Tetsu's Amegakure Academy Deathmatch

User ImageUser Image

Today was the day that would create a drastic change in Tetsu's life, more so than he could have ever imagined. All the training he had done thus far had brought him here - the home stretch, just a bit a ways from the finish line. A crowd of Amegakure students began flooding into the courtyard, corralled by KASA agents wearing ominous gas mask. Some of the students appeared nervous, yet Tetsu walked among the crowd looking straight ahead. He was not worried about the past, or what the future might hold, only what laid in front of him here and now. The young gang leader knew that he needed to stay present and focused, to overcome whatever odds may stand in the way of his desire for a better life. Not just for him, but for the rest of his gang, and... even Amegakure as a village itself. What he could provide to them all, in terms of his strength and courage, was immeasurable.

The crowd of students diverged into three smaller crowds, each splitting off into sections of doors. These areas separated the students by one of the three sectors: Sky, Earth, and Cistern. Since enrolling, Tetsu became more aware of how one's class affected the rest of their experience and interactions in the Academy. The Sky Sector students were the most wealthiest of students, who were provided with the best training, materials, and were treated almost like royalty. Earth Sector students were middle grade in most things, and behaved almost exactly the same: they were all devoted to the Amekage, devoted to the cause of the Academy whether they lived or died. While the Cistern students were treated with the lowest of respect by everyone, generally regarded as useless trash. Tetsu fell within the Cistern category of the groups, and had his fair share of bad treatment and relentless bullying from the other students. He felt like the entire sector system was crap, and was willing to do whatever it took to get out of it. He didn't belong here. Neither did Naomi, Hiro, or the rest of their gang. He only hoped that by being the 'guinea pig' so to speak, towards their path to freedom, that his closest friends would soon join him in changing their lives for the better.

That's why he was here now. The final test, was a fight to the death with another competing student. The fear of death was there, Tetsu could feel it, but he had the confidence in his own fighting skill and the desire to break free of his chains to drown it out. He spent months training for this moment, with the crappiest training materials the Academy provided him with. The thought of ending the lives of one of the Sky Sector students who treated him poorly throughout all that time only made the boy more eager to get into the ring. If he could show this Amekage, and the village what he was capable of, he could change all of this. The Cistern students filed into an armory, picking through the assortment of chests and shelves that provided them with weaponry. The weapons were basic at best, with a majority of them being rusted down or broken if they were any better then the generic ninja tools that were offered. Typical. The Cistern students were mere fodder for the Sky Sector students. Tetsu heard this from many of them who teased and bullied him. Unfortunately for them, the young gang leader was a little smarter and more resourceful than your average 'sewer dweller'.

Tetsu made a careful choice of a few ninja tools and a long, semi-rusted chain to make do as his weapons for combat. His fighting instincts and capabilities with the manipulation of his bloodline which he had honed during his training will have to supplement the rest. Which Tetsu felt would be more than enough. Once his weapons were selected, he left the armory and headed to the door that presented his name. An announcement rang through the entire courtyard, signaling the start of the event. All of the students would be fighting to the death in honor of the Amekage. Tetsu wondered who this Amekage was, and why he was so adorned. What power he must hold to have nearly the entire village back him, and agree to put children in heated combat with one another... to the death. He was the third fight for the show, the crowd began roaring when his name was called, and his opponent named "X 925". The name obviously wasn't a normal sounding name, and left him a little confused as to who he'd be fighting. He didn't recall any sky sector students bearing that kind of name. Tetsu walked out into the arena anyway, glancing up and around at the roaring crowd. It was like they were in a coliseum or something, just pure entertainment for the crowd. No matter, Tetsu knew he needed to do whatever possible in order to win this fight.

Stepping out into the middle of the arena, he was met with his opponent "X 925" from the Earth Sector, their identity hidden by the dark clothing and hooded cloak they wore. No weapons visible on their person to speak of as they stood five feet away from Tetsu in a relaxed stance. This person is a complete mystery... Tetsu's eyes scanned the figure once more, preparing for an attack, but it was his opponent that made the first move. Advancing forward in a sudden dash, the small distance between them was closed in an instant. The moment Tetsu tightened his grip on the chain that he held, knives became visible from the sleeves of X 925, both aiming for his liver. The sound of metal clashing against metal rang aloud, Tetsu whipping the chain down and across his body with one hand, while using the other to grab ahold of the chain further down its length to pull it taught. The tips of both knives stabbed into one of the links of the chain, just barely being stopped by the width of the blade that was unable to travel completely through the links. It saved his liver from being stabbed, however his opponent was apparently not finished with their attack. With the blades halted, to kicks were planted into his sternum and chest, knocking him backwards. In that same movement, the knives were retrieved from their stuck positions, while Tetsu's body was practically used as a platform for his opponent to perform a graceful backflip to reset their stance.

