Name: El'rix (Ellorix)
Age: 25
Nameday: 3551.11.17
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: ???
Weyr: Western Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Harper
Physical Description: El'rix stands a solid 6'1" with broad shoulders, a trim waist, and generally handsome features. He has a broad, warm smile, and dark, wavy hair that falls well past his shoulders. His eyes are a bright blue, and usually filled to the brim with good humor and mirth. There's an easy-going nature that exudes off his very being. His waist is trim but fit, and it's clear he keeps himself in good shape.

Personality: Everything about El'rix is ease and affability. He's the sort of man who can usually get along with just about anyone, and will go out of his way to make sure those in his company feel welcome. He's the friend who will notice when someone seems to be quieter than usual, or is sticking to the sidelines; instead of leaving them be, he'll at least make an attempt to engage. On that same token, he'll be the first to check in on a friend who has fallen ill or injured, or try to touch base if it’s been some time. He’s not afraid of making an effort, even if his efforts are spurned. Overall, he tends to be a kind and considerate gentleman; he's not the sort to make a fuss if things don't go his way so long as the rest of his party is in good spirits.

Because he’s a non-confrontational sort, and because El’rix prefers to go with the flow, he can be considered a touch gullible. He tends to take things at face value, and isn’t the sort to question them. While this can make him a good follower, he runs the risk of being crafted into a yes-man, or at least, to take everyone’s side and support no one in the process. He’s a sympathetic listener, and instead of taking sides, winds up taking everyone’s instead. This has lead him to some rough patches with friends, but as far as El’rix is concerned, it’s all meant well.

True to character, El'rix has no trouble going with the flow--perhaps to his detriment. While he has an accepting nature--he’s not the sort to question what he’s being told by another, or to be suspicious and think of the worst--he can sometimes be too easy-going. While he won’t avoid confrontation entirely, El’rix isn’t the sort of man who is going to call someone out publicly. He probably won’t call someone out at all, particularly if he can find some justification or reason why he thinks they might have done something. As far as he sees the world, things work out as they should--and the amount of effort it might take to change the world is more than he has to spare. He is, unfortunately, a bit lazy. While he’s not necessarily an idle man, and can put forth effort as he needs to some cause--unless it’s a passion project, or something his friends, or someone he knows, wants him to do, he’d just as rather do nothing at all. If there’s an easier way to do something, El’rix will likely take it--even if the results might vary in success. There’s nothing wrong with good enough, right? Not everything needs to be done perfectly.

It’s that train of thought that has left El’rix more than a little aimless. While he eventually walked-the-tables, his Masters often grew frustrated with the young man’s ease. When perfection was demanded, El’rix often struggled to rise to the occasion. He could have been an extremely gifted Harper if only he’d put in the effort; instead, he is simply a decent-enough Harper. His skills as a rider are often the same; there is potential there to become something great… but unless his dragon pushes him, El’rix is more than happy to simply be passable in everything he does. He has no drive, no real dreams, and is often aimless. Impression has given him a bit of a goal--to fight Thread and stay alive--he really has no desire to become a Wingsecond or Wingleader; no real drive to become something great.

Positive Trait List Warm, Friendly, Accepting
Negative Trait List Gullible, Aimless, Too Easy-Going
History: Ellorix was born and raised in a small, beachside cothold on a small island of little consequence beholden to Black Sands. His mother was a kitchenworker woman of the hold, and his father a fisherman. The cothold was known primarily for its fishing, and its traditional views of the world; the men tended to work, while the woman-folk reared the children, watched the Aunties and Uncles, and generally kept the Hold running.. Ellorix, along with his brothers, was expected to learn to sail and fish but a tropical storm cut short such a future.

The storm was far worse than the starcrafter’s had predicted, and the island cothold was ruined. Many were killed from the storm surge, high winds, and devastation. Both his parents were killed, along with one of his sisters. So, at Turn eight, along with his remaining siblings, he was moved to Black Sands Hold proper, along with many of the Hold’s refugees. Black Sands was larger than any place he’d seen, and offered him opportunities he might not have otherwise had.

