Solo MIT Mission

Three Years Ago, A task given by the Clan Elders of the Ibis village to escort a wagon to a neighboring town for aid and medicine. Along the mountain pass roads, it was rare for goods to be pillaged from cargo wagons this close to the stronghold, the escort was a means of a formality. After his official training, it was a means of a test for Luo to be trusted with official clan affairs. It was meant to be a way for the young man to acclimate himself to the world outside the village, but things never go the way they were intended to.

The crows filled the sky, flying freely down the mountain as the lone transport made its way down the winding path. The shipment was running late, yet had the necessities the neighboring town at the base of the mountain would need. An act of generosity from the Saimoto up in their mountain stronghold, it was a boon for both to maintain trade and keep friendly relations between each other. The town was simply known as Hakone, a villa home to a few prolific individuals as well as a Kemono tribe. A simple town, one out of the way from the usual roads traveled to Fire country.

A few farmhands from Hakone were present at the gates of the clan stronghold, oxen carts ready to be loaded and everything from herbs and medicines to blankets and tools. Humanitarian aid, Hakone was faced with some recent hardship in the past month in the way of banditry. But now they were well on their way back down the mountain. Luo was among one three other individuals chosen to accompany the civilians back to their town, two of the Saimoto were on horseback, Luo and the other one rode with the caravan. The task was indeed simple, go from point A to B and aid in the delivery while ensuring no incidents detract from the assignment.

Luo watched the crows fly as they made the way down the mountain, counting them. Four crows. The oxen driver he rode with was unnerved at first of Luo's presence, but soon wouldn't shut up. He asked about what the clan was, and other random questions that Luo either ignored or didn't cared to answer. He looked back at the others for a moment, getting a gauge of where they were. From what he could tell, there was nothing of incident to report yet.

"What's your ears about? I've not seen anything like that." the question snapped him out of his daze and he looked back at the driver. Luo said nothing but his attention was brought to him now. "Like are you human?" He didn't seem to be rude, but Luo was already put off on guard from the questions. It all put him on edge now his ears were brought up, which were the identity for his lineage, a topic he didn't like exploring.

"I speak and breath the same as you, I'm here only to escort your cargo not to answer your questions." He said sternly to the man as he bared his teeth between words. The man looked away and focused his attention back to the ox, not saying a word back. Luo sat in the wagon now more agitated, gazing back to the sky as he settled in for the long ride.

            Luo Ibis | "The Outcast"

The escort was without incident as the caravan pulled into the hamlet, Luo and the other clansmen were now helping the drivers and workers unload the supplies. Bundles of clothing, blankets, and medicine was the bulk of the cargo. Other goods among the caravan were tools forged up at the stronghold by the blacksmith, sturdy for this years season. Luo helped along with the other farmers but had the man he rode with on the back of his mind. He been curious of what he was, what he represented and his lineage.

The danger was not the roads, and was not to the farmers. One of the clansmen exclaimed a shout of pain and Luo quickly turned around and now the villagers shown their true colors. Blades drawn from concealed sheaths, others scattered like rats as the first of Luo's companions was stabbed and left bleeding out as the other two were overpowered and also cut down in seconds. The same fate would've befell Luo if he hadn't faded into Void, two knives tearing through him as he dipped into a thin black mist and flowed through his attackers.

"Kill the monster! Don't let him escape!" The man who Luo rode with shouted, brandishing a spear now to rally the ambush. Luo's thoughts were running wild as he re materialized near the end of the town, eyes full of fury and bewilderment setting in. His allies were cut down like dogs and their trust betrayed by simple farmers, and now he was a monster to them. It took everything in Luo to not let loose then and there as he instead weaved his seals as a desperate mob of farmers ran at him.

"Leave me alone!" Luo shouted as he displayed his spectral wings, releasing a genjutsu upon the masses as the shadows converged on his enemies. Day became night, the world bled for them as they ceased their approach. The shout was the trigger for the second phase of his illusions as they would hear the screams and whispers of the dead, their long lost loved ones. Illusions were just what they were, illusions yet Luo effectively halted his would be foes as they collapsed to the ground, screaming in terror at the false world and the dead crawling at them.

He didn't want anything to do with the villagers, but he had one he wished dead and purposely left free of his phantoms. The oxen driver he rode with fled, running as Luo pursued and cut him off with black waltz technique as the void shot through his chest as he appeared in front of his prey. "Am I a monster?" Luo asked as he gripped the man's neck in both hands and begun to squeeze as he let his anger consume him.

Luo's red eyes were ablaze with the Sharingan as he stared at the farmer and let the Eyes of Madness technique consume the choking man. "AM I TRULY A MONSTER? You among every foul human here turning a blade to those who bring you aid." He gripped harder, his phantom wings glowing more intensely as the flood of emotion in the man was perceiving Luo as his worst fears and to him he was able to fight back only to be defeated each time. All while he had the life choked out of him, Luo's words coming through the illusion world.

"Your friends are lucky. I just wish to be left alone." Would be the last words the man would hear as his neck snapped from Luo's grip and his body caught fire, left to burn to ash. He struggled to hold himself back, wanting to burn the whole little hamlet into ash but he refused as the dojutsu deactivated and left him standing there. Screams still continued, those caught in the illusion suffering the false world he inflicted on them but Luo only collected the bodies of his clansmen onto a sole cart and began to return home. He fought back his emotions during the ride, left thinking to himself if he really was the demon others often saw him as.

Must be raining today. Luo thought as he let himself go.