Stumbling feet caught themselves as he was sent backwards, skidding across the dirt. Tetsu readjusted the chain in his hands so that he was holding one end with his right, the rest of it hung loosely towards the ground, which he then began twirling at his side. He didn't wait for his opponent to make the move this time, stepping forward and whipping the chain at their feet to disrupt their stance. When they stepped backwards to avoid the chain attack, Tetsu continued his forward movement in unison, twirling the chain as he spun around to slash at the torso with the end of the chain. The attack was blocked with a skillful swipe of a knife, knocking the chain from its path. Tetsu wrapped the loose end of the chain with his free hand around his knuckles, lunging forth as his initial attack was blocked with a forward punch. What little distance was closed between them, was met with a clash of Tetsu's chained augmented knuckles with a knife. The other had sliced into his forearm, but not without a price. During the second attack, he wrapped the chain around his opponent's other knife wielding hand to gain control of it. As close as their were now, he found it strange that his opponent hadn't come up with some reaction. He peered into the cloak which hid X 925's facial features, noticing bright red hair and bright blue eyes. They held a softness to them, even now, that reminded him of ocean tides. A pair of eyes, that were all too familiar to him. "... Naomi?" The sounds of straining metal softened as Tetsu inquired about his opponent's name, but it wasn't X 925 who had relented.

That small release on Tetsu's part was enough for the end of the knife which blocked his chained knuckles to whip forward and smash him in the side of the face. For a brief moment, there was stars, then darkness. Tetsu fell to the ground, clumsily trying to regain his footing. When his vision fully came back, his opponent was on top of him with both knives drawn prepared for the final strike. Tetsu was sure that he was dead here, and despite the fact that he couldn't accept coming this close to freedom only to die, he bravely accepted his death. Yet, there was hesitation in his opponent. But why? They had the chance to kill him, stopping nearly halfway as the blades were brought down to their intended target. Not here. Tetsu did not want to die here, reminding himself of the reason he needed to complete this test. A sharp pain suddenly flooded the front of his brain, along with a surge of adrenaline that aided him in reversing the situation his was in, and instead pinning his opponent to the ground. With the chain stretched tight, it was brought to the neck of his opponent as their back was weighed down into the ground by his own weight. The hood which hid his opponent's face fell back, revealing the feminine face which possessed those familiar ocean blue eyes. It was Naomi. One of his closest friend since they met back in the lab which held them captive. The other 'second in command', next to Hiro, who were all in charge of the gang they ran in the sewers of the Cistern sector. She looked up at him, her face full of regret and sorrow. "Tetsu... I'm sorry." Tetsu loosened the chain he pinned to her neck, still at a loss for words, "Naomi!? I... What are you doing here?" The fight had stopped, and this was not pleasing to the crowd at all, who showed their disappointments with loud booing.

"They found me, Tetsu." She choked up the words, holding back tears that now flooded her eyes. Tetsu didn't need to know who 'they' were, for he already knew. It was their captors. The scientists who were using them for experiments, and one of the many few who managed to survive the first round of them. "What?" Tetsu's eyes looked up and through the booing crowd frantically. If they had her, that means that they had to be here somewhere as well. "They captured me. Sent me into this program to get to you. To kill you. They don't need to capture us alive anymore, Tetsu. They've found a way to make use of us, even after we're long dead! I've seen it, Tetsu. The horrible things they have to those who didn't survive. Rin, Daichi... even my sister, Akane. I'm sorry, Tetsu. I'm so sorry!" While she spoke, and eventually began uncontrollably sobbing, Tetsu's gaze was focused on the crowd. He soon caught site of two men in white coats and glasses, watching them intently. One of them bore the face he'd never forget, wearing that same wicked grin they had when they put him through weeks of torture, chained to a examination table. He could remember all of the pain, fear, and helplessness he felt through all of it. "You son of a b***h! Let us go!" In a rage, he bolted off of Noami towards the end of the area. KASA agents were going to interfere, but one of the scientists merely raised their hand in refusal. "Activate the seal. He knows too much. Bring both of their dead bodies to me when this match is over." One of the scientist spoke, walking out of sight into the crowd, followed by the second one, completely out of Tetsu's view. He only started running faster as the two turned to leave, but he'd soon hear another set of footsteps rapidly approaching him from behind. He turned to see Naomi, an eerie mark glowing on her shoulder, as he eyes stared into him, soulless, and lacking that natural softness they had always had. Her knives were pointed straight at him as she leapt into the air stabbing downward to bore the sharp blades deep into his chest.