While fishing was still strongly encouraged, Ellorix found himself more interested in some of the other paths offered. While all the children were taught by the local Harpers, Ellorix picked up the child’s harp early, and enjoyed the lute as well. While some of his siblings romped on the beaches, he instead would play his music either indoors, or under the shade of the palm trees. With a decent singing voice, he was first sent to a small Harper Hall neart White Cliff, and when he proved competent and capable (if not in need of some motivation), was then sent via a green dragon to the official Harper Hall at Fort Weyr. While one couldn’t say he excelled--much to his Master’s frustration--he certainly did well.

At Turn 21, perhaps a little older than most, Ellorix finally was allowed to walk-the-tables. Though he would never be truly great, he did have a gift in at least doing his Master’s bidding, and was congenial and patient enough to at least get along with the most stubborn of sorts. He did have a knack for teaching, and could at least recite verse and song well enough to be of use to Holds in dire need of a Harper. So, for three turns, the Harper was sent around Pern doing exactly that.

It was during his time stationed at minor Hold, just outside Southern Boll Hold, that a most peculiar thing happened. A blue rider appeared, and requested his right to Search. Ellorix ushered the children out so the dragon might give them a look over. While most of them were too young, it was Ellorix that the rider approached. He was not from Fort or even High Reaches Weyr, but instead, was from Western… And with a clutch of eggs hardening on the Sands, wondered if he thought of standing?

Agreeable to the end, Ellorix decided it would make a good story--and his Hall would see him back, he was sure, should he fail to find a lifemate.

But he didn’t fail. In fact, Ellorix Impressed his very first Hatching--and has been rather enraptured ever since.

Other: Anything else you want to add?

DRAGON
Name: Valdivianth
Color: Blue
Origin of Name: Valdivianth's name is derived from the habitat of the Chilean Cat. The Childean Cat, or Guina, is strongly associated with mixed temperate rainforests of the southern Andean and coastal ranges, particularly the Valdivian and Araucaria forests of Chile, which is characterized by the presence of bamboo in the understory. In Argentina, it has been recorded from moist montane forest, which has Valdivian temperate rain forest characteristics, including a multi-layered structure with bamboo, and numerous lianas and epiphytes.

Inspiration: Chilean Cat
Personality Valdivianth is a dragon who knows what he wants. In fact, this dragon hatched and spent hardly a moment before he pounced His and made sure El’rix knew he was claimed. This dragon isn’t the sort to second-guess and has no trouble making a move if the opportunity presents himself. He isn’t Machiavellian--per say--but he certainly toes the line. When Valdivianth wants something, he’ll do whatever he has to do to achieve it… even if that means stomping on some hearts, or burning some bridges along the way.

To say he has ambition is an understatement. This dragon is well aware of his color, but is happy to have been hatched at Western Weyr. No matter what, he knows he can prove himself, and has every intention of pushing His until they’ve reached the stars. He’s a workhorse, and has little patience for those who aren’t ready to put in their equal share. While part of him does get a satisfaction in knowing that he’s reliable--and he is--another part of him can grow bitter knowing that others might be shirking their duties. He has little patience for his clutchmates who would prefer to idle away their days… Does he appreciate a rest day? Yes, he can… but only when there is no more work to be done. Should there be something outstanding that His has neglected, or if he was forced to leave work unfinished simply to relax or take time away, he will grow restless. Sometimes, when the stars align just right, Valdivianth can relax and play as hard as he works.

No one would mistake Valdivianth for being an overly friendly dragon. He’s certainly a bit more cool and aloof than his rider, and did not inherit the charm some of his other clutchmates. This isn’t to say he can’t be charming--he just prefers to spend such energy only on those who mean something to him (or, perhaps, in the heat of a flight). Mostly, though, he has little use for hearts--he has his eyes on rising up the ladder, and until he’s bit by the love-bug, probably won’t notice anyone fawning over him. Let his sisters and brothers play game-of-hearts, he really would prefer power instead.

Just give it time. Valdivianth knows he’ll get there, eventually.

Size: 23'
Physical Attributes: Valdivianth is a very petite sized dragon. He's muscular for a blue, though his muscle is more svelte than bulky. This does mean he's a bit heavier than some of his clutchmates, and can slow him down both on the ground and even when first up in the air--but he makes up for it with sheer strength. His hindquarters are particularly thick, his shoulders broad, and he has teeth that are a bit longer than average; he’ll be prone to biting his tongue because of it. His wings are particularly broad, which allow him a good amount of time gliding when the winds are good. He cuts a very clear figure in the sky, but is not particularly quick on wing, because of it.

