Name: Rayarner
Age: 18
Nameday: 3559.07.03
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Girls are pretty...but boys are handsome too...
Craft: Weyrbrat
Rank: Candiate
Location: High Reaches Weyr
Physical Description: Rayarner is...large. He's tall, broad, and thick. Everything about the young man says he picks things up and he puts things down. Heavy things. Frequently. His complexion is surprisingly fair for someone who is outdoors often and he doesn't seem to burn easily, a fact he is quite thankful for. He wears his dark brown - nearly black - hair short and out of the way, leaving his violet eyes quite visible. He has a strong nose and jawline and the most infectious and perfect smile you every did see, all white, straight teeth and genuine joy. Traditionally handsome, Rayarner dresses for comfort over fashion and somehow makes even the most bland tunic and pants an outfit to drool over. Probably because he fills everything out so nicely....boy got booty.
Personality: Ah, Rayarner. A gentle giant if ever there was one. Those who don't know him may judge him by appearances first, labeling him as someone who was holier than thou, high and mighty, or so narcissistic he wouldn't give someone the time of day if they asked. All of that couldn't be further from the truth. Rayarner is the type of man to go out of his way to help an older woman carry a heavy bag, or help an injured wherry and nurse it back to health, or take a fellow Candidate some food from the dining hall if they weren't feeling that good. Rayarner is, at his core, a warm-hearted and kind young man who is surprisingly in touch with his emotions. He understands the power of a hug, an ear to listen, a shoulder to lean on. Though he seems big and scary, Rayarner couldn't be more kind. He is always very careful with people or creatures that are smaller than him, ever fearful he'll hurt someone on accident. The thought of one day being the cause of a fellow rider's injuries eats away at him at times, even though that scenario is far off in the future. His gentle nature is echoed in how he treats everyone, from the Weyrwoman to the lowest drudges. Everything is yes sir, no ma'am, please, thank you. Rayarner looks at everyone as human no matter their rank and each human deserves the same amount of respect. He is the furthest thing from a traditional High Reaches man as possible, not caring about whatever rank he might one day receive or what color dragon might Impress him. On top of everything, Rayarner always has the best intentions at heart. Whatever he does he does to help, to fix, to ease a hardship, even if the outcome or the means to see his goal through isn't the best way to get something done. He always has everyone else's wants and needs at the back of his mind and he tries to anticipate what someone might be lacking so he can help fix whatever is wrong.

For all his shining qualities, Rayarner certainly has his pitfalls. The first of which is that the poor boy is as thick as his thighs. Studying comes incredibly hard and even giving his best effort usually yields mediocre results. He always gives it his best effort and devotes a lot of time to remedial lessons, studying with a tutor, and reviewing his notes in his free time but Rayarner just doesn't have a head for numbers, for memorization, for history, for strategy. If someone tells him to do something he can do it, but if he has to try to think things through on his own it's a struggle. He'll get there eventually but it's usually long after everyone got there, ate dinner, and went to bed. Rayarner is incredibly clumsy, still getting used to the size of his body after being a fairly normal sized child. He sprung up in the past two Turns and he's constantly tripping or jamming his feet and shins into things, bumping his head on low-hanging fixtures, dropping stuff, bumping into people...he generally manages not to break anything or hurt anyone, but the occasional flailing elbow has definitely caught a nose or two in a crowd. His obliviousness to his surroundings certainly doesn't help his clumsiness. Often times if Rayarner devoted a bit of his attention to where he was walking he could avoid the bumps and bruises he acquired, or he could save his mother's favorite vase from falling off the table after bumping into it. The obliviousness extends to other things as well, like understanding certain concepts or jokes that other people are talking about. He often seems to be off in his own little world, eyes unfocused and lips moving as he speaks to himself. Unfortunately he's quite easy to take advantage of as well. Rayarner tries to find the good in people even when it's not there and those who are more cunning than him (who is just about everyone, if we're being honest) can easily trick him into doing things for them or believing what they tell him. Rayarner, during his first Turn as a Candidate, once sat in a classroom for the whole night because an older Candidate told him if he didn't, he wouldn't get a seat for the class the next day as there were lots of new intakes the Turn he was able to start Standing. Most of the time things like that roll like water of a duck's back, but Rayarner isn't stupid enough to miss when people are being cruel to him. He does remember when others slight him and, if they do, he tends to keep out of their way.
Positive Trait List Warm-hearted, respectful, well-intentioned, gentle
Negative Trait List Dense, clumsy, oblivious, gullible
History: The product of a goldflight fling, Rayarner was born to a young kitchen worker at High Reaches Weyr. He was raised as any weyrbrat would be, playing with other children in the creche and pretending to be riders and dragons. Rayarner always ended up playing the role of the dragon since he was a bit more sturdy than the other kids his age and could carry them around on his back longer, and he loved every second of it.

Just before Rayarner was due to become a Candidate Thread returned to Pern. He watched as the dragons and their riders rose up to defend his home and felt a surge of pride within him. That was going to be him one day, taking to the skies with his partner to save people. It was such a wonderful thought that he didn't realize just how terrible Thread truly was until the refugees and survivors of the Threadfall came into the weyr. Sure, he knew Thread was dangerous, but he'd never seen it in action before. It was terrifying, but now he knew why the role of a dragonrider was so important. He couldn't let that happen to anyone else!

As he grew Rayarner worked harder and harder to do well in his Candidate lessons. As he changed from a young, gangly teen to a filled out young man, his mother finally told him that his father was a bronzerider here in the weyr. He was starting to look so much like him that she didn't want it to come as a surprise should they ever cross paths or if someone should ask. Surprised but curious, Rayarner kept the information to his chest, unsure if his father wanted to know about him. Clearly he wasn't aware since his mother had only just told him now. That would be something to explore when the dragonriders weren't so busy, perhaps. Knowing his father rode a bronze dragon brought a little bit of pride to the young man even though he'd be proud of his father riding any dragon. Just knowing that being a rider was in his blood, that his father was out there defending Pern only encouraged him to study harder, to try to put in even more effort to bettering himself. He needed to be ready for the day he'd join the ranks of the riders to help protect his planet and the people on it.
Other: His father is Thedred played by Cheri
