Name: Izaryel
Age: 16
Nameday: 3561.08.04
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Craft: Trader
Rank: N/A
Location: High Reaches Weyr
Physical Description: Izaryel is still a growing lad, who stands 5'9" with a bit more growth left in him. (He'll wind up an even 6'0" when all is said and done.) His hair is purple-black, and luxuriously long. It's one of his vanities, and is often done up in some sort of style when he has the time. In a rush, it's often tied back in a loose braid, or with some sort of cord. His eyes are large and expressive, which are more blue than grey. He's trimly built, though there's lean muscle beneath his figure. He's too hard a worker to be soft, no matter how he might sometimes desire an easier life.

He does have some scarring on his hands and arms from the fire. It wasn't as bad as his sister's but there is clear discoloration where the skin was burned at its worst.

Personality: Izaryel doesn't have a care in the world, except, perhaps for his luxurious locks of hair, and his beautiful face (at least as far as his family is concerned).. As the son of a trader in a relatively large family, Izaryel has the sort of personality that lights up a room. Not because he wants to be the center of attention (okay, maybe he does a little bit...a lot of bit), but because he's had to be! Competing with so many siblings, on top of living in a trading caravan, being outgoing and sociable simply became a way of life for Izaryel, who truly does enjoy people.

Thankfully, Izaryel is also a caring man, and genuinely so. Like his siblings, he has a heart of gold, and yearns to truly take care of those he befriends and even strangers alike. He'd give the shirt off his back if it was needed, and would rather go without if it meant someone else got a little more. He loves to do good, and wants to make a mark on the world that is remembered. He's the sort of young man who will absolutely go out of his way to get someone a favored gift, or remember stories they've told in the past, because it matters. Whatever he can do to lighten the load, Izaryel won't hesitate.

Add in his protective nature, and you can be sure Izaryel has your back. He will help you weather the storm, and fight the good fight. He will take the blows if it keeps you from harm, and will stand up for those who are weaker, smaller, or who haven't a voice themselves. He can't stand a bully, and won't hesitate to come to blows if he thinks it might do someone good. He's a friendly young man, but the claws can come out when he sees someone cornered.

Unfortunately, all of this care and protection can come at a cost. Izaryel's often too keen on caring for others, that he absolutely neglects his own needs. Sometimes it's something small, like giving up an extra helping of food so his siblings might have it; or deciding to give up his own freetime so he can help out a friend. But other times it's bigger, such as giving up a dream to do right by his family (goodbye, craft hall), or risking himself so another might succeed. He'll fall on his own sword if he thinks it might be the right thing to do and he comes very close to being a bit of a martyr.

This often means that Izaryel puts on a front of positivity and joy. He's a happy young man, eager to bring up ones spirits, or distract with some sort of story or game, or to be a shoulder to cry upon and listen and reassure. But it does mean that tends to keep his true thoughts and feelings close to the vest. He doesn't open up easily, and is quick to brush off his own cares. He might be afraid, sad, and grieving--but would rather not add to another's trouble, and sort it out himself. Not because he's not worthy of support, but because he would rather others, who need it more, receive it. Like his siblings, there is a very tender, very soft heart within him. He tries his best to hide hos sensitive he is, and burdens himself by not easily leaning into others.

He's all right, he's fine, he's okay, he will promise you up and down--but in reality, he probably needs a hug, or some comfort his own. He hasn't dealt with "things" very well, especially the grief, pain, and sadness from losing so much in such a short amount of time. But he will deal with it another day... (he won't).

Vanity is another negative quality that Izaryel possesses. He is a little bit in love with his own appearance, and is a glutton for fine clothes, scents, and quality things. He loves to look good, and hates to be out of fashion. On the one hand, he knows it's helpful pushing a sale if he can be a little flirty, or look good wearing a similar product; on the other hand, it does sometimes go to his head. He can't help but love to look good, and as he grows, he's earning attention in a way he hadn't as a younger man. And best be sure, he likes it--even if he's not all that sure what to do with it. He's not a genuine flirt, and he's not a heart-breaker, but if he's runs the risk of becoming one if he's not careful.