Additional Notes: Valdivianth can be quite passionate in the heat-of-the-moment when it comes to dragonflights. While he doesn’t chase often, when he does, he does with determination and fervor. He has the potential to break a few hearts by being unaware that those he catches might have deeper feelings… and while he is not intentionally cruel, he doesn’t usually feel regret when he returns to his ledge the next morning. It will take someone exceptional indeed to pin him down for good.

Why Me:
Ellorix and Valdivianth counter and compliment one another well. To start, Ellorix is in dire need of someone to help give him direction and purpose--and Valdivianth is that very dragon! Valdivianth has no intention of letting His simply take the easy path--he will push him up the ladder, no matter what it takes. On the flipside, Ellorix is the one being who can turn down Valdivianth's passion to a simmer. Instead of becoming a workaholic with no focus but duty and a drive for power, Ellorix will force His to stop and savor the moment and to make time for relaxation and play. Where both Ellorix and Valdivianth are on opposite sides of the spectrum, they can often forge a middle-ground which will make them a competent and reliable pair.

Where Ellorix refrains from confrontation, Valdivianth is fearless. If Ellorix won’t stand up for himself, Valdivianth will; that said, if Valdivianth seems too Machiavellian, Ellorix will make sure His remembers that others have feelings, too. Neither rider, nor dragon, will allow the other to fall into the deep end of their worst traits, and if they do, will pull them back to more middle ground. That doesn’t mean they won’t fight--because they can, and do--but they are able to help encourage the other to shine. Ellorix now has the potential to be great, even if his dragon is helping lift him to the top; and Valdivianth can find some polish and shine beneath his more aloof exterior.

These two were made for each other. When they are both focused on the same goal, there is nothing they can’t achieve.

How did your character behave during Weyrling Training? El’rix and Valdivianth were generally good weyrlings. El’rix applied himself more than he did during his time at Harper Hall, primarily because Valdivianth was there to encourage him every step of the way. He also had spent very little time as a Candidate, so learning about dragon riding and life at the Weyr was absolutely fascinating to the young man. Valdivianth was always out there wanting to drill, drill, and drill and likely needed encouragement to play or relax. El’rix could usually draw him out to be more sociable, but Valdivianth tended to play it cool. That said, El’rix is old enough to know how to abide by rules, and followed Liat’s instruction when it came to Valdivianth' health and well-being, and his fellows, to the letter.

What did your character think of so many twin dragons? What did your character think of having not one, but two, gold sister? El’rix was originally amazed, but then, he had very little time to learn about life at the Weyr, or what was considered ‘normal’ in a Hatching. He’d never heard of twin queen’s before, much less twin anything-else, but he certainly was charmed. That this hatching had not one, but two Queens was more than Impressive.

Valdivianth, for his part, was less impressed by his clutchmates. Certainly, Kleoth and Leoth were to be respected, but this dragon had little time to worry about his clutchmates when there was work to be done and drills to be had. To say his inter-personal relationships are weak is an understatement.

How did your characters do during flying lessons and Between training? Were they naturals or did they struggle? Valdivianth was a natural when it came to flight--though he struggled to take off simply due to his sheer bulk. Take offs are not easy for him unless he has a chance to fall off the ledge--leaping from the ground is a bit of a struggle and likely will be. But once he is air bound, Valdivianth is a fine looking dragon indeed.

Between lessons were where El’rix and Valdivianth struggled the most. Memorizing the various coordinates proved tricky for El’rix, and it was one of the few times he didn’t need Valdivianth goading to have him study, study, study.

How has your character been handling being graduated and a real dragon rider? El’rix is still enraptured with his new lot in life, and adores Valdivianth beyond words. He doesn’t yet regret giving up his life as a Harper--especially as he still can play on his rest dyas, or when given free time. And spending time with Valdivianth is never a chore--which helps keeps El’rix motivated. Oiling, bathing, and spending time with Valdivianth isn’t work… so he does tend to keep up his duties without neglect.

Fighting Thread has lost its allure though, and are days El’rix loathes. Not because of the work, but because the loss of wingmates is a heavy burden to wear. He’s known grief like many on Pern, and more still since Thread returned. Still, having Valdivianth makes it worthwhile, and though he’s afraid of his own death… he relies, perhaps a bit too much, on Valdivianth to help pull them through.

Valdivianth, of course, couldn’t be happier than when in battle--for that is where he truly shines.