Tetsu's right arm came to guard his chest, a shield growing from his forearm made out of black, gnarled wood. Its dimensions were big enough to fend off both strikes, the knives barely digging into the surprisingly sturdy wood before being fully repelled. Naomi! Stop this. We're getting the ******** out of here." She didn't listen, her knives swinging back at him the moment they were deflected. Her movements were faster and more precise than before. It has to be something from that glowing rune... He then remembered his own, incomplete, rune that was present on his chest. Were these being used as some sort of controlling device? He didn't have much time to think on it, having to repel Naomi's relentless onslaught of stabs and slashes. The two danced around inside the perimeter of the arena, several knife slashes being blocked or redirected with a combination of defense from his shield, chain weapon, and his own movements. Even though she was moving more gracefully, he found himself being able to keep up with her, albeit barely. "Naomi..." He called out to her amidst their grunts of effort and the clashing of metal. She remained silent, as if her only goal now was to end Tetsu's life. "Naomi!" He called out to her again, blocking her thrust full on with his shield to stop her in place. Instead she replied with a swift low kick, sending Tetsu to his back, whipping back around to bring the blade down into his chest. Tetsu rose his shield to defend himself, but the angle of her stab caused it to scrape down the shield and pierce into his shoulder instead. A sharp pain ignited in his shoulder, causing him to shout in anguish. He looked up to see Naomi's soulless eyes once more. She was no longer there. Whatever had taken her place wanted him dead.

He couldn't die here, now. Naomi wouldn't have wanted that, and if the scientist had gotten to her, that could mean Hiro was also in danger. Tetsu could feel his heart restricting himself, coming to the conclusion of what he would have to do. Naomi's other knife rose to seal his fate, and Tetsu just laid there, looking up at her. The shield in his forearm receded back into his normal flesh, leaving him wide open for the strike. They won't get away with this. I promise you. The knife came down, aiming straight for his unguarded heart, only to stop suddenly midway before being released. The sound of flesh being pierced covered Noami's gurgled groans. Tetsu's hand had taken the form of black, gnarled branches, tearing through her torso and out of her back. Her blood spilled in volumes over him, her soulless eyes returning to that soft feature he was so fond of, although hazy. She looked down at him, struggling for breath, but managed to get out some last words. "Please. Don't let them... take me... Thank you..." Her body fell limp on the gnarled branches that were made from Tetsu's hand. He slowly reverted them, allow her dead body to lay on top of his. He stared up into the sky, into the rain as the crowd cheered for his victory. His other arm was wrapped around her, as if trying to fulfill her request, but he could not move from his current position. His body wouldn't allow him to. He just murdered one of his best friends.

Academy Training and Mission Requirements for Zenmaru

User ImageUser Image

Zenmaru arrived at the academy, looking around at all of the humans training. He wanted to become strong, having mimicked the desire most humans have for training to begin with. He picked up a few scrolls and read what he could understand. This type of learning was different from what Zenmaru was used to: being taught everything from his deceased master. Zenmaru was studying the concept of the Kai technique, the primary defense for breaking out of genjutsu, by manipulating one's flow of chakra.

      ▰ Learned: Kai
▰ Mission Completed: Kappa's First Steps

The Henge technique was next on the list to learn, a simple transformation ability with the use of chakra. Zenmaru practiced managing the flow of his chakra, until he could successfully increase its volume enough to cover his entire body. He wasn't exactly sure how the 'transformation' part of the technique worked, so he focused on his thoughts tuning them towards his desired transformation. In a sudden plume of smoke, the Kappa was transformed into his master Zenmaru. He took no time to examine the transformation or anything before another cloud of smoke appeared, reverting himself back to his normal self.

      ▰ Learned: Henge no Jutsu
▰ Mission Completed: Kappa's First Steps

Rather than turning oneself into something else, this technique simply replicated the individual who casted the technique multiple times. The bunshin technique being the most basic skill for creating clones. Zenmaru performed the required hand seal for the technique, remembering to control the flow of his chakra, but this time attempting to separate it from him in equal portions. The clones held no real substance to them and were almost, if not exactly that, imaginary. However, he successfully created exact replicas of himself, which was the entire point of the technique.

      ▰ Learned: Bunshin no Jutsu
▰ Mission Completed: Kappa's First Steps

While he was practicing his clone technique, there were some other smaller kids a bit several feet from him tossing books at each other. Zenmaru paid no mind to them, for he thought this what something that normal humans did while learning. Unfortunately he'd learn that horseplay and learning do not mix. One of the books flew past the opposing kid as he ducked to dodge it, ramming Zenmaru in the back of the head. Before the kids could apologize, he had replaced himself with a nearby chair, looking at the kids confused. They quickly stopped their roughhousing in fear that the Kappa might eat them.

      ▰ Learned: Substitution Technique
▰ Mission Completed: Kappa's First Steps

Zenmaru allowed himself to cool off by heading outside of the academy to get some fresh air, as well as peace and quite from the rowdy children inside. It would also give him some time to practice chakra flow to his feet, so that he could learn how to walk on water properly. The first couple attempts ended up with wet feet, for Zenmaru was still having trouble focusing while dealing with his confusion from the earlier incident still. Once he was fully focused, he chanelled chakra into the bottoms of his feet and walked across the small pond, feeling no different than if he was walking on the ground.

