Name: Razanel
Age: 18
Nameday: 3558.02.14
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: ???
Craft: Sailor - Not Hall Taught
Rank: Candidate
Location: High Reaches Weyr
Physical Description: Razanel stands about a sold 6'0" with broad shoulders, a trim waist, long, muscular arms, and strong legs. He's not as muscled as his father, or others on the ship, but he's also still filling out. His black hair is thick, falls to his shoulders, and is often tied back to stay out of his face. He's a little more rugged than some his age, after spending Turns on the ocean. Still, he's healthy, with dark olive skin, dark violet eyes, and an almost ever-constant grin.
Personality: Razanel is as hard-working as he is trouble. When assigned to a task, he's not the sort to shy away or shirk what needs to be done. He excels at the physical assignments. Where some might bellyache about mucking out runner stalls, fixing fences, or carting supplies to and from, Razanel enjoys it. Not only is he good at manual labor and various physical projects, but he'd much rather get his hands dirty doing actual work than listen to lectures all day. Some might assume this means he's less focused or interested when his is buried in a pile of scrolls and hides, but the Candidatemaster is now his new Captain--and Razanel knows better than to test that relationship or slack off during lessons. Whatever order he's given, you can rest assure Razanel will put his all in it--even the stuffy book work. Life on the sea still required as much brain as it did brawn--and reading and memorizing star charts and maps was as much part of his upbringing as was mopping decks and mending sails.

Though he works hard, this man is also known to play hard. During his free hours and rest days, Razanel has little trouble finding endless amounts of distraction among the Weyrfolk. He's old enough now to have gained a bit of a reputation, and is about as randy as some of his fellow weyrbrats. He's not a shy man, and isn't afraid to get what he wants--and what he wants is usually something he shouldn't. To say he's a swaggering sailor is right, and while H'aal has his own reputation, his son is beginning to come into one all his own. He's not the sort to be tied down, and enjoys the freedom that Weyrlife has given him. If he's not in a game of dragon poker, or laughing it up with his friends, he's likely out there looking for a bed to warm. Certainly, Razanel has his charm, and he doesn't go out of his way to intentionally break hearts--but it is a consequence of his currently unbridled lifestyle. He's not easily satisfied, and his ever-growing list of girlfriends and boyfriends gets longer and longer as time goes on.

Bold and outgoing, Razanel has never struggled to make friends, and High Reaches Weyr is no exception. He has no trouble talking to anyone in the Weyr, and while he understands the chain-of-command and the different shoulder knots, he isn't afraid or intimidated by those higher up. He isn't afraid to voice his opinions, or to speak up when he thinks something is wrong; he isn't the sort to back down when cornered, and has no trouble throwing down if that's what it comes to. There is no situation he can't get himself out of, or so he believes... But his brazen attitude and shamelessness can get him into quite some trouble.

And rest assured, Razanel is shameless. He's a man who is brazen in word and deed. He wears his confidence like a coat of armor, and isn't the sort to walk back his words. Even if he has a change of heart later, this young man would rather walk with his head held high than cast down in shame. He isn't the sort who is easily embarrassed and doesn't worry about any discomfort his attitude or careless charm might bring.

To further complicate things, Razanel can be thoughtless. In some cases he simply doesn't realize what he's doing; in other cases, he just doesn't care. He's the sort who doesn't think about his actions and only finds himself in-over-his-head when it's far too late to back out of it. It's not just his actions, but his words as well. Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, he says things he doesn't mean, or might come to regret later... Or in other cases, makes promises he never intends to keep. He's a man who likes the best of everything, and wants it all--and refuses to believe he can't have it, and will never get it.

Razanel will do what it takes--even if that means burning bridges he might later come to regret.

Positive Trait List Gregarious, Bold, Industrious
Negative Trait List Libertine, Brazen, Thoughtless
History: Razanel was born and raised on the sea. For much of his life, the water was the only home he knew--and perhaps, in a way, it still is. His mother left him and his twin to the care of their father, H'aal, and between the blue rider and the rest of the crew, the twins lacked in nothing. Well, all right, maybe that wasn't entirely true-- raising children on the sea wasn't easy, but there were ports enough to stop in and sell wares; and if any emergencies cropped up, H'aal had a dragon for more immediate needs. So perhaps, more accurately, Razanel and his brother were raised more between land, sea, and sky, and it was a life the boy adored.

If the type of trading the crew dealt in was shady and perhaps downright questionable, Razanel didn't mind. To start, he was ignorant about it from the beginning, and when he did realize the truth, he found he didn't care. It was his family, it was the only life he knew, and if his father saw no qualms about it, then he didn't either.

Life on the ship was hard-work, but like his father before him, Razanel found he enjoyed it. He always knew his place, always knew what was expected of him, and loved the adventure that came with the unknown. He never lacked in anything really; there was always food enough to go around, and even during the lean times, there were stories to share; the Crew did everything--feasted together, starved together, grieved together, laughed together, worked together. There were maps to study, star charts to read, and while he wasn't Harper trained, he knew shanty's, Teaching Songs (sometimes with modified lyrics) and ballads all from the crew. What more did he need? He had his brother and Litanuth as a playmate (when the blue tolerated it, of course), other crew mates, and his Dad. Life was wonderful, even when it wasn't, and he couldn't wait to grow old on the sea.

Unfortunately, life didn't go as expected.

Thread returned, and while H'aal and Litanuth managed to save most of them, the ship and its Captain were lost. Everything was chaos and grief, and all Razanel could think about was a return to normal. He was only 14, after all, and it hadn't really sunk in that their way of life might well be over. With Thread's return--an ancient legend, really--Razanel could hardly understand what Pern's future would be. While life on the sea might have been up in the air, what wasn't was when dragon riders from High Reaches came in on Search...

And much to his surprise, both he and his brother were selected as Candidates. It was a future he never really considered. One dragon was almost too much for ship life, and it had almost been a fluke... But with no ship, and fighters needed to prepare for the Enemies return, perhaps this was simply a change of the wind. Razanel accepted, and along with his twin, was sent to High Reaches Weyr.

H'aal and Litanuth, much to his surprise, joined them... and the young man has spent the past few Turns getting accustomed to life in the mountains. While he's had his share of trouble, he's also fallen into step more easily than he would have imagined; orders, drills, and the militant style High Reaches enforces its rules isn't new to him. He still misses the water, the beaches, and isn't keen on snow--but he's learned to roll with the punches.

Other: He is a great swimmer and actually enjoys maps and star charts, for all that he's known to be a hardy, brauny sort. He also likely has a few piercings procured during time at various ports.
