The Rider

Name: T’iru (formerly Taniru)
Age: 25
Nameday: 3552.03.04
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Not a clue!
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Tanner

Physical Description: Powerfully-built and tall, T’iru could be a towering and intimidating presence if he wasn’t so damn smiley all the time. He has dark hair that’s been sun bleached with a reddish hue, and tends to be a bit messy due to his tendency to crop it himself when it gets in his way. His skin is slightly tan due to all the time he spends outside… and it’s not uncommon to see him with quite the sunburn. He has a smattering of freckles as a result.

Personality: A boisterous and friendly individual, it’s rare for T’iru to meet a person he doesn’t like. He’s social by nature and will happily integrate himself with any groups or individuals nearby. He doesn’t know them? No problem! He’s not shy about introducing himself, and loners, beware! T’iru doesn’t understand ‘go away’ vibes and is comfortable in all sorts of situations. He is a bit more understanding of people who might be put off by his appearance, but he promises, he’s a good person! Er, well, he hopes he is…

On top of being a people person, T’iru is just… nice. Someone he knows is having a bad day? He’ll swing by with a bubbly pie or some other little gift in hopes of cheering them up. Does he see someone struggling with something? You better believe he’ll be right there to help! Even if it’s not something within his power to grant, T’iru will still ask if there’s anything he can do. Seeing people happy makes him happy, so it’s natural for him to pitch in wherever he can.

Unfortunately, T’iru is not the sharpest tool in the shed. He will never be a very smart man, and he is extraordinarily easy to take advantage of. Those who also attempt to convey deeper meanings through wordplay will not have much success with T’iru. Things need to be spoken plainly or else they’ll fly right over his head. He can also be oblivious about people’s real feelings as well. If someone’s secretly upset but insists they’re fine? Well, okay! They must be alright!

T’iru can be an incredibly reckless person, and he rarely thinks of the consequences before diving headfirst into situations. He’s a big, strong guy! He should be able to handle stuff, right? Yeah… not always. Whether it’s a stupid bet, or a chance (in his mind) to prove himself somehow, T’iru often eagerly leaps long before he looks.

Positive Trait List Sociable, Generous, Sweet
Negative Trait List Reckless, Dumb, Oblivious

History: Taniru has lived a fairly uneventful life thus far. He was born in a small Hold on the Western continent, the oldest of three siblings. His mother was a Baker, and his father was a skilled enough Journeyman Tanner to have his own small shop. When Taniiru was of age, he followed his father’s footsteps, able to apply himself enough to the craft to find that he enjoyed it. It was a good but simple life, and had Thread never returned, he likely would have inherited his father’s shop one day.

But Thread did return, and while their little Hold was spared the devastation that some suffered, Pern would never be the same again. When a dragon came riding in Search, Taniru felt compelled to take his chances at the Weyr. It just felt like the right thing to do--if he didn’t succeed and become a dragonrider, he could always come back home and help. His mother and father wished him well, and there were some tearful goodbyes before Taniru was brought back to Western Weyr.

Weyr life was entirely different than anything Taniru ever knew, but he good-naturedly threw himself into his lessons and did his best. He certainly wasn’t the best student, but that was nothing that remedial lessons couldn’t help with.

He stood at every Hatching with the same cheerful confidence he always had, and it wasn’t until he participated in a Candidate swap for Zenobiath and Aresoth’s clutch that he met his Maharath.

Other: Originally from Western but got lucky during a swap, whoo!

The Dragon

Dragon Name: Maharath
Origin of Name: Maharath is named after the title of the man that saved the breed from extinction in the first half of the 20th century-- Maharaja Umaid Singhji.
Inspiration: Marwari

Personality: Behold, High Reaches, Maharath is here! This dragon is unafraid and confident in everything he does. He knows himself to be a true warrior and will throw himself into training and drills alike in order to best prepare for the war against the ancient enemy. This is not a shy dragon, and he will scoff at any who shy away from their duty. Fear not, brothers and sisters. Though he believes the battleground is no place for the cowardly, he will still risk life and limb to protect his fellows. The thought of pain, injury, or even death does not deter him, and he will always rise to meet any challenge. He is an intelligent, decisive creature, and he thinks fast on his feet. Maharath will carry himself with honor and dignity, and if he sees himself as an example to be looked up to, who can blame them?

No matter his color, Maharath believes himself to be a superb specimen. He expects to be the best at what he does and he will gently brush off any suggestion that he is not. He knows his worth, and the opinions’ of others won’t make much of an impact. When it comes to fighting, well, he'll point out ways to improve to his fellows--even if the advice is unwanted. He is an intelligent dragon who picks up on things quickly, and his drive to fight keeps him from getting too distracted or bored when it comes to drills. He is more than willing to assist if others are having difficulties… but it may unintentionally come off as condescending. Though his pride may not win him many friends, that won’t bother Maharath one bit.

What can and will rile this dragon up is when situations go wrong, and there’s nothing he can do to salvage it. A bad decision on his part means a wingmate ends up getting hurt? A chase he should have won slipping right through his claws? Misjudging his own flame length and missing a bit of Thread he should have easily had? Inexcusable. Maharath can quickly grow snappy and surly if things do not work out as he intended, and his temper can be legendary. He’ll need to be coaxed back into good humor by their rider or else he’ll be inclined to sulk. To top it all off, he is picky by nature and inclined to fuss if things aren’t exactly how he wants them. This pickiness can revolve around his food, his riding leathers… and yes, even how his rider presents himself.

Positive Traits: Bold, Noble, Intelligent
Negative Traits: Arrogant, Temperamental, Picky

NPC Egg: A small egg.

Adult Size: 70’.

]Physical Attributes: An elegantly crafted creature, Maharath is beautiful and knows it. Slender limbed with a deep, muscular chest, whis back tapers in a smooth slope down into a long and graceful tail. Though he will never be a brawny creature, he has a surprising amount of stamina for his size. A particularly notable trait of Maharath’s appearance is that his head knobs curve inward, nearly to the point where they touch.

Additional Notes: Maharath will always be ready for battle and welcomes the fight against the ancient enemy. His tendency to show off, however, might land him in hot water with no way out. It will be up to his rider to keep the showy moves and theatrics to a minimum less he endanger himself or his fellows

If he does end up injured and out of commission for any length of time, Maharath is prone to depression. He will show little interest in eating, and there is a real risk of him becoming underweight.

Impression Effect: Impression will give T’iru a little more insight than he once possessed so he no longer takes things quite so literally. His recklessness will be tempered with the knowledge that his life is now linked with Maharath’s, so he might think twice before throwing himself into dangerous situations.

Why Me? Maharath was immediately drawn to T’iru’s kind and generous nature, finding a kindred spirit in the young man who left his peaceful life for the chance to fight. With his help, they have no doubt that T’iru will become every inch of a noble dragonrider. T’iru’s general sweetness will help to smooth out some of Maharath’s more arrogant edges when dealing with others, and he’ll always be able to coax his dragon out of their more irritable fits of tempers. For T’iru, Maharath would move the stars themselves… so they suppose they can set aside their grudges. For now.