▰ Learned: Art of Walking on Water
▰ Mission Completed: Kappa's First Steps

Once he walked across the entire length of the pond and his feet returned to solid ground, the chakra forming around his feet dissipated. The challenge for that technique was walking on a liquid surface that had a tendency to ripple and wave. He wondered how challenging walking vertically could be, where he'd need to apply enough chakra to adhere himself to the surface while dealing with the forces of gravity and his own weight. Zenmaru applied chakra to his feet once more, starting by raising one leg and planting his foot on the wall ahead of him. Once he felt like the step was secure, he followed with the second, alternating feet until he was walking up the length of the wall.

▰ Learned: Art of Walking on Walls
▰ Mission Completed: Kappa's First Steps

A few steps later, he was near the top of the wall, feeling the rush of the wind along his body due to the height in which he had ascended. He carefully walked back down the length of the wall until he was on the ground, and put his focus towards the next technique he was going to learn. Shunshin, a technique revolved around quick sudden movement to a location known to the caster. He just made it to the top of the wall, so he figured that would be a great end point for practicing the shunshin technique. The first few times he ended up running right into the wall, or only making it nearly halfway up before painfully skidding down. The speed at which he was moving was new for him, taking Zenmaru some time to adjust before he was able to make it to the top of the wall in a single sudden movement.

      ▰ Learned: Body Flicker Technique
▰ Mission Completed: Kappa's First Steps

Zenmaru decided to think back on the teachings that his master taught him when he was alive. One of the first techniques he ever learned was the Total Concentration: Water Breathing Technique. It required him to focus on his breath and control it, to fortify his mental capacity to delay the effects of physical pain. Zenmaru, as a Kappa was already pretty durable, but this little lesson had taught him so much more than that. He spent a few minutes controlling his breath as he sat quietly with his eyes closed, almost in meditation. A few minutes later, his eyes calmly opened up, and he released a final exhale.

▰ Learned: Total Concentration: Water Breathing
▰ Mission Completed: Kappa's First Steps

The Kappa was born in the water, it was its natural habitat. Zenmaru loved the water and was equally excited about learning some water-based techniques! He wondered about all of the fun things one can do besides swimming in water... well, you can spit it like projectiles! Zenmaru practiced spitting multiple projectiles of water from his mouth at a target. He wasn't a natural at first, but with a few minutes of practice, his accuracy had already improved by a lot, and he was capable of spitting multiple projectiles per round.

      ▰ Learned: Fish Spit
▰ Mission Completed: Kappa's First Steps

If it was one another thing that Zenmaru enjoyed other than water, it was swords. As a Yokai, Zenmaru was aware of the Samurai's favored weapon used to hunt those of his kind: the katana blade. After being tamed by his master, while he was not taught how to wield one, he was able to learn just by watching the samurai and his master train. With his water element, he could create his own sword that he too could practice using, and hopefully one day become a Yokai Samurai that his master would have been proud of. From his palm, a sphere of water formed, then it turned into a small Wakizashi blade that was perfect for Zenmaru's size. He gave it a couple of practice swings.

      ▰ Learned: Water Sword
▰ Mission Completed: Kappa's First Steps

Kaminari's Monster Slayer Training

User Image
User ImageUser Image

Once Kaminari was six years old, her parents placed her in the care of her master, Master Raiden Raiu. Like her brother before her, it was tradition for these members of the Raiu clan to receive training in order to become accomplished Yokai hunters. Daily physical conditioning and reading books on the various types of Yokai filled Kaminari's introduction to her new life. Inazuma, who was now thirteen at the time, was already wielding his own sword and hunting down some of the lesser Yokai with Master Raiden's help. [ 1/5 ]

The young aspiring monster hunter had quite the days work ahead of her. Waking up early every day, her first task was a run. This run took the first two to three hours of the day typically, where she'd follow a course set out by her master. In the snowy regions of the Land of Iron where most of this training took place, it wasn't exactly the easiest run to accomplish. Running through open fields, into dense forests, where she'd have to weave through trees and vault over large stones. Into the mountains and caverns, where footing was not always the most stable. She had to learn to be light on her feet, and have ample stamina to combat the supernatural beasts that threatened their land. [ 2/5 ]

Stamina was important, but so was physical strength and speed. With enough training, one could achieve physical capabilities rivaling the Yokai themselves. This type of training was the most brutal, and the training methods here did not discriminate based on age or gender. Kaminari was training the exact way her brother Inazuma had, and she hoped that one day she'd be able to hunt alongside him. Intense physical conditioning in the form of circuits revolving pushups, sword swings, squats, holding basic stances, and practicing kata for hours at a time. Initially the young Raiu found these conditioning sessions quite difficult, but with time and persistence, she was able to complete them without feeling totally gassed out. [ 3/5 ]

