Thresher returns to her home town on the small Island of Heiwajima, to speak to her father about bringing out the true power of Kabutowari. In doing so, she brings Miyuki along to introduce her to the family and possibly give the Kage a much needed break.

She hit the dock with a dull thud, making the wood creak under the sudden weight of the Hoshigaki and Kabutowari. But the wood held strong as Thresher stood up tall, taking in the sight of her home village, Heiwajima. The sound and smell of the sea filled the woman’s senses for the first time in years. But being back home put a smile on her face as the warm sun beat down from above. “C’mon M’yuki!” Thresher turned back to the boat, a much more subtle travel vessel than was worthy of a Kage. But it was sturdy enough, even if it did perpetually smell like fish. “Ya can’t keep people waitin’ jus’ ‘cause yer a fancy Kage now!” Thresher teased. The shinobi was dressed in only her casual clothes, forgoing any of her usual armor of Hunter Mask. Much like before her Oinin days, all she had was Kabutowari strapped to her back.

Miyuki felt uneasy on the boat; she was feeling a bit of separation anxiety from the village despite all of her advisors, CORE members, caricature creations, and clones. She could check on things at any time but not physically being there was making it difficult to focus, on top of all of the village-centric concerns that frequented her mind at all times these days.
But she put on a smile for Thresher. She was happy to be with the Hoshigaki - though the task at hand was intimidating in its own right. Plus, it was always a treat to be by Thresher when she was tastefully dressed down. "Alright, alright, I will pick up the pace," she relented with a laugh, also wearing her pre-kage gear that hit combat-casual with notes of formal wear. "I still think we should have been able to have some reconnaissance. It would have been helpful to get into the minds of our... objective," she said, carefully avoiding the term 'target' even though this was definitely a high-stakes mission in her mind.

tab“Huh?" Thresher tilted her head, mostly at the vocabulary that Miyuki was using. Confusion was evident on her face before she understood. “Yer talkin’ nonsense!” She went on, locking her arm with the Kage’s with a huge grin plastered on her face. Thresher guided the two of them off of the dock and into the village proper. “Objective? Reconnaissance? M’yuki, I lived here for years! I know this place like th’ back’a my hand!” The swordswoman leaned down and placed a soft kiss on the artists cheek. “Trust me, everythin’ will be okay.” She added in a quieter, more assuring tone.
That preceded Thresher leading Miyuki to the different dead ends around Heiwajima. “Uhhhh, maybe it’s been a bit since I visited home.” She admitted with a nervous chuckle. “Oh!” The woman’s face brightened as she had an idea. “Since we’re lost, let's sightsee! Ya wanted t’ do recon anyway!” Thresher grabbed Miyuki’s hand firmly and ran deeper and deeper into the village. Miyuki would see various other people, all of them working in some way and all of them sharing more than a few fish-like characteristics. Some of them waved to Thresher, who waved back energetically before running by. It was obvious that she was excited to be back home, her usual lackadaisical attitude replaced by an abundance of energy.
“Awright, we’re ‘ere!” Thresher stopped running and turned to face Miyuki, proudly displaying a bustling city square behind her. “I knew if we ran enough we’d reach th’ center!” She added, rubbing her finger underneath her nose. “Now, whatcha wanna do first? Food, shop, or lookaround?”

Miyuki was silent at Thresher's assertion that she knew this place like the back of her hand, but let it go. She was sure she could trust Thresher to lead them around, though the Ukyo was very unfamiliar with leaving herself in the dark, with having to wholly trust someone else's decision-making because she didn't have enough information to make them herself. It's something she wouldn't have tolerated from anyone else; she would have put her foot down an demanded to know all the variables at play. But this was Thresher. Miyuki could circumvent her own rules or philosophies or expectations for Thresher simply because she loved her.
Not that getting them lost was helping her case, or anything. Miyuki raised a brow at the Hoshigaki, though she followed her inspired girlfriend without much complaint. They were allies on this diplomatic mission and it would do no good to quarrel amongst themselves, Miyuki reasoned.
"Ah, so you admit we are lost?" Her amusement was unavoidable. She huffed a laugh at Thresher's suggestion. "I am starting to wonder if you actually know these things or if you are just playing it by ear," she mused as she looked around the busy square. "I would like some recon on your father; more information about his schedule, his likes, his history, the people he surrounds himself with..." She trailed off as she watched someone walking past with a plate filled with warm bok choy and sesame seeds. Before she could comment on it, her stomach rumbled. She hung her head a bit and sighed. "Okay, okay. Recon after some of that."

