Physical Description: Midrymear is beastly - tall,broad and impressively strong looking, with scarred, bronze skin and short cut dark copper colored hair. If left to grow out, his hair has a natural curl to it. There is no doubt he knows he is an intimidating looking man and dresses the part.
Personality: Midrymear has been around the block a bit in his life and acts it. He is wise, sophisticated, and very unlikely to let anybody get in under his skin. If someone has to be the bigger man in a situation, it is very likely going to be Midrymear, though he also knows when to stubbornly stay the course. On top of his calm and experienced demeanor, Midrymear is very well spoken, at least when he speaks, and doesn’t fumble over his words or meanings. He believes that the more simply something is said or done, the more eloquent it is, and when coming from his mouth or his actions, it seems to be the truth.
However, Midrymear is not a talkative man, and with his physical appearance being as intimidating it is, he has a way of coming off as a gruff wall. Things are just a bit cooler around Midrymear and it can make him a difficult person to approach. He is very particular about the way things are said, in fact, and may either find himself annoyed at, or correcting, the way other people word things. Especially if they are using muddying words to try and beat around the bush, or if he thinks a better word or phrase could have been used. His pedantic attitude also extends to how tasks are carried out and he is prone to stepping over lines to show ‘better’ methods if he believes he knows one, leaving him to step on the toes of authority if he is not careful.
However, he is overall a very kind and well-meaning person and acts with other people in mind, genuinely wanting the those that have allowed themselves to consider him company. Even a near stranger will find him willing to share or to go out of his way to help with a particularly difficult task. That said, he is not the type to be content with doing good in the small tasks, and will be constantly looking for bigger and better opportunities to prove himself - and be seen for it. While he will be willing to do the bigger and better things behind the scenes, he will go out of his way to make sure he is noticed and appreciated for them by people to whom it would actually matter. Midrymear is more likely to show off to people in authority, leading to some of his more toe-stepping behavior in the attempt. Sure he’s happy to do the little things. But he’d be happier to be KNOWN for the bigger things.

History: Midrymear is the 4th born of 8 children to a Mercenary and like his older brothers, was expected to do more of the same - which was little issue to Midrymear. As with any pack of boys, competition was a part of life and with so many siblings about him, Midrymear quickly grew to push himself harder into the limelight, as he could. While he held no ill will against his older brothers in particular, he doesn't claim the opposite couldn't possibly be true - his strength and capability and eagerness to prove himself in front of his father had him taken along on many jobs and by the time he was 16 he’d outgrown his older brothers in both size and experience.
Neither size nor his particular brand of experience could do much when the scourge of Thread returned 2 turns later, though he was fortunate enough to not find his loved ones dead. In the time that would follow, however, he’d grow frustrated - there was no valor in cleaning up in the aftermath of an enemy he nor his father, nor his siblings could square up against. Even being part of the occasional ground crew left him unsatisfied. For every person he heard complain about the lack of protection the riders had offered, and there were more of them than he'd have imagined, he kept his own biting commentary to himself. There was more work to be had for Thread - more people were scared, more people were opportunistic. Midrymear couldn't help but find a certain irony in the fact that he and his family more often than not fell comfortably into the latter category.
Then a Searchdragon came down upon their little band, sniffing out one of Midrymear’s little sisters….and him. Eager to do more out of frustration but also out of his natural tendency to want to go big, he accepted - though not without some blowback. There were those within his own family who held the same strong opinions about the Riders that many of the holds and holders that had employed them did. He would back his sister's decision - and his own - with his nurtured strength and would head off to High Reaches Weyr where he has stood since, waiting. While no dragon has chosen him, he has found doing productive helpful work at a Weyr to at least make him feel less helpless.
