Name: Valian
Age: 14
Nameday: 3562.10.15
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Uh????
Craft: N/A
Rank: Candidate
Location: High Reaches Weyr
Physical Description: As he stands now, Valian is tiny. However, give or take a few turns for puberty to catch up, he’ll eventually hit a final growth spurt to round him off around the shorter side of average. He’ll still be a bit slight, with thin shoulders and lean frame. His hair is a pale black, falling in choppy waves down to his shoulders and falling into larger, innocent blue eyes. Freckles, both dark and pale red, coat his cheeks across his pale face. His stature tends to lean more demure, timid; shoulders down, arms tucked closer to his chest.
Personality: Oh, to be a hero! -- for it is all Valian craves. Growing up in such a prestigious Weyr, surrounded by dragonriders and the stunning tales told during his turns in the creche. Though none could compare to the hero that is his father in his eyes, Valian spent long turns dreaming of being able to stand upon the hot golden sands of the hatching cavern before a clutch and finding his dragon. To fly as a pair and sear thread down from the sky! The strong heartbeat of a Terran white knight, and the honor of dragonmen that he wants for his own--- and yet, the world is terrifying. For all his wants to stand tall and proud… He’s woefully lacking. Valian has issues standing up for himself; in the face of a bully, or even his own firelizard snatching a snack he’d gained from himself. The fear is a strong note; whether it’s worry thread would strike down his father as he rose to meet the foe, or perishing upon his first clutch to stand for, or if a white’s rainbow gaze would be turnt upon him (-- not that, mind you!, he would ever turn his dragon away, if he had one to meet, but. Knowing J’deen’s distaste of them, would whatever scrap of pride he managed to gain in his father’s eyes be lost if his partner turned out to be a white dragon? Fret, woe, worry..). His fear in life has caused him to miss out on so much; bonding with possible friends, losing something if he cannot speak up for owning it. Shards, he might have lost Frostbite if the firelizard wasn’t actually bonded to him! Truth be told, Valian actually grows quite jealous of people who are able to walk tall and large in life. To have that kind of confidence to carry their chin high and talk loud -- he’s tried it, and just as quickly would his thin confidence be popped back to normal. No, those who carry an easier confidence in life will find quite the jealous creature in life, and though he may not ever befriend someone that is more outgoing, Valian only wants to ask… how?

However, if one might be able to worm past the scared wall, Valian is, in short, a sweet person. Though he may only show it to so select few, he’s kind in action and in word. Breaking a cookie in half just because someone looked hungry, or holding a friend’s hand if they’re scared. Though he may have a hard time talking or reaching out, that never stops Valian from wanting to do something good, something to make a difference on someone -- even just for a few moments of someone’s day. But oh, for such a soft soul, Valian is just as equally sensitive. A sour or haughty remark can bring tears to his eyes, even if he tries to hide them away until he’s in private to let them fall. This boy wants nothing more than to seek the approval of those around him that matter most; his father, the candidatemaster -- at least, in the scope of his world as a newly-bid candidate. For, unfortunately, the lows hit him hard, and while he tries his best to learn from his mistakes to not repeat them and cause ire or disappointment of his betters or his own rank, somewhere deep in him he knows he’ll flub something up again, and cause disappointment once more.

Valian knows of his place in the Weyr, as a former weyrbrat in the creche and now a candidate in lessons and waiting for the next gold to rise. He’s of the bottom rung, and he accepts his place in life -- and readily accepts what may befall him whatever color his lifemate may be, despite his blip of a hang up on the possible what if he disappoints his dad. Certainly, he’d love to impress a bronze just as his dad had! And though his mother didn’t want much to do with him, there was no shame in being a greenrider. Or anything in between, for browns were sturdy and strong, and blues were quick and speedy. Though he has hopes for himself, he’s ready to accept whatever may be his path in life. He’s ready and excited to face what may happen, especially if a dragon chooses him in a sea of so many worthy candidates.

With such outstanding role models in his life, and his wants and desires out of life, Valian takes great strides to hold up whatever little mantle he has. If he’s been given a task to do -- between chores or some directive given by someone else -- he’ll do his very best to see it through to completion. He’s scared of disappointment, certainly, but he wants to be a model rider some day, to be known as someone that can be relied on for no matter what may come -- and that starts with the little things, right?
Positive Trait List Sweet, Responsible, Agreeable
Negative Trait List Sensitive, Jealous, Fearful
History: The result of a greenflight that somehow came to fruition, Valian was born to Milliena, a greenrider, and J’deen, a bronzerider. He was dumped into the creche at earliest convenience for Milliena, and though Valian has but little memories of her once-in-a-blue-moon visits, it didn’t matter. The young tot was more enamored by his father's visits, for he and his bronze dragon were everything that Valian very quickly idolized. Nothing could ever tarnish the pedestal that the pair are placed on in his heart and mind. Every turn that passed by made Valian all the more excited and terrified as he drew closer to being able to enter for candidacy.

But as he approached, the unthinkable had happened -- thread had returned. He prided himself by trying to be brave, trying to keep his head up while helping on the ground, spooling bandages and running things for healers. All the while, nervously hoping his parents were okay -- always keeping an eye out for Rekoriath's bronze form. While he knows High Reaches was always prepared for this, it doesn't help that he's just scared -- for his dad, for the Weyr. Time and repetitive falls have helped, but he's always trying to squelch that nugget of anxiety when fall comes.

But time finally came, and now that Valian's turned a fresh 14, he's excited to have his first chance to stand on the hatching sands and make everyone proud.
Other: A son to Tsu's J'deen! Tiny koolaid sipper.
