him asking to be allowed to study as a somewhat unofficial apprentice to a healer in the weyr. Until he learned how to think critically without adrenaline to fuel him, he was warned he'd have no place at Healer hall, but he didn't object. He was content to stay in High Reaches, learning what he could.

And of course, he had his eye on the dragons. He saw himself in them, in a manner of speaking. Big and yet graceful, imposing and desired. He watched some of his "family" take to the Sands, so when the question came about whether he would take his turn with the next clutch, he cheerfully agreed and took his place among new classmates.

It was, perhaps, the best thing that ever happened to the boy. Oh, he excelled at chores and didn't mind doing the work. That part hadn't ever really been in question. There were some, however, who doubted whether he would be able to keep up with lessons, whether he could pick up on the little social and behavioral clues that might make him more attractive to a dragon, but little by little, he began to come out of his shell and learn how to anticipate where a conversation might go. When to tell a joke. Who could be trusted with a secret.

Whether Orthoth would have found him without that enforced practice is a question that can never be answered. An answer wouldn't change their fate. The big bronze found his lifemate at his Hatching and the world has been better for them both, ever since. The world is a little less full of mystery and in those moments when the rider struggles with how to make his points, the dragon is there to back him up. As it should be.

Other: Anything else you want to add?

DRAGON
Name: Orthoth
Age: 6
Color: Bronze
Size: 44'

Physical Description: Orthoth is a large bronze, a powerhouse of a dragon. Like his rider, he sometimes forgets just how large he is and can get himself in a little trouble. He's evenly proportioned. It's just that the proportions are big. He may not have of the richer tones some other bronzes have, but let him catch the light at just the right angle and he'll shine like a copper buckle for all of Pren to see.

Personality: Orthoth is loud, both physically and mentally. He never speaks in anything less than above-average-volume and his vocalizations-- bugles, trills and even hums-- will be nothing short of deafening. His jovial nature and bold, brash way of interacting with others makes him quite the life of the party, if by "life of the party" you mean the most noticeable one there. He'll bound right up to meet you, introduce himself and be all too happy to tell you a story to make you feel at ease. Actually, that amiability and volume can often get in the way of Orthoth's work as well as his socializing. After all, it's hard to hear instructions if you're bugling over your excitement for the task or to befriend someone when they can't make themselves heard over you.

Orthoth just loves to be part of the conversation, because everyone in the Weyr-- unless they prove otherwise-- is his friend, his ally, his stalwart companion-- second place only to His, of course. He loves to hear what another dragon has to say-- at least the start of it-- and offer his own feedback and advice on the subject. It's the stereotypical Bronze posturing with none of the arrogance behind it. Why, Orthoth isn't 'in charge' per say-- he's just trying to help you out, good buddy! Here, he'll even lend a hand! He's always happy to be doing something for or with other people, but he doesn't always recognize that he may not be the dragon for the job. More than once will Orthoth brush off warnings about his size or disposition and get himself in trouble for it, though after the initial disappointment that he's let people down he'll be sunshine and flowers again.

That sheer caring for others lends itself to other aspects of how he views the world as well. He's a stolid ally to those who deserve it, but he's equally dangerous to those who don't. Orthoth won't stand for bullying or any of the other tricks some dragons and humans employ to create compliance in others. As with anything, he's likely to be the one speaking up for the victim, suggesting that the bully just move along. This Bronze adapts easily to changes, be they small or large, and is more than accepting of anyone's quirks.

Orthoth has trouble understanding humor sometimes, and it may sometimes take him longer than average to puzzle out the punchline of a joke or the irony in an ironic comment, but he responds enthusiastically once he understands, sometimes to the point of being a bit too enthusiastic. Whether he understands immediately or it takes him awhile, expect guffaws and over-enthused congratulations of the teller's delivery, wit, and the joke overall.