tab“Promise me you’ll relax a li’l and I’ll tell ya all ya wanna know.” Thresher grinned, following Miyuki’s gaze to the food. She only looked for a moment, before appreciating the soft beauty that was the Arashikage. The soft light of Heiwajima reflected off of Miyuki’s skin in a way that made her look even more radiant than normal, even when she was sullen. It made Thresher’s pulse quicken and the Hoshigaki went to reach out for her girlfriend’s hand.
It was short lived, however, as something caught Thresher’s instincts. The woman’s eyes narrowed as she spun around to a call. “Thresherrrrrr!!” A large man was rushing her, easily standing taller than her and built with far more bulk. He was holding a hammer about the size of Miyuki like it was nothing, and brought it crashing down on the Jonin. Thresher jumped back, standing between the man and Miyuki while also pushing them away from the blow. The hammer hit the ground, cratering the plaza and destroying the stone with rubble.
Thresher reached one hand across to shield Miyuki, while her other hand went to grab Kabutowari. “Stay back.” She said sternly, getting ready for a fight as the man lifted his hammer from the ground. Without waiting for a response, Thresher rushed forward. Low to the ground, she locked the cord on Kabutowari and swung the staff mode of this weapon at the man’s legs with a gust creating swing!

Miyuki's eyes widened as Thresher pushed her away from a huge hammer blow. Immediately, Miyuki went on the defensive even as Thresher charged - it tore up the Ukyo that their diplomatic mission was going to be met with violence already. She didn't want to get messed up from the fight and appear unpresentable to Thresher's father. As Thresher moved forward to assault the attacker, Miyuki grabbed her ink brush. She wasn't ready for a fight, not at all, and so it took her a moment to dip her brush into her mouth and produce ink. She then took one knee, giving her stability to pull a scroll from her side and put her brush to it. She turned her eyes from the opponent in order to paint a tiger caricature to attack the man from behind, going for his ankles so he would be immobilized and forced to take the brunt of Thresher's swing [ ▰ Super Beast Caricature [ Choujuu Giga ] | Rank B | [Giga] ]. "I'm really regretting our lack of reconnaissance!"

The moment the brush is removed or sign is made, the images leap from the paper, grow to life-size, and act according to the user's will. The creation lasts indefinitely until struck with a technique equal to or higher than its rank or a number of posts have passed correspondent to the [Giga] technique. Messages can also be contained within these creations so that when they reach a specified surface or location they can disperse into the inked message. Any creation has [1] activation per post to perform a method of attack equal to or lower than its rank. Once the Giga uses all the chakra spent used to comprise its form it vanishes.