It wasn't simply conditioning that made these hunters formidable against the Yokai, but the Thunder Breathing technique that the Raiu clan was known for. It made them very strong Samurai in general, but for these hunters, mastering this skill was vital to their success against the Yokai threat. All of the conditioning Kaminari had done for the first few years was preparing her for this. With Master Raiden's guidance, she was able to pick up the basics of Thunder Breathing, mastering the breathing technique itself just as quickly as her brother had done when he was younger. Using their breath to embody the characteristics of lightning and thunder, and becoming proficient with the Iai technique, is what made the Raiu clan so dangerous. Much like lightning themselves, they could dispatch any foe, human or Yokai, swiftly and cleanly. [ 4/5 ]

With the basics of the Thunder Breathing style under Kaminari's belt, as well as a few years of extreme physical conditioning, she was one step closer to being able to go on actual hunts. For months prior to that point, she was up to the top of her head in various scrolls, books, and notes containing various information on the different types of Yokai, tracking, trapping, combat, and the Slayer's Guide to Anatomy which provided insight on vitals and weakness of various monsters. Master Raiden tested her on various subjects often, and once she was able to ace every test completely, she was considered an initiate monster slayer, ready to take on actual hunts! As a gift, she was allowed to keep the slayer's guide, and was given her very own Katana blade forged by her master. [ 5/5 ]

tab ▰ 5 Monster Hunter Missions Completed: 'Initiate Monster Slayer' title achieved.

The first hunting mission for Kaminari was to track and dispatch a group of troublesome Kappa in a forest near one of the villages outside of Zaishin's borders. This forest had a river that snaked through it, leading to a lake which these Yokai likely resided. Several small children and women had gone missing from the village, and when Kaminari and Master Raiden arrived to investigate, a fisherman came running out of the forest exclaiming that he had been attacked by a Yokai. The man's left side of his body was bleeding terribly. The village nurses were summoned to tend to his wounds, while the Master hunter and his initiate would begin their investigation. The two headed into the entrance of the forest, first looking to locate the river, so that they could follow it down to the lake. [ 6/10 ]

It made perfect sense to do this, as Kaminari recalled reading several passage about the Kappa Yokai. These demons dwelled in swampy areas and bodies of water for their homes. This would make it more likely that they would encounter them, however, she also wondered about the increase of attacks against humans. What would cause them to do such a thing? Master Raiden reminded her that while these demons typically don't hunt humans, they will greatly consider this if food is scarce on their end. With this group of Yokai being incredibly close to a village, there is now a source of food they can depend on in order to survive. Kaminari was first to find the lake, approaching it and scanning the surroundings for any clues. Here, they found a fishing rod and tools, likely belonging to the fisherman. This was likely the sight of the attack. [ 7/10 ]

Master Raiden and Kaminari scanned this section of the river for any possible Kappa lingering by. After a brief search, they could confirm that the waters were clear for the time being. The initiate monster slayer caught some webbed prints in the mud just outside of the river and alerted her master in order to investigate. They were quickly able to confirm that these were Kappa tracks - two sets of them, in fact. They were heading back into the river, which only meant that after attacking the fisherman, they went into the river and swam with the current heading deeper into the forest. The lake was somewhere at the end of this river. All they needed to do was follow it until they could reach it. Kaminari kept her eye on the river as they walked along side it, her eyes scanning up and down the flow of the water, searching for any possible Kappa lurking about. [ 8/10 ]

The forest was quiet, save for the sounds of the wind rustling through the trees and river flowing beside them. Kaminari's mind was retracing over all of the notes she gathered about the Kappa during her studies. She practically had most of it memorized, spending hours studying each day, and having Master Raiden test her on various Yokai; their strengths and weakness. Kappa were very sturdy demons due to their extremely tough exterior and hard shell on their backs. Due to their preferred habitat being water, they excelled in underwater combat, and fighting in bodies of water in general. It would be wise to lure them out of the water before engaging them in combat to greatly hamper their fighting capabilities. As far as weaknesses go, Kaminari considered attacking with the Thunder Breathing technique, in order to debilitate them with swift, lightning sword attacks. With their preference for water, this would certainly make the element more effective. [ 9/10 ]

As the monster slayer initiate went over her plan of attack, a loud splash of water disrupted her thoughts. Another splash of water accompanied it, and Master Raiden and Kaminari responded quickly by reaching for their blades. Two medium-sized Kappa leapt out from the river, beginning their assault on the hunters. Kaminari was prepared, using her agility to dash out of the way of the Kappa's initial attack, causing him to land on the ground instead of her. It turned to the young hunter, roaring angrily, before standing up on its back legs to launch another attack. First, it propelled a blast of water from its mouth aimed straight for Kaminari's body, following up with a tackle. Kaminari dodged the blast of water with a twist of her body, watching the blast of water penetrate through the thick trunk of a tree behind her. With the momentum of her twist, she drew her Katana, meeting the blade with the Kappa's sturdy body as they collided. [ 10/10 ]

tab ▰ 5 Monster Hunter Missions Completed: 'Adept Monster Slayer' title achieved.

