Peaceful Demigod

PostPosted: Sun Aug 15, 2021 2:03 pm
Name: Shekkeh
Age: 20 turns
Nameday: 3557.09.15
Sex: female
Sexual Orientation: situational
Craft: Trader // Candidate
Rank: n/a
Location: nomadic (trader) // High Reaches
Physical Description: 6’3”, willowy, but with defined musculature, olive skinned with clear complexion, delicate common features, silky ink black hair that falls to her mid back, well maintained and styled, striking mercury silver eyes. She prefers to wear soft flowy clothes in pastel shades.

Personality:
To be successful, and to be of value to her family in their line of work, one must know the right thing to say and when it is alright to say it. A lesson she learned well and early on. After making the mistake of saying the wrong thing to the wife of a small hold’s lord. The punishment incurred left a small crescent shaped scar on her face. All for saying her honest opinion, as a young child might. She hadn’t understood why it was wrong in the moment, but her eldest sister took her aside and explained how there was a proper time and place to say things, and … no matter how true it is, one shouldn’t call anyone else a wherry-brain or ugly as a mining wher. One must be cautious as to how they speak and to whom they speak them to.

AS she grew up, she was able to learn to put such lessons into practice, in bringing in customers to sell their wares, or to negotiate price and shipment details, and how to smooth the ruffled feathers when artisans and suppliers couldn’t see eye to eye. This wasn’t to say that she was always successful - she sometimes said the wrong thing, or favored one party over another a bit too obviously, or she just didn’t know what to say or how, but she always did her best. And with her kind nature, she could still perform well, even if not completely successfully.

It was far from her favorite part of working in the caravan, the tallying of supplies and inventory, and making sure everything added up properly, but often, because of her attention to detail and the fact she wants to do her part for her family and the caravan, she was given just this task. It was her job to ensure they had everything they needed, and could want.

Though, all work and no play makes Shekkeh a dull girl. She wasn’t one to take ‘play’ and treat it like others. She didn’t care about games and physical activity so much. No, for her, play was using her imagination and coming up with stories. Whether it was just to explain something in the world she saw, or perhaps more a game of what if… or if she saw someone different or unusual, she would try to come up with a story for why. She would often tell these stories to the younger kids at night around the campfire when travelling, or during the long boring cart rides, anything to keep them all entertained.

For all that she was a friendly sort, it was a shallow sort of friendliness. Shekkeh was an intensely private person, not willing to share anything that is not strictly necessary. She has a hard time truly connecting with others and making true friends. Most who are considered friends are more like acquaintances. To get too close to another is to be vulnerable, to give someone else the power to hurt one, and that was one of her greatest fears… being hurt, or ending up alone like her mom. So she might let acquaintances know her favorite color or food or animal, but not what makes her truly laugh, or cry, or what moves her to her very soul.

The youngest daughter, and with a family who was well enough off to provide her with anything she might need or desire, Shekkeh has always had access and the ability to get what she wanted. And though she knows the value of work for getting what she wants, she would much rather have it given to her, or to not have to work hard for it. Though she isn’t above doing whatever it takes to get what she wants, by hook or by crook. Though she draws the line at causing irreparable harm to others in the process.

Positive Trait List fanciful, diplomatic, responsible

Negative Trait List spoiled, insecure, private

History:
Shekkeh’s mother was a trader, once married happily but tragically widowed. Not during Threadfall as would be a logical assumption, but from an absolutely tragic accident caused by rainfall, leaving her alone with three small children. She picked up the pieces, though she was never the same, her vibrant carefree personality now tempered by grief and knowledge, and the need to take care of her children. She had looked for a new husband, wanting someone to not only help care for the kids, but someone to assist with the caravan. She had thought she’d found an acceptable partner- and had two children with him- before his true colors were discovered. He was already married with another family. And while it was a heavy blow, she picked up the pieces of her bruised heart and pride and threw herself into her job, and into the care of her children. It was enough, and she was satisfied, even if she longed for more.

Her life was full and she had finally made peace with the fact that her life wasn’t going to have everything she wanted, and she was content. Leading a well-respected caravan, surrounded by her five children, she was content. Then the caravan happened to stop by a small hold near the weyr with goods, and were invited to help bring them around for a Gather feast, and she met and spent that time in the company of a bright, carefree brown rider. Shekkeh was the result. While she was not planned, the woman adored this precious child, though she never informed the father of her existence.

Shekkeh grew up wanting for nothing. The youngest child, she was the pampered pet of her five older siblings, and when her mother wasn’t too terribly busy, she was her doll and the light of her life. But caravan life wasn’t always easy where they didn’t have a home base, choosing to rent space in the nearest hold when needed. From a young age, Shekkeh did her part. From carrying small goods and setting up in markets as soon as she was able, to helping with the heavier lifting and inventory as she was more able to handle it. She has a head for figures - though it was far from her favorite thing - and a bright smile and cheerful personality which was useful in bringing in customers. Though her true gift shone when it came to storytelling and entertaining the littles. And even the not-so-littles.

It happened when the caravan made it’s way back to the same hold supporting High Reaches weyr to deliver some trade goods. Shekkeh would be assisting with her normal duties of unloading goods, when a rather pushy blue Searched her, and was determined that she go to High reaches. She was meant to go and be a Candidate. Intrigued by the idea - it was never an option she had considered for herself - and honored, she said her good-byes to her family and watched as they left. Left her behind to a new life. A life she would throw herself into with vigor. To make the most of this opportunity, and prove that she had value and could be an asset to the weyr and not just a burden.

Other:

- Youngest of six raised by a single mother (four girls, two boys from three different fathers)
((depending on father she could have other half siblings, but none are known to her at this time))

- Daughter of a caravan leader and a brown rider

Hello, hello!

Everything looks pretty good! The only thing I have to nitpick is that traders do not often go to the Weyrs directly. The caravan could have possibly stopped at a nearby Hold or even a Gather taking place and Shekkeh could be Searched there. Other than that, it looks good!