tabThe attacker managed to swing his hammer down to stop Thresher’s blow right in its tracks! A burst of wind and force exploded out from the two, causing weaker onlookers to get pushed back by inches. The cord for Kabutowari loosened and allowed Thresher to grip the hammer half, swinging it in a wide but quick arc straight down. It forced the man to jump back, but that was all the Jonin needed to push forward. The shark gripped the axe portion and thrust forward with the top spike rapidly. The man dodged easily, moving swiftly and gracefully despite his hulking size. He waited for the right chance to rush in after a thrust and slam his shoulder into the woman’s chest.
The blow staggered Thresher back but she recovered quickly. With a roar she dragged the hammer of Kabutowari into the ground, using her incense strength to send a hailstorm of stone at the man, blinding him. Thresher then sent Kabutowari flying from her hands, flinging the massive weapon, the cord tightening so the axe and hammer portions spun in equally deadly measure. The attacker recovered just in time to duck underneath the massive weapon, and rose to attack Thresher now that she was empty handed.
So the Jonin pulled her hand back with an effort of chakra, focusing on the link between her and her weapon. The weapon was recalled, stopping mid flight to crash hammer first into the back of the man’s neck. The strike rang out with a powerful crack, forcing the massive ox of a man to stumble forward and weakening him enough for Miyuki’s jutsu. The Giga Ink creation came out and pounced at his legs, bringing him to the ground and holding him there.
Thresher slung her weapon onto her back and walked up to look down at the man. Surprisingly her expression was more exasperated than angry. “Roa, what’re ya tryna pull gettin’ the drop on us like tha’?” Thresher sighed and shook her head. Then she growled and jabbed him with her foot. There was no malice behind the kick, just a frustration similar to two siblings. “An’ ya coulda hurt M’yuki!” She continued, pointing a finger behind her at the Kage while baring her fangs, Thresher’s eyes becoming white orbs. “Dumbass… Are ya okay, sweet thing?” Thresher turned over her shoulder to look at Miyuki. Concern was evident on her face, but given that she knew the artist could handle herself and how short the brawl had been, it wasn’t too strong.

Miyuki was absolutely amazed at the way Thresher fought. With the lighting, it could have been a classical painting. She desperately wanted to paint her girlfriend moving like this but she wouldn't have time at all on the trip, even if this fight didn't end up forcing them to return home. But it was over almost as soon as it had begun thanks to Thresher. "I am fine." But her brow was furrowed like a question, and she hesitated as she tried to think of which one to ask first.
So she settled for both. "You know this man? And how did you do that thing with your sword?" It was something that had taken her a little training to get into the habit of doing, but most people, apparently, didn't care for being covered in her ink. "This really wasn't how I expected our little excursion to go," she said thoughtfully, though a small smile appeared on her face just a moment later. Then the sharkwoman bent down and offered a hand to the massive man, removing her foot from his chest. He took it with a grunt as the Jonin helped him to his feet. “An’, th’ second thing. Uh. How t’ explain.” She rubbed the back of her head and looked up in thought while Roa dusted himself off. “It’s like I got this bond with Kabutowari or somethin’. So wit’ some chakra, I can call it back t’me easy-peasy.”
“So someone stupid enough to give someone like you a Legendary Sword came around, huh?” Roa asked with a rumbling voice. He looked at Thresher with a blank, if not stone-like, expression.
“‘Ey!” Thresher snapped. Her eyes were little white circles as she glared at Roa, holding a fist at him. “I’ll have you know I’m plenty strong enough to handle it! Stronger’n you anyway!”
“I meant ‘cause you’re dumb!” He snarled back, slamming and pressing his forehead against hers. “D-U-M-B! Dumb!” The two growled at each other for a few seconds before erupting into a quick brawl, complete with a cloud of smoke.
An undefined amount of time passed before the three of them were sitting at a food covered table. Thresher and Roa both silently sipped from their drinks, covered in small bandages and cuts. “So you’re back to see your old man, huh?” Roa asked, going to take bites from his pasta. “Why?”
Thresher waited until she had less, but not no, fried fish in her mouth before answering. “I’ve been gettin’ a little flabby livin’ in Arashi, so I’m hopin’ some trainin’ with him will strengthen my core.” Thresher gulped her food down and sat up from her hunched position before continuing. “An’... I’m havin’ some issues bringin’ out th’ full power of this sword, I think.” She added. Then she smiled proudly and made a gesture to Miyuki. “An’ I wanted t’ intr’duce ‘im t’ M’yuki!”