The adept monster slayer was not completely prepared for the collision, nearly toppling backwards from the sheer force and size of the Kappa's body meeting her blade. Thankfully, her strong stance kept her on her feet, dirt piling up at her ankles while she slid backwards two feet due to the demon's forward momentum. Her Katana blade failed to slice through the tough exterior of the Kappa's underbelly, yet the blade did partially sink itself into the rough skin. The Kappa snapped its sharpened beak at Kaminari's face, just barely out of reach while she held the demon back with her blade, using her free hand as support by pressing against the tip of her sword. She could hear the roars from the other Kappa in the distance, followed by the sounds of metal swinging through the air. [ 11/15 ]

There was no time to worry about Master Raiden, she was certain in the back of her mind that he could handle these lesser Yokai with relative ease. Kaminari on the other hand, having very little combat experience with demons so far, needed to focus on making sure she survived this encounter. If not to live long enough to tell Inazuma about it when he returned from his mission. Giving a quick, explosive push forward, she managed to knock the Kappa back on in back legs, giving her enough room to hop back and regain her bearings. She took a proper stance, holding the katana blade before her with its tip facing the Kappa that now stood before her. A silent challenge that the demon eagerly accepted, letting out a hungry, bloodcurdling roar as it charged the young Samurai head on. [ 12/15 ]

Kaminari was ready this time, waiting for the precise moment to make her move. Once the Kappa was in range for the attack it wanted to make, that's when the young monster slayer swung her blade. In a low arc, it traveled, her body following through with twisting hips and a low stance, allowing her to avoid the Kappa's attack and slip beneath them. The blade made contact with the Kappa's flesh, slashing along the outside of its right leg and inflicting a deep cut through its calf. Blade and body both rotated just outside of the Kappa's range, quickly returning to a neutral stance while the demon fell into the dirt behind her. The hit was successful, if the shriek of pain it let out shortly after wasn't the biggest indicator. [ 13/15 ]

All of her training had led her to this moment. The years of intense physical conditioning, sword play, and studying of the Yokai anatomy. She felt just a few steps closer to becoming like her brother Inazuma, a strong and respected samurai of the Raiu clan. However, her battle was not over yet, there was no time for celebration. Its cry of pain was followed by growls of extreme anger. Her cut may have only agitated the hungry demon further, as it was likely suspecting an easy meal given that it chose to attack a relatively small girl. Unfortunately for it, Kaminari was not as defenseless as she looked. The Kappa turned to face her once more, rage evident on its face as it charged her once again. Master Raiden, who had already slain the Kappa that opposed him, silently watched his student engage the demon on her own. [ 14/15 ]

In response to the Kappa's sudden rage, Kaminari sheathed her sword, allowing her hand to rest on its hilt while she took a readied stance. Her eyes were leveled on the demon ahead, but her focus was all internal - on her breath. A deep inhale was drawn, her hand tightening around the hilt. The movement in itself was hurried in the slightest, and despite the tightness of the grip her posture overall was relaxed, yet uniform. The exhale came slow, steady, and powerful. The strength behind her focused breath taking form in the sparks of lightning now dancing around the hilt of her blade. The Kappa only made it halfway to her before she made her move. The arcs of lightning were the last to fade from existence, as Kaminari's body seemingly vanished in thin air just as she began to draw the blade from its sheathe. A sudden flash of lightning followed by a loud booming of thunder followed behind as she suddenly reappeared several feet behind the demon, sheathing her blade once more. [ 15/15 ]

Kaminari performed one of the Raiu clan's most basic techniques in their breathing style known as First Form: Thunder Clap Flash. In its execution, one could not doubt the countless hours poured into achieving such level of mastery, even for someone as young as Kaminari herself. The Kappa's body was frozen in a state of shock, before falling to the ground completely divided by its midsection. Her cut had gone straight through the Kappa's body, slicing through its toughened flesh and nigh-impenetrable shell, leaving a bloody corpse on the soil behind her. She turned to Master Raiden, who stood quite a bit of ways away spectating her. He indulged her with a nod of acknowledgement, but nothing more. At the time, this was enough to make the young monster slayer feel like she was on the right track to becoming as strong as her older brother Inazuma. [ 16/20 ]

