Name: Jahzli
Age: 51
Nameday: 3525.03.17
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Opportunistic
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: N/A
Physical Description: Jahzli stands about 5'8" with fair skin, and long, luxurious, red-hair. She has fine bones and a delicate, hourglass-frame. She's the sort of woman who is often described as beautiful--and she knows it well. She isn't often found without her hair done up in some fashion, her lips and eyes painted with some new luxury paint, and her clothing designed from most respected tailors. She enjoys bright colors, and is always happy to bring in the latest fashions.

Personality: Jahzli certainly is something, and that something is usually a selfish b***h. There are good qualities about her, but they're often self-centered and driven by her own gain. Her motivations are usually self-serving so finding any genuine sincerity in her can be difficult. She can put on the charm and know how to paint a pretty picture with words, or her body language--when she wants. She is the sort of woman who could genuinely be sweet and kind, and with the right people in the room, or when her motivations actually line up with something good, she can be true! Those moments are simply few and far between. She certainly adores Talibeth, who is her world, and would never put her queen truly at risk. There are a handful of lucky individuals that Jahzli genuinely adores, or at least thinks very highly of and respects, and in those cases she is more willing to put herself out for their gain. There are times when she'll do something for another simply because it is the right thing to do... but buyer beware, for Jahzli is known to be a queen of manipulation.

She will play whatever role she has to to get her way. If asking, begging, or pleading doesn't get her what she wants, than she'll backstab, lie, or steal. If she has to play the victim, than so be it; if she has to cry on the shoulders of another and be genuinely distressed, she'll do it. Thankfully, Jahzli isn't a complicated woman. What she wants above all else is to be the star. She wants to be the one with a line of men and women eating out of her hand; she wants to be the next Weyrwoman--but she also has no desire to do any of the work that comes with it. She craves the power but lacks the skill it would take. She has not the patience, temperament, or desire to truly run the place... she just wants the glory and attention such rank would give her.

There are times she will work hard to obtain a goal. She might be lazy, but she is certainly not entirely neglectful of her duty. She'll do the bare minimum, and more often than not, will delegate projects and tasks to those beneath her. Let them carry her to the top--why should she do more work than she has to? She's a goldrider of High Reaches--and she deserves to be adored. There are young gold riders who are brand new; she did the time, now it's their turn to work.

Through out it all, Jahzli's confidence and self-assurance never wavers. Even when caught up in some tangled web, or light shone upon her schemes, the red head is shameless. Consequences be damned. Others judgment and scorn isn't something that keeps her up at night, and she has no trouble finding new pawns and lovers to adore her. She's a gold digger's dream, and happily plays the part as the woman of the hour. Let others think ill of her--she's a gold rider, and by Faranth, she will make sure Pern doesn't forget it.

Positive Trait List Charming, Confident, Ambitious
Negative Trait List Self-Centered, Manipulative, Lazy
History: Jahzli was born and raised just outside of Bitra Hold. She was the only child of a Master Vintner and his wife, who had settled down in the Hold to hawk his wares, and get the youth interested in the craft of wine. While the lands weren't as fertile as his native Bendan home, those of Bitra loved to drink as much as they loved to gamble, lie, steal, and cheat. As it was, Jahzli lived a life of comfort.

His father did very well at the Hold, and his mother was renowned for her beauty and tender heart. It was a picture-perfect family, and there was no denying they thought Jahzli hung the moons.

She lacked in nothing, and was brought up and raised to be a proper girl. Of course, growing up among those of Bitra was not without its difficulties. While they did not lack in marks, esteem, or comfort, the family--and Jahzli in particular--were known to be rather superficial. Perhaps it was because her own mother came from a relatively poor background that Jahzli's father seemed to overdo it in the gift department; the girl had four flits by the time she was twelve, tailor-made dresses and shoes of all colors and fashions; her very own runner to ride; and even had a handful of Journeymen paid to see if she had any aptitude or interest in a craft.

But Jahzli wasn't as happy as she could be. She might have had four flits, but none of them were a queen; all the dresses were out of fashion by the time the next season hit; the shoes she outgrew or grew bored of; and the runner not the right color she had wanted. While she was happy, she wasn't as happy as she could be. There was always something bigger and better out there that somehow diminished what she had in hand.