Miyuki watched the two squabble like siblings and it made her heart ache as she thought about her late sister; while the two Ukyo siblings never fought like that, it was still a close bond that she missed dearly. She never did mess around like Thresher and Roa were. She had had to grow up so quickly that those kind of childish squabbles never painted her life. Not that she didn't appreciate the two sharks dropping it after a few further blows so that all three of them could eat.
She worked at her squid ink pasta as the two spoke, enjoying herself as a wallflower in the conversation. "Mm, well I will not be wishing for more serious threats to come to the village so you can work out your muscles, but I do think a good fight brings out the best in you. Is your father an expert in swords or combat or something? Or does he just know you best?" She not-so-subtly worked to get more information out of Thresher about her family. She hadn't heard mention of any other family members, which was a noted absence.
She made further mental notes about Roa. She wanted to know everything about Thresher so she could make the best decisions for her girlfriend. And that's why she had to use all of her available resources to get the information she couldn't just interrogate Thresher for... so Roa was fair game. "Roa, what does Thresher's father value?"

She was so distracted by her lover’s comment that the Hoshigaki didn’t even answer about her father. Not at first. “He’s jus’... eccentric..” She mumbled, looking away bashfully.
“Glad to see Thresher hasn’t grown out of her angsty teenage phase yet.” Roa laughed and smacked the girl on the back heartily, making her spit up more soda. The ox man turned to Miyuki with a grin on his face before resting an elbow on the table, making himself more comfortable. “Aren’t you the inquisitive type? You’re sure a bonehead like Thresher is right for you?” He asked, earning him a smack from the sharkgirl. “Anyway, if I had to guess…” Roa was pensive for a moment. “I’d have to say family. Thresher’s father is the leader here, so he treats everyone like they’re his own family. Of course, that also makes him the strongest person in the village.” This response got Thresher to slouch down into her chair as she tried to avoid the topic. “She doesn’t like to talk about it ‘cause she doesn’t like special treatment.”
“Okay Roa, I didn’ know you were speakin’ fer me now!” Thresher snapped, getting in his face.

Miyuki raised a pointed brow at Roa's question about whether the two of them were suited together, but Thresher slapped him and Miyuki, unfortunately, couldn't stifle the pleased smile at the sight. But she sobered as Roa revealed more information about Thresher's father. She finished another bite of her food before she pushed the plate away from her slightly and sighed. It really was a good thing that Miyuki wasn't hotheaded like Roa, or she really would be bumping heads with Thresher all the time.
"Thresher," she said calmly as she touched her girlfriend's shoulder. And then she pulled the woman back and looked her in the eye. "To be frank, you do deserve special treatment. You are incredibly special." She cupped Thresher's face and came in for a kiss that was appropriate for a restaurant - something brief, but not unfeeling. "I think your father will be really proud of the warrior you have become. One of my absolute best." Her smile was warm to Thresher before she offered Roa a more serious temperament. "Roa, where would he be right now?"

tabTaken aback by the sudden kiss as she was, Thresher was still quick to reciprocate. It made her feel better and Miyuki’s words put her at ease. She was nervous about seeing her father again after so long. But it wasn’t because the sharkgirl had worries about the fighter she’d become. There was something else, but instead of expanding upon it Thresher just pressed her forehead to Miyuki’s. The hunter nin cupped her hand gently to the back of her Kage’s head, holding it in place for just a moment before letting go. “If I had t’guess, he’s prob’ly a’ th’ Academy righ’ now.” She answered her girlfriend before turning to the bull man. “Righ’, Roa?”
“That’s right.” Roa answered as he sipped his drink. “I’m surprised you know that, though. Are you guys gonna have your duel?”
“Oh I'm sure he'll wanna, so probably. He doesn’ change much. After all these years, I’m sure he’s doin’ the same ol’ thing.” Thresher gently removed herself from the table. Her eyes were closed as she reminisced with a smile on her face. “Gotta make sure th’ next generation’s stronger than th’ last!” She said in a much deeper voice, imitating her father while she pulled out her wallet. Miyuki was pleased to see Thresher relax a bit. The duel was something that still unsettled her a bit, not used to such a warrior culture, but her face expressed no such discomfort. She was in her own head when Thresher rose to her feet and turned to her with a toothy grin. She jolted out of her thoughts and huffed a laugh. "Yes, I am coming," she confirmed as she rose to her feet. She would begin to follow Thresher, examining her own appearance as subtly as she could, wondering if her father would find her clothing to be too traditional or decorative, too fragile and unsuitable for a warrior.
