Name: Versha (goes by Vera)
Age: 18 - 2.17.3557
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: You, of course~
Craft: Entertainer/Circus Performer/Thief
Rank: Candidate
Location: High Reaches
Physical Description: Versha is a petite yet strong young lady, her body that of an acrobat. She stands at 5'3 and sports straight, jet black hair that ends around mid-back. She usually has it up in some intricate design while working to keep it out of the way, only letting it down when relaxing. Her facial features are soft, her rounded face and dark brown almond-shaped eyes the very picture of innocence and gentility. Her movements are graceful and purposeful in everything she does and rarely will you find her off balance or stumbling about.

Versha generally wears brightly colored yet practical clothing, switching from skirts and dresses to pants as the need calls for it. Pockets are her favorite part of any outfit, though, and she'll sew some onto a garment if there aren't any already there. She'll wear a bit of makeup from time to time but it's generally fairly understated, just enough to emphasize her eyes or her lips should the situation call for it
Personality: Versha grew up living to expect the unexpected, and as such has mastered the art of rolling with the punches. Sometimes food was easy to come by, other times you had to literally fight for it. Versha doesn't complain when things change and instead adapts to the situation, switching gears in the blink of an eye. She has lived in all types of environments and has learned that standing out can be a good thing, but so can blending in. Being able to change is one of her most vital skills she's learned and she keeps it close to her always. Part of being able to change at the drop of a hat has to do with her charismatic personality. Charming your way into a wealthy man's heart can come in very handy when you and your sister are starving, after all. Being able to win the affection and trust of those around her was incredibly important, as well as being likable during performances. That money ain't gonna throw itself! The natural charisma is a blessing, because Versha trusts no one but her sister. All of her promises, fancy words, shy glances, and bold actions are nothing but an act. She's a performer, an entertainer, and at the end of the day she'll lie and say whatever is going to get her the most Marks.Versha feels little remorse in her deceit as - generally - the people have paid for a service that she and her sister deliver upon. It has certainly burned some bridges in the past and there are former wealthy benefactors that can no longer be sought out for a meal, but there's always someone else with fat pockets and a lonely heart looking for a show to take their minds off their own misery.

There are times, however, when Versha changes her tactics. It's usually during desperate times that she'll use her and her sister's talents to lift a few purses off the unsuspecting, and there may have been a few dozen situations where a knife might have been pressed to a man's back and threats whispered in his ear, but Versha has never killed over a pouch of Marks. She was ready to do so if the situation turned bad, but she and Verica picked their targets well and thankfully never had to resort to that.

Due to the occasional hold-ups, the twins were constantly on the move, sometimes going it solo and other times joining up with traveling performers. Versha was always thinking two steps ahead, planning where they would go next, what parts of Pern they had yet to visit and the odds of running into someone they already knew. She made their route strange and difficult to track, sometimes doubling back or moving for weeks on end before settling in one place again. Her mind is always turning, always crunching numbers and figuring out new plans and ways to survive. Those thoughts sometimes turn to less than savory tactics, like new performances to practice while slipping through the audience to take a bit extra from their enthralled guests. Intelligence goes both ways, after all, and while she can use her mind for constructive things, Versha often uses it to scheme and plot as well.

Another of Versha's downfalls that she shares with her sister is that she is impulsive. Perhaps less so than Verica, but she'll leap before she looks and will trust her gut in times of quick decision making. Sometimes it works out, but for the most part the knee-jerk reactions make the situations worse. It's a trait about herself that she loathes and she strives to make herself stop and think, but having grown up without a home and on the road, sometimes it's better to act first and think later, even if it's as simple as running away. That being said, whatever Versha does she does it with confidence. There is no hesitation in Versha's actions and she feels as though she can learn from mistakes that are made. Her motto is it's easier to ask forgiveness than to get permission. While there are moments when Versha is nervous or scared, she does her best to hide it under the confidence that has kept her going for so long.
Positive Trait List Adaptable, charismatic, intelligent, confident
Negative Trait List Ruthless, impulsive, machiavellian, deceitful
History: Versha came into the world just a few minutes behind her sister and from day one life was an adventure. Born to a performing mother, Versha grew up knowing nothing but travel, fun, and acrobatics. Her mother taught her everything she knew about tumbling, dancing, and pleasing a crowd (as much as a young girl could learn, at least), but when she passed away after a high wire act gone wrong the traveling performers took her under their wings. Versha adapted well to having many parents rather than one, learning from each 'uncle' and 'aunt' and 'cousin' as she grew. Little Rag, they'd called her affectionately, since she loved to soak up all the information she could from anyone that was willing to teach her. Sleight of hand, complicated acrobatics, working a crowd...Versha drank it all in and applied her skills whenever their group reached a new town.

Once she was old enough, Versha and her sister began to perform their own act within the show that their traveling troupe put on. It was during one of these shows when Thread returned, wiping out almost all of their friends and family. Those that escaped with their lives had terrible wounds to show for it, though miraculously Versha managed to make it through unscathed physically. Seeing the utter destruction and pain around her, however, caused her to take Verica, their meager belongings, and together they fled.