It was only when she was sent to Southern Boll Hold on the back of a brown dragon at Turn 14, to the Weavercraft Hall, that her personality began to sour. For the first time in her life, Jahzli began to realize that her life was not nearly as ordinary as she assumed it to be. In Bitra, everyone was fake, and if you didn't live lavishly, you were unseen; but at Southern Boll, Jahzli found out that there were girls who didn't have the background she had. In fact, she found she was envied, and better yet, had sway in her little circle of friends. Very quickly, and without her mother's more steadying hand to guide her, Jahzli found what she had been missing all along...

Popularity.

It didn't take her long to become a cosetted favorite at the cothold she stayed in. While her weaving was better than some of the girls and boys stationed at the cothold near the Hall, and she actually was accepted into the Hall as an official apprentice--she truly didn't have the skill needed to rise any higher. Like many, her family had the marks to send her there with the hopes she might make an eligible match. Given her love of clothing, her father figured a local Weavercrafter might be good for her long-term happiness--and if she learned a thing or two about responsibility, all the better. Unfortunately, as she aged, while she had friends a plenty, and more than a few boys and girls eating out of her hand, Jahzli still found herself discontent.

Just before her 20th Turn, something surprising happened. Jahzli was found on Search for Benden Weyr while visiting her parents back at Bitra. The woman had never given dragonriding a thought, and had assumed the idea of Search was a dead one, but the blue rider was attractive, and he sold her on the idea. While she would have to go through training, she would finally find someone who would love her unconditionally if she were to Impress. Additionally, there were riders aplenty who would welcome a pretty face, and it would certainly give her a new direction. A green dragon would certainly compliment her red hair... or even a gold!

It didn't take much to convince her to go. She could return to her craft if she didn't Impress, after all. While her family was surprised, they weren't about to stand in her way. Dragonriding was a harmless and once noble profession; if their daughter wanted a dragon, then no doubt she would get one. It would at least give her something to her amuse herself with if she did manage.

Not quite a full two sevendays later, Jahzli stood for her very first Hatching at the illustrious--if not half-abandoned--Benden Weyr. Even Jahzli understood the honor. The stands were full, and lo and behold, much to her parents astonishment, she did Impress. But not to a green--but to a Queen!

Indeed, it was drawing near the end with only a few eggs remaining, and the yellow queen finally broke into the Sands. Any frustration that many a green had passed her by immediately melted, for she knew, within her hearts, that that darling was meant to be Hers. Perhaps all the girls held their breath and hoped--but for once, Jahzli got exactly what she wanted. The delicate, golden maiden picked her way decisively over to Jahzli, humming in pleasure as she bridge the space between them.

Beautiful, lovely Jahzli. You are so clever to know. Of course I'm Yours... How could I want anyone else but you? Breathe now, beloved, for you never need be discontent again. Your Talibeth is finally here.

As a queen rider at Benden Weyr, her training was, perhaps, a bit more catered than the rest in the clutch. She learned how to fly, learned how to make riding straps, and learned what was expected of Talibeth when she did mature enough to rise. By the time she and Talibeth graduated, the woman knew well that it wasn't right to remain. All of Pern might be theirs, but if she wanted to become someone, than she needed to move out West. She remained a few Turns, gifting Benden Weyr Tallibeth's maiden flight--but she decided that the Weyr was too small for the likes of her.

So it was, not long after the eggs hatched, she requested a transfer to High Reaches Weyr. Surely, they had room for yet another queen?

Her request was granted, and Jahzli and Talibeth moved to the mountain Weyr in the summer of 3549. Her life was everything she hoped it would be, though she never cared much for competition. To say she got along with her fellow gold riders was an understatement--she was bossy, demanding, and generally a pain. Her work ethic was underwhelming, but part of that was blamed on her upbringing at Benden Weyr. Thankfully, there were enough bronze and brownriders to defend her honor--and she made sure they were properly favored.

As she aged she tended to favor Aquilina, assuming (as many did) that she would take over once Lisella grew too old or stepped down. Surely, getting in good with the future leadership would bode well for her. She hoped that maybe, perhaps, something might happen and her own Talibeth would rise as soon as Zamiath stepped down...

But they were simply that.

Hopes.

Instead, it was the younger Zheria who rose up, much to Jahzli's annoyance and disgust. How could some beast like that be chosen over Aquliina and Caracath? Or why not someone talented, skilled, and far more prestigious be tapped to take over, like herself? To say it was a blow to her pride was an understatement, and Jahzli has never forgiven the old Weyrwoman for choosing a Nabolese whore instead of her.