Master Raiden continued on by showing Kaminari how to properly dispose of demon corpses with the two current Kappa lying dead beside the river. It was a custom of sorts, as leaving behind the dead bodies of demons were considered bad luck, according to superstition. On the more practical side of things, they had the tendency to lure stronger demons into the area or incite any lesser demons into aggression. Now, their goal was to eliminate the remaining Kappa down at the river. Because they have already attacked several humans from the village just outside of this forest, there was nothing stopping them from doing it again. Whatever food source that was available to them here now pales in comparison to the taste of human flesh. Kaminari's master reminded her that there was not to be any mercy shown here. Every Kappa that inhabited this river needed to be slain. [ 17/20 ]

The two monster slayers continued down the river path, encountering a few more Kappa that happened to be swimming upstream. Kaminari showed considerable skill in taking them out, using all of the training she gathered over the years to masterfully use her swordplay to her advantage. The remaining Kappa in the river were also defeated with relative ease, the young monster slayer resorting to utilizing the Lightning Breathing techniques to dispatch her foes. The elemental advantage from the lightning-based attacks proved to be very helpful in defeating the Kappas, even those who resorted to staying inside the large body of water to combat Kaminari and her master. With the mission completed, they returned to the village to ensure all of the villagers that the forest was safe to travel through and use once again. [ 18/20 ]

For the following months after Kaminari's first yokai hunting experience, Master Raiden would continue to put her skills to the test through the tracking and hunting of increasingly more dangerous yokai. In the mountains within Zaishin's borders, she encountered Tengu for the first time. These demons were quite difficult, compared to the Kappa she faced before. With their advantage of flight and similar mastery of the sword, nearly matching the young yokai hunter's if not slightly above, Kaminari was forced to be very strategic with her offensive options in order to gain the upper hand. If she was unable to lure them to the ground to fight, she often resorted to using the bow or spear for extended reach to try and take out their capabilities for flight. Once they were on the ground, it became solely a match of skill: whose blade would best whose? Most of the time, Kaminari was able to come out on top with the help of her Lightning Breathing style, and a few samurai tricks Master Raiden had taught her. [ 19/20 ]

A few more months would pass, and Kaminari's experience with combating yokai and monsters would only continue to increase. She was taking on a majority of the smaller hunts on her own now, as Inazuma's training resumed with Master Raiden, preparing him for some of the legendary yokai hunts, as well as taking an apprentice of his own. Kaminari's skills were recognized when she rescued a lost traveler from a cave, having fought a Vasuki who was holding them captive. While under normal circumstances, a peaceful treaty was formed with the Naga people of this specific mountain region, after a rebellion from the Naga, and they began snatching up humans who wandered too close to their territory, a decision was made by the hunting team that this situation be dealt with accordingly. After a long, hard fought battle with the Vasuki alone, Kaminari stood victorious. The success of this hunt enabled her to aid her brother in one of the most difficult hunts yet: A powerful Oni yokai. [ 20/20 ]

Kaminari's Ninshu (Traditional, Non-Elemental) Devotion

User Image
User ImageUser Image

From the time Kaminari was brought to her master to undergo demon hunter training, it became a major part of her life. For the longest time, it was all she knew how to do. She spent every waking moment since her first day in her master's quarters, training and conditioning herself to combat the powerful demons and monsters that threatened their land. This strengthened her body and her mind in some aspects. But what about her spirit? [ 1/5 ]

Sometimes throughout her training, Kaminari could feel herself developing a hatred inside of her for the Yokai. The monstrous demons who sought the destruction of their human counterparts, whether it be out of amusement or harbored hatred themselves. As hunters, their primary goal in their profession was to use their skills to protect the people of Zaishin. Only the demons who posed a serious threat to human's life were executed generally, with very few outliers. Killing sprees on demons or monsters wasn't part of the Raiu Clan Hunting Corps' motives. [ 2/5 ]

To keep these hunters on the right track, and strengthen their spiritual resolve, Ninshu was introduced into many of their lives, bringing a philosophical approach to their otherwise demanding profession. At least two days within a general week filled with training, conditioning, studying, and hunting, the hunters were tasked to spend a few hours at the temple meditating. It was also customary to spend time with towns that were victims of Yokai attacks, helping the residents and creating a closer bond with them. This could be as simple as checking on the victims and providing emotional support for any trauma or loss they've experienced, to rebuilding destroyed homes and farmland. [ 3/5 ]

All of this was done without any monetary reward, simply for the sake of their devotion to Ninshu and its philosophy. One of the tenets being to aid those who request it, so long as the request isn't going to manipulate or cause harm to anyone else. To use their abilities as Samurai and demon hunters, via their chakra, to protect and aid others was also a staple tenet in the religion. By following these tenets, the hunters hoped to bring a sense of connection to the people of Zaishin in a spiritual way that they vowed their lives to protect. [ 4/5 ]