Living on their own wasn't the worst thing in the world, Versha came to discover. It was hard at first, but soon she adapted to having only her sister to rely on. They had a skill set that saw they didn't starve and always had a bit of money on them for shelter, clothing, or other necessities. Versha had them travel the old routes of their former group until she began to wonder what was beyond the well-trod roads and paths? Curiosity got the best of her and she diverted their path, visiting new towns and cities and leaving little trace of their presence behind.

After a few years of life on the road, Versha found herself and her sister confronted by a dragon from High Reaches Weyr. It was a bit startling as she'd never seen a dragon up close - it was HUGE! (it was a white dragon, so not really) - and Versha was wary of the offer that came from the beast and the dragonrider. A chance to stand among the Candidates to perhaps Impress a dragon of her own? She wasn't nearly as excited as others might be, but the promise of a secure place to sleep and food was too tempting. She and Verica agreed and were brought back to High Reaches to begin their training.

Versha adapted well to her new life. It was a bit like being with the traveling group, she realized. There was a schedule, higher ups to listen to, lots of bustle and things were never dull. Though Versha does miss the freedom she had for the past few years, she's not one to look a giftdragon in the mouth. If she can have a few years of safe lodgings and free food, she'll take it. The longer she's been at High Reaches the more the idea of being a dragon rider appeals to her, though she's certainly wary of the commitment it requires.
Other: Versha will eventually discover she has a terrible fear of heights to the point of being completely debilitated over a certain height. Should she Impress flying lessons are going to be very difficult until she can either break or come to accept the fear.

DRAGON
Name: Skurkurth
Personality At his core, Skurkurth is an undisciplined little blue. Why must I do that? I don't want to! I want to do this instead! If something is phrased in a way that suggested little to no wiggle room, you bet Skurkurth is going to make a stink about it. Giving him options is a good way to avoid this sort of reaction, though even then sometimes he'll stick his nose up to what he's being told to do. Only his rider can convince him to obey - and perhaps a gold - and it's only due to his unwavering loyalty to her that he'll finally cave. Versha will certainly get a mindful while he's doing it, though! His loyalty will be given to other people and dragons in time as they earn it, though it is hard-won. He wishes it was easier to be loyal to his Weyr, but there's just so many rules...but of course, so long as Versha is happy to live at High Reaches, Skurkurth will complain but remain.

One of Skurkurth's favorite things to do is annoy other dragons. He loves seeing how they react, who can withstand his bothering the longest, who will play pacifist and who will retaliate. He'll find his favorite dragons to bother and will shadow them relentlessly because it's just so much fun! His sly little mind is always cooking up ways to tease and prank and set up his siblings, his wingmates, the random weyrless dragon who is just spending the night to make them look foolish, to make them feel silly, or some other (mostly) harmless reaction. There are times, however, when his pranks and games and teasing become too much and the retaliation is more severe. Skurkurth will hold his ground, never the one to deny his own irritating ways, and will take whatever the dragon has to give him (and return it with interest if he's able). While certainly annoying, Skurkurth is never cruel. He commits all his irritating with a mental smirk, a haughty walk to his step, a tilt of his head that would suggest laughter were he able to vocalize in that way. Everyone loves a bit of a bad boy, right? ....right? He thinks so, at the very least, and surely there's someone out there who is quietly swooning in their den as they watch him. Completely confident that his mischievous tendencies will bag him a weyrmate some day, Skurkurth has no shame in flirting with his targets or anyone watching whatever scene he's making.

Remember that loyalty we were talking about earlier? Let's go back to that now that we've dragged this poor boy through the mud. That hard-won loyalty is a priceless gift, for once you unlock Skurkurth's hearts, you have a side of the blue that is rarely seen. Underneath his bravado and impishness is a dragon that any rider would wish they had. Skurkurth is incredibly supportive and accepting of any and all shortcomings and handicaps someone may have. He is Versha's confidant and shoulder to lean on when facing her rather inconvenient fear of heights and has many an inspirational word for any that need it. He would never tease or provoke someone for a shortcoming that they cannot help and instead is a pillar of strength for any that need to be accepted for what they are. Versha accepts Skurkurth's rebelliousness and welcomed him with open arms, who would he be to not do the same? He encourages those close to him and always seems to know just what to say to boost someone's confidence or help make a scary task a little less daunting.