But Jahzli is nothing if not patient. She knows that things can happen, and long-life isn't a guarantee. Though Zheria might be in charge now, with Olliah as the second, that doesn't mean they'll last forever. Things can go wrong, and it's anybody's guess on where--or how--things will wind up. She's still well in the prime of her life.

In hopes of spreading out the blood lines, Jahzli and Talibeth were asked to spend some time down in Southern Weyr with a handful of other golds from Western and High Reaches. It wasn't a permanent transfer--merely an opportunity--and it worked out well for the red-haired woman. Sun, sand, and a Weyr who valued metallics perhaps even more than High Reaches. Unlike her time at High Reaches, she wouldn't have to drill or play pretend Thread. Though Talibeth was less pleased to leave, the two spent a handful of Turns down in Southern Weyr, and might well have remained had not Thread returned.

Indeed, Threadfall changed everything.

Golds were suddenly needed in a variety of Weyrs, and Jahzli immediately followed suit in the mad scramble to fill up the long, abandoned Weyrs. Having lived and trained at High Reaches so many Turns prior would surely put her at an advantage in being chosen as future leadership--but alas, every position she strived for was snatched out of her hands. The Weyrs came together quickly, and though Jahzli tried to worm her way up the ladder, it seemed to her either younger queens from High Reaches took the coveted positions, or the Weyrs simply chose others!

In an act of desperation, the past three Turns of her life were spent at Igen Weyr, who struggled to retain leadership in the harsh deserts, and amid Threadfall accidents. Unfortunately, she was denied any chance to lead when a much younger queen rose and was dubbed their newest Weyrwoman. Without even being offered the role as Second, she realized it was time to return home.

The desert was no more her home than Southern Weyr had been. So it was, the queen put in a request to return to High Reaches Weyr where she belonged. They had always said her time away was temporary--if new blood was needed, let some of the other Queens go and let her live back among her beloved wingmates. While she could have returned to Benden Weyr, the prestige of being a High Reaches rider was still strong among those on Pern--and Benden now looked a fool for having been so wrong.

The queens of Pern were now needed more than ever--surely, they wouldn't turn away yet another illustrious queen?

Thankfully, her request was, albeit grudgingly, accepted.

DRAGON
Name: Talibeth
Age: 22
Color: Gold
Size: 95'
Physical Description: Talibeth is a little larer than average for a queen. She is a bit round for a queen, having always carried just a bit more weight than some of her golden sisters. She would be offended, of course, if she was ever called fat--though she is, in part due to Jahzli's indulgence of her. Still, she has delicate and dainty feet, elegant headknobs, and a longer-than-average tail.
Personality: Talibeth is a queen who expects to be given everything her heart desires. She is traditional in that she much prefers the presence of bronzes, and like her rider, has no trouble making demands of chromatics. That said, unlike her rider, she is well aware of her place among the Weyrs. Where Jahzli has every intention to rise through the ranks, Talibeth is more content to simply have a comfortable home, and a few boys to linger near her. She is not nearly as driven as her rider, which is just as well. No, Talibeth is indeed a lady of the Weyr, and a Queen, but she is well aware that she is, and likely will always be, simply part of the court.

Talibeth, of course, doesn't mind. Jahzli's ambition and shameless nature was something that Talibeth admired. Popularity wasn't something that ever came easy to the pale queen, but she knew her rider would certainly help her navigate such waters. It was why she chose her. The queen couldn't help but be enamored by the confident woman from Bitra. She relies on Hers to help her through her quiet insecurities, while Jahzli can, at times, be tempered by Talibeth's more sensible nature. At minimum, Talibeth is there to help smooth out the edges that Hers might accidentally ruffle.

Spoiled, but with manners, this Queen is not known to be as much trouble as her rider. The one area she will clash with other queens (and other dragons) comes down to boys she perceives as Hers. While she does not want or need quite the menagerie Eveleth has--she does expect to be given her due loyally. Those who toy with her, or spurn her, will face a long-lasting grudge and endless ire.

Additionally, Talibeth can have moments of insecurity. For while she knows Jahzli loves her, their bond is not always close. There are times Hers seems less content with her station, and while her rider would never do her Harm, sometimes Talibeth wonders if she alone is enough--or if Hers will never be truly happy with her until she rises up in the ranks. This can sometimes cause her jealousy of other dragons--particularly other golds--whose relationship with Theirs is less contentious.
