Physical Description: Ayliar is a tall, broad-shouldered woman who has a very bad case of resting b***h face. There is nothing dainty or delicate about her, from her rather impressive biceps to her defined calves. Standing at 6'4, Ayliar towers over most young women and quite a few of the young men as well. She has long brown hair that reaches her mid back and is generally kept in a braid for simplicity's sake, a few strands occasionally escaping to frame her face. She has dark blue eyes and very sharp features, thin lips to only enhance the stark line of her mouth that always seems to be pressed tight together in irritation. Her skin is tanned and marred with scars from her previous occupation, the most obvious of which being the slash on her cheek that crosses her mouth and ends on her chin. Ayliar prefers brown tones for her attire and is used to the cooler climes Pern has to offer so there's generally a bit of fur trimming her clothes.
Personality: Ayliar's best trait is, perhaps, her steady and reliable head in hectic situations. It takes a lot to throw Ayliar off her game and, were cucumbers a thing on Pern, she definitely would be a cool as one. Very little seems to phase her and she can take on a difficult situation without breaking a sweat. This is in part thanks to her discipline that she's trained herself on for years. Ayliar takes pride in her self control and how she's made herself into a formidable mercenary through years of practice and hard work. While her siblings had slacked off, she'd put in the extra effort and found it returned to her tenfold in her skills. Ayliar uses that discipline and that unflappability to her advantage, finding herself often in situations others might not willingly put themselves into. Perhaps there's a dangerous cliff that needs to be scaled to save a young child that had fallen down into a ravine, or a lone wild feline that's been terrorizing the local farmers and needs to be hunted down. Ayliar would take either job without batting an eye, understanding the danger to her wellbeing but trusting in her own skills to know she is capable of doing the job. Some might call it heroic, others insanity, but so long as Ayliar is confident in herself she knows she can tackle any task. Despite being as large and foreboding as she can be, Ayliar is a gentle giant. She never kills without reason and goes out of her way to avoid harming those that might simply be caught in the crossfire. She has a soft spot for small, adorable things - human or animal - and although her appearance and attitude are rough around the edges, once someone gets to know her they'll find a soft, gentle woman underneath.
That being said, it takes a special type of person to get to know Ayliar. She is a large, imposing woman who is fairly stoic and doesn't generally start conversations. Her trademark scowl is almost always on her face, though it must be said she doesn't mean to be so unapproachable. To a timid person she's just a very scary lady to look at or approach and doesn't make it easy for people to attempt small talk. Indeed, if someone does succeed in getting past the accidental barriers Ayliar keeps up, they'll find she's not one for chewing the fat. She doesn't find humor in much and it's hard to banter or flirt (though who would want to do that? Someone with a death wish, most likely!) when her response is to stare in silence. Now that she's living among other Candidates it's apparent she's got a very loose grasp on how to present oneself to polite society. Her table manners are atrocious, her personal clothes are stained and well-worn, and she's frequently smudged with something. She has finally started to bathe regularly, at the very least, now that she's not traveling and living in the wilderness on the regular.

History: Ayliar was born into a mercenary family, both father and mother swords for hire. They raised Ayliar and her subsequent siblings to be warriors just like them, training them from a young age to wield a sword and how to survive from job to job. Ayliar was the only one of her siblings that took to the job, the others finding their own paths in life that eventually split the family up, one sibling staying in a small Hold they passed through, another going off to apprentice somewhere else, and the final sibling wandering off on their own without a particular place in mind. Ayliar stayed with her parents and continued to hone her skills, surpassing both of them by the time she was twenty.
When Thread returned it didn't bother them much. There wasn't much they could do about it, after all, other than be wary of it and try to find a Hold to shelter in as it passed. It was when they were sheltering at one of these Holds that a rider from Western appeared the day after Thread had passed and told Ayliar she should return with her and her dragon to stand as a Candidate. Ayliar hadn't been certain, but her parents had urged her to go and try. After some convincing Ayliar found herself at Western fresh after a Hatching with baby dragons toddling about everywhere and was instantly hooked. She'd never seen a baby dragon before and the only dragon she'd seen at all up close was the blue who had searched her. To have one of these creatures as her companion for life...well. They'd certainly make a fine fighting pair, wouldn't they?