From the tip of his nose to the prongs of his tail, Skurkurth is imbued with bravery. He holds his ground in confrontations, never running from the mess he's made. He'll be the first to defend a helpless wingmate or hold from Thread. He'd stand up to a colorist dragon without flinching even if they were twice his size. Skurkurth knows fear and understands the emotion but he doesn't let it rule him. To live in a weyr like High Reaches and to not fall into line like everyone else demands bravery, even if some might call it stupidity. Skurkurth knows himself and he knows his own, and anyone who truly knows the blue would agree that his bravery knows no limits.
Positive Traits: Loyal, accepting, supportive, brave.
Negative Traits: Undisciplined, instigator, sly, roguish.
Egg Size: Small
Adult Size: 56'
Physical Attributes: Skurkurth is average in his stature, not too long and not too short. He's fairly average in muscle mass as well and doesn't have any distinct physical features that set him apart from other blues aside from his color and patterns. He's agile and quick like his color should be but certainly not the fastest nor most agile out there. He does have more stamina than his average blue brethren, letting him fight long and hard against Thread...and whatever else he wants to fight against.
Additional Notes: Skurkurth's flame is hot and long and he's quite proud of it, thank you very much. Accuracy is something he struggles with, though, so he'll have a reputation as a bit of a reckless flamer if Versha can't keep him under wraps during the fight.

Ever the instigator, Skurkurth will join flights for the sole purpose of irritating the other chasers. He doesn't care much if he wins the affection of the green, though if chosen he certainly will catch her, but in terms of romance he prefers his fellow males. Bronze, brown, blue, white, all are equal in his eyes (though bronzes can be extremely irritating sometimes...but who doesn't like a challenge? wink )

The color hierarchy in High Reaches - and just about anything orderly and rule-heavy - does not sit well with Skurkurth. It will be a rocky road for him and Versha to prove they're trustworthy enough to fight Thread properly and they'll probably end up graduating late because of his distain for authority.

Why Me: Skurkurth knew when Versha touched his shell that her cheerful, curious exterior was only partly genuine. He could sense the cunning strategist underneath her friendly shell, the sibling who came up with crafty plans and would steal with no remorse to keep her and her sister alive. Her intelligent, ruthless ways that focused on keeping her and her sister fed, safe, and on the move called out to Skurkurth and his own dislike for following rules and listening to what others said. Surely someone who broke the rules of society by stealing and lying would understand his own need to be himself!

Despite Versha's less than stellar qualities being the reason she called to the blue, they do balance one another nicely. Skurkurth is not an easy dragon to like, what with his rather irritating habit of pressing other dragon's buttons and refusing to do as he's told, but Versha's practiced and perfected charismatic ways will definitely help ease the harshness of her dragon. She is adaptable and will learn how to roll with the punches, the fits, the tantrums that Skurkurth throws her way and perhaps Skurkurth will learn, in turn, that sometimes doing as your told is worth the outcome. They are both intelligent in their own way, Versha in more of a strategic mindset and Skurkurth in more of a sneaky way. Two brilliant minds working together will be a true force to be reckoned with and Thread will wish it had never returned.

And, as Skurkurth had hoped, Versha will occasionally indulge him in his rebellious nature, bending the rules just a bit to give him the freedom he wants and needs. In their minds, it's well worth any punishment brought upon them.

I'm okay with the pair of them being troublesome, but I would like an idea of how much trouble they are likely to be. I think you've made it clear that you're willing to accept IC consequences for that, I'm just trying to get an idea of the range at this point and in the presumable future.

It's good that you mentioned Skurkurth's willingness to be someone's strong pillar for weaknesses that they can't help because that helps to bring him more in line with a Pernese dragon (ie: empathetic toward others, etc.).

In one contexts does Skurkurth stand up to colorists dragons and/or buck authority? This could be highly problematic in the future while in a Wing, depending.

I think it honestly depends on how plots go in the future. Skurkurth definitely could resist authority enough to be kicked out of the Weyr, but because Versha's sister is here and he knows how much she means to her he'll manage to keep enough in line that they're not tossed out. As long as Verica is at HR, they won't rock the boat that much. That being said, they'd definitely be a pair to be reprimanded/punished as weyrlings. As he gets older and their bond gets stronger his disobedience will be something Versha can handle but right now it'll be a struggle.

He'd backtalk/refuse to do as he's told, though he'd never start a physical altercation or take revenge for punishments handed down. Maybe once when they're cleared to fly in a wing he'll push back enough to have them grounded for a few months and he'll see how frustrated Versha is and that will help him keep his disgruntled comments to himself XD; At the end of the day they won't try to undermine authority to the point of it being a problem OOCly and I'm definitely okay with them doin' the time that's fitting the crime, as it were. Versha wants to be there and wants to fight Thread and at the end of the day, Skurkurth does too.

And obviously, if he ever needs to be toned down I can definitely do that -w-b

I think this is okay and good to go so long as you also remember that dragons, even the most disobedient, still have an instinctual hierarchy and chain of command. You see it in flits regularly in the books, and the same stands with dragons. He might be a brown but there are still metallics who can push around if need be. He might not like it but it is literally built into them and inherited from nature. As well as an actual need to fight Thread/defeat the Enemy.

I can see him being a disaster at some place like Western though. LOL

That said, so long as you don't assume he's pulled off obstinate behavior, or "gotten away" with things when he WOULD be called out on and punished for, should be fine. We're happy to talk with you about what punishment would happen or how something might be pulled off if you'd like!

Sorry for the extra squint (and delay) over little brown! We've been burned n the past so just need to make sure they stick within the Pern dragon boundaries.

I look forward to seeing how he grows.
