Name: A'run (formerly Amrun)
Age: 27
Nameday: 3549.03.01
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Healer

Physical Description: A'run stands around 5'10" tall, and is built very slim and fine-boned, with fairly narrow shoulders and hips. His hair is cream-white, naturally fluffy and fine; he has worn it in waist-length dreadlocks since he transferred to Healer Hall, with long, straight, carefully-cultivated spiky fringe in front. For flying, he ties it back and shoves it beneath his flight jacket. His eyes are almond-shaped and intensely blue; his face is average in shape, vaguely oval, with slightly soft features, gently arched eyebrows, a straight nose, and a mouth of average width. He has a very fair complexion and burns like crazy in the sun.

He's a snappy dresser, preferring white shirts (always impeccably clean) with vests, well-fitted trousers and knee-high boots; he adds a warm full-length grey coat in winter, lined with thick white fur and embroidered with stylized dragons. His preferred color scheme is whites and greys. When he's working as a Healer, he will wear a pair of pince-nez style glasses so he can better see the close work that needs doing and roll up the sleeves of his shirt.

Personality:
A'run is a man who is friendly and kind, disarmingly humble despite a sort of casual, relaxed self-confidence and pride, a classic science-nerd type and natural nurturer, all of which make him a natural as a Healer. Making people well, easing someone's pain and discomfort, mending wounds or even just administering a soothing, reassuring touch, gratify him in a way that little else can. He's a knowledgeable herbalist; he knows how to concoct possets, tisanes, and draughts to take care of most routine medical issues. His sense of humor can be charmingly morbid at times, with dry remarks delivered in such a way as it's hard to tell whether he's joking or not.

A'run secretly harbors an intense jealousy and bitterness over his dead brother, bronzerider A'rik. He loved his brother, and would do anything in the world for him, but he still can't help having fits of impotent jealous rage against him sometimes, because of how he is still constantly compared to A'rik and found lacking -- even after A'rik's death in a Threadfall accident when Thread first returned in 3572. He knows a good part of this is the fact he Impressed a white, the lowest rung on the ladder when it comes to dragonrider rank. However, as a High Reaches native, he buys completely into the colorist hierarchy and accepts his place, though he still gets angry and bitter about the way he is treated sometimes by his peers. He and Sumuth go out of their way to prove themselves as a result.

The biggest obstacle in A'run's life is not that he's a whiterider, but that he is not a naturally organized thinker. He fancies himself a meticulous man and is an obsessive note-taker, carefully transcribing results of his experimentations. But his notes ramble off into free-association nonsense more often than not. He's not a stupid man, just... disorganized. It was only his single-minded determination to outdo his brother for once that got him through Healer training and subsequently Weyrling training.

Positive Trait List caring and kind, self-confident, determined, proud
Negative Trait List jealous, a bit morbid, bitter, disorganized

History:
Born at High Reaches, Amrun, as the son of a bronzerider, was burdened with high expectations from the start. Then his younger brother Amrik was born two turns later. Amrik was the new golden child, receiving most of the praise from his father. Used to being the center of attention, Amrun became jealous of his baby brother and the preferential treatment he got in everything; over the years this jealousy became nearly toxic for Amrun.

As was expected of a weyrbrat, Amrun started standing for clutches at age 14, each time failing to Impress. When Amrun was 16, Amrik Impressed a bronze his first time on the Sands, and that was really the straw that broke the herdbeast's back; Amrun left High Reaches to begin Healer training at Healer Hall. Always vaguely interested in the Healers after being treated for an accident as a child, Amrun became a star apprentice, acing his training with effortless ease and ability, and he walked the tables to become a Journeyman at age 20.

Amrun returned to High Reaches shortly afterward to attend a Hatching and to show off to his father and A'rik, who was a wingleader now. He received some praise, mostly, "oh, that's nice," while A'rik held the attention of his father and the other bronzeriders they were seated with. And the old jealousy reared its head again. He was on the verge of leaving when a heartbreaking creel from the Sands got his attention -- it was a rare little white hatchling, all alone and desperate. Suddenly a voice in Amrun's head was calling for him, reaching down and wrapping itself around his heart. He staggered down from the stands to the creeling white infant and Impressed little Sumuth.

A'run and Sumuth aced dragonrider training as A'run had aced Healer training, with apparent effortless ease and skill. Despite the potential issues with being a whiterider, A'run decided to stay on at High Reaches as both a dragonrider and a Healer. It was what he felt he must do. They were ready when Thread returned, as was the rest of the Weyr. At one point, while flying over High Reaches Hold, the dragons started keening -- A'run's brother A'rik had been killed fighting Thread over Tillek. A'run was shocked and mourned the loss of his brother, but carried on with the fight, coming through with minimal damage and working with the Healers after the 'Fall ended to patch up the Threadscored and ease the suffering of those who could not be saved. Still, the attention was all on the loss of A'rik, not on the often heroic work of the Healers in general and A'run in particular (he felt).

A'run is still trying to prove himself worthy of praise and glory like his brother was. He keeps his hand in with the Healers as much as he can in his limited free time, secretly hoping for that moment that gets him the attention he craves.

Other:

DRAGON
Name: Sumuth
Age: 7
Color: White
Size: 33'
Physical Description: A ghostly silvery white with faint swirls and whorls on his wings and along his back and legs; he practically becomes invisible in fog or snow. A little on the large size for a white, compact and muscular.

Personality:
A thoroughly delightful and charming little dragon, white Sumuth doesn't seem to care that he's treated poorly by most of the metallics at High Reaches and their riders. It rolls off him like rain off a waterfowl's back. He knows where he stands, and by Faranth he is going to do his best to shine where he is! This dragon is relentless when fighting Thread, cutting through the air like a tiny scythe, his long steady flame the blade that cuts down Pern's ancient enemy; he has helped save more of the larger but slower, less agile dragons than anyone cares to admit by flitting to the right place at the right moment. He assists A'run's secondary occupation as a Healer by helping to calm upset and scared dragons whose riders have been injured, so the feedback loop of fear and pain transmitted through the bond a dragon has with their rider doesn't make things worse for either.

Sumuth chose A'run from the Stands not only because he found the Candidates on the Sands lacking, but because he could see the potential in the man to do great things, even though he's only a white dragon himself. His sweetness and upbeat nature help soothe the worst of A'run's bitterness and rage and help his rider focus on the really important things, like healing people and fighting Thread. This little white also acts as his rider's calendar/scheduler, keeping him on track when he gets too scattered and disorganized. Sumuth is A'run's biggest cheerleader, constantly reinforcing how wonderful his rider is for helping people. It takes a good man to be so selfless, and His is as good as they get!

Hello Tatter!

Unfortunately, A'run would not have been allowed to Stand if he had received an eye injury prior to becoming a Candidate. Also, while I believe you were using mydriasis so that we, OOCly, would know what he has, I just wanted to remind you that it likely wouldn't have that name/description ICly!

A'run testing tinctures on himself would be a major no-go. Even with a steep tolerance, he could cause permanent damage or death to himself, and no Master would allow him to practice so recklessly. And just a quick reminder that as a dragonrider, he would no longer be considered a Healer. He would not be permitted to help them unless he was doing so in what little free time he has.

Other than that, they look good!
