Name: Jhiroquel
Age: 22
Nameday: 3555.05.28
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Ask and find out.
Craft: N/A
Rank:Candidate
Location: High Reaches Weyr

Physical Description: Tall and narrow, Jhiroquel is easily 6'4". He is thin, but fit, a young man not at all unused to doing work or exercise, but nothing like bulky or visibly muscled once he is clothed. He is always tidily dressed, boots polished, shirt tucked and trousers unwrinkled. Deep black hair is short and cut neat. His eyes are a very dark brown, if not black themselves. While not a block of a chin, it is still squared rather than pointed. He is a handsome young man, if perhaps a little severe.

Personality: First things first: Jhiroquel does not like you. Rather, he does not approach the world in a "make friends first" fashion. That's not to say that he goes out of his way to be cruel or antagonistic. He just doesn't see the value in assuming that every person he runs into is worth the time and effort to make them friends. Acquaintances will do. Acquaintances can be very useful.

He's also not an isolationist. While he is uncomfortable with and often awkward about physical affection of any sort -- please don't hug him! -- he is just as uncomfortable being isolated and on his own away from everyone else. He *is* a team player, he *wants* to work together in concert with others and fully supports the idea of cooperation and teams. He's just not at all good with being crowded.

Nor is he a party boy. The notion of pranks or tricks or trying to get of whatever duties have been assigned are as foreign a thought to him as being able to breathe underwater. He has taken lessons with the Harpers very seriously all his life, and in his time as a Candidate, he has likewise done the same. He commits himself fully to those things he is asked to do and he sees them through without complaint.

But don't ask him to do extra to make up for your shortcomings, ignorance or lack of enthusiasm. This is a Weyr, there are certain tasks that must be accomplished to set and steady deadlines, and everyone is expected to do their parts, even if that part is as simple as dusting a shelf or folding a shirt. He respects those who follow the rules and remember their place. His is at the top of the chain of command, he believes, and he's really not interested in any other answer.

Yes, he is a strict traditionalist, and his opinions reflect that upbringing. If your joy comes from challenging the status quo, then you and he will butt heads often and perhaps violently. Don't even get him started on "those Westerners".

Hi is extremely strict with himself. He does know and recognize that there's a difference between willful ignorance and mistakes, and he will forgive a mistake from someone else, but if he messes up, he will beat himself up about it for days, at least. He has a whole system of self-punishment that he uses without comment but without mercy, There is no room for personal error in his world.

If you can withstand his criticism, and pry up a corner of his self-defenses, you will find yourself with a very loyal friend, but it will take work.

Positive Trait List Disciplined, team player, loyal
Negative Trait List Opinionated, self-critical, superior

History: Jhiroquel's father is a bronzerider. He was born and raised and trained at High Reaches Weyr and he embraced the world of traditional roles and rules early on in life and has never let go of them. He believed in the chain of command and of his right to his rank even before the return of Thread made tradition critical. Now, after its return he adheres to the old ways even more staunchly.

And he's raised his son in exactly the same way. Theirs is not a family dynamic based on tenderness and understanding. It has been a constant series of lessons and expectations. Failures and mistakes were met not with physical repercussions, but with something even more devastating: disappointment. Jh'rod has high expectations for his son; not meeting or exceeding them is unacceptable.

Since stepping forward to take his place among other candidates shortly after First Fall, Jhiroquel has yet to meet his dragon. He has not yet given up. With every passing Turn, his determination grows greater and his hope dims a little, but he will continue trying until he succeeds or his dragon simply fails to appear.

What happens if he never Impresses remains to be seen. It is a concern. It is a terror.

It drives him.