Positive Trait List Gregarious, Caring, Protective
Negative Trait List Vain, Self-Sacrificing, Burdened

History: Izaryel was born to a family of traders, and lived much of his life on the road. For the firs half of his life, he couldn't imagine a better life. He loved his siblings, and was a bit of a ham while on the road--laughing, playing, and getting into (and out of) trouble. He adored his older siblings, and was very protective of his twin. Izaryel always knew how to butter up his family when they were cross with him, and did his best to keep them all smiling. Life was a great adventure, and Izaryel eager to grow up just like his parents.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck during his 8th Turn. Bitra Hold was where the camp had stopped to deliver some wares, and nothing seemed amiss. A Hold was a Hold was a Hold, as far as Izaryel was concerned--and Bitra was always an interesting place. Unfortunately, a fight broke out between his father and a drunken Bitran man. What started out as a quarrel turned into a duel--and Izaryel's father was stabbed and killed.

It was the first time Izaryel had to really handle grief and loss--and unfortunately, it wouldn't be the last.

Izaryel missed his father greatly, and saw all the long faces, and heavy hearts of the Caravan. He clung all the tighter to his family, and wanted desperately to ease their pain. Focusing on their grief was easier for the young boy than was his own--and he did everything in his power to try to lighten their hearts. Just as the rest of the Caravan tried to rally their spirits, so did Izaryel. It was easier to deal with and care for his family than it was to look at his own grief. So he buried it, at least as best as he was able, and tried hard to soften the ache. Perhaps if he filled it with conversation, or entertainment, or some sort of new joke. Laughter was a sign of life, and a sign of normalacy. If he could just keep them laughing and smiling, maybe he wouldn't have to deal with the discomfort of grief, loneliness, and sadness.

Unfortunately, not quite a full turn later, Izaryel and his family would be faced with another tragedy. A fire broke lose, and the camp went up in smoke. He doesn't remember much-- he remembers coughing, he remembers the heat, he remember his sister catching fire and trying desperately to get it put out--but mostly he remembers pain. Physically, he did suffer a few burns on his hands and arms, but they were nothing compared to the pain of his heart.

His sister had the worst of it, with her face forever scarred--but for Turns, all Izaryel remembered was losing more family, and so many within the Caravan.

A dragonrider had come rescued his twin, his mother, and sister--but the rest were dead.

Life at Fort Hold seemed unbearble, and once again, there was nothin but tears and pain. Izaryel hated it, even as he hated himself for surviving. There were so few survivors, and yet, he was one of them. His family was essentially halved, and he hardly knew how to handle the grief, or process it. So, once again, the young man tried his best to help rally his siblings spirits. It didn't always work, but he made an effort, and with time, things slowly, piece by piece, return to normal.

The Turns passed, and life did what it did best--it moved on. Two of his siblings decided to go into Crafts, but Izaryel could not, would not, leave his mother. Someone had to pick up trading, and it was a very sociable business. Though his hearts were ever-so-tempted to see if he might study at the Harper Hall--he did always enjoy singing, and had learned to play a pipe while on he road--he didn't dare bring up such a desire. With half his family dead, and his two siblings off on heir own crafting advenures, Izaryel refused to abandon his mother. Besides, being a trader had its benefits and wasn't a bad job, and Izaryel had a knack for service.

Did he sometimes try to give things away by being a bleeding heart? Yes. But as he aged, and studied with his mother's direction and close eye, he better learned the art of the deal and how to barter, sell, and turn a profit. He might not have been a great trader, but at minimum his sociability left customers and potential buyers happy, or with something to talk about.

Though he gave up the desire to become a Harper, at Turn 16, he was given a new opportunity and news that made his heart sore. His older brother was not dead--but instead, had Impressed along with his older sibling, Tyfri! Not one but two dragonriders were in the family, and joy of joys, Iz'el was alive! Of course the family wished to plan a trip to High Reaches, to reunite and catch up. But plans changed when both Tyara and he were approached by a resident rider and Searched!

On the one hand, Izaryel didn't wish to abandon his mother yet again. He almost would have turned down the opportunity--and almost did. But on the other hand, could he really leave Tyara to her fate? While he had no doubt she could take care of herself, they had already been parted for two Turns while she was apprenticed at the Healer Hall. With his mother's encouragement, he agreed to stay--and see what fortune they might find.

Besides which, their older brother was there--and Izaryel wanted so badly to catch up. He didn't dare believe any of it was real, and though he feared for his mother returning to Fort alone, at the end of the day, to be so singled out was a dream. He didn't get to be a Harper -- maybe he could be a dragon rider?

Other: Izaryel's afraid of fire. He knows he'll be around it, especially at a Weyr, but he can't help but be afraid to be very close to it.

He actually has a superb singing voice, and likes to sing when he thinks he's alone. He also knows how to play a pipe.

Izaryel also has a green flit Gem. She was a gift to him from his mother.