By working with each other as hunters, they became a much stronger force against the demon threats, sharing their spiritual energies with one another to provide strength and engage in silent communication through deep understanding of one's emotions. Kaminari quickly integrated Ninshu into her life, alongside her brother, adhering to the traditional practices that Samurai and hunters alike have done for generations. With it, she was able to appreciate her profession more, and have confidence in what it provided the people of the village, as far as safety and the reliability of that protection. Soon enough, she became a devoted follower of the philosophy, integrating it into other aspects of her life as she became a full-fledged Samurai. [ 5/5 ]

Kaminari's Weaponsmith/Armorsmith Profession and Worker Career - Tinkering Teammates Reduction Active

Kaminari's career as a monster hunter led her down an interesting path as she became a full-fledge Samurai of Zaishin City. Having devoted herself to the path of the sword, and pursuing mastery over the weapon arts, the young Raiu clanswoman would take a deeper dive into connecting with these weapons. By learning to craft the very weapons she sought to excel in, greater wisdom would be brought to her, that she could pass on to future weapon specialists. It would also provide for Zaishin and its people, with the necessary tools - commoner and samurai alike - that were required for their way of life. [ 1/3 ]

The forge became her place of conditioning and study for an extended period of time. Much like when she was brought to Master Raiden, having left her home to live in a small shack in the wilderness to learn how to hunt demons. She received instruction from the local forge master, known all around the city for their innovative creations and perfect-grade weaponry. Kaminari watched closely, keeping mental notes on the process of getting the forge ready. She spectated the forge master closely as the coals grew bright red with heat, and several ores placed out to prepare for smelting. [ 2/3 ]

A new condition she had to grow accustomed to, was the intense heat within the forging area. The bitter cold that embraced the Land of Iron was something that she had grown used to long ago, conditioning herself to that element specifically during her demon hunting training. This could be handled in the same fashion; the young samurai was sure of it. The ores were placed into the coals until they were hot enough to be malleable with a bit of force. Through the sweat that graced her brow, dripping over her eyes, she watched the forge master get to work by steadily beating the hammer into the hot ores. [ 3/3 ]

It took about a week before Kaminari was beginning to create basic projects on her own. The city of Zaishin was in massive need of supplies so that those who inhabited it could support themselves. Tools and weapons specifically, as farmland was being rebuilt, and new recruits were being trained into the samurai ranks. The Raiu clanswoman gathered some coal to place into the forge, letting the coals sit until they were burning bright red. From here, she would begin the creating of a scythe that could be used by the farmers. A tool and a weapon both, but useful for handling the crops they would grow. [ 1/3 ] [ 4/8 ]

Projectiles were the next project, namely arrows. There were many Samurai who used ranged weapons alongside their primary weapon, usually being the Katana. The bow helped with combating enemies that may likely be airborne or too far away to attack with a regular blade. With the proper accuracy and skill, the bow could be a deadly weapon. Kaminari first made several shafts by cutting pieces of wood. Fletcher feathers were glued to one end where a nock was also created. Making the pointed tips of the arrows were a simple process, heating and shaping metal accordingly. [ 2/3 ] [ 5/8 ]

With the new recruits currently in training, eventually they'd make their way into becoming capable samurai - hopefully. As a gift for their accomplishment, a sword is given to them as per tradition, their own blade that they can then hone their skills with. A symbol of a Samurai's strength, the sword is used in the defense of the city as a loyal samurai of Zaishin. Creating this sword was as simple as remembering the process the forge master showed her. Creating the blade itself took the longest and was the most difficult task, but she felt even more connected to the weapon by the time she finished. A perfect, new blade was created for the lucky recruit that would receive it for their hard work. [ 3/3 ] [ 6/8 ]

Each new project gave Kaminari the skills she needed to get better and better at forging weapons. By this point, basic weapons were done with relative ease, and she was able to get them out quickly enough to satisfy any amount of orders that came through the door. Still, the orders kept on coming and she was determined to fill them all. The next task on hand was a shield. The request was slightly more complex in nature, but Kaminari was surprised at how well she was able to handle the task. Her handiwork was improving, and even as she gazed upon the shield, she could tell. The young Raiu clanswoman was proud of her work, and only hoped that the citizens of Zaishin would be proud of her too. [ 1/1 ] [ 7/8 ]

Her work wasn't done just yet. Some rumors went spreading about a certain Raiu clan member's forging skill, increasing curiosity amongst her family. An anonymous request was brought to her, to forge a special sword - an heirloom of sorts. It was obvious that this request was brought to her by a Raiu clan member, given the specifics of the request in regards to the sword, including the lightning motif along its sheathe. Kaminari got to work right away, making sure to take any extra time she needed to create the blade to perfection. After the long and arduous process of swordsmithing was completed, the special blade was sent off to the anonymous customer. She was almost positive she'd be seeing that blade sometime in the near future, and was rather excited for it. [ 1/1 ] [ 8/8 ]

(-1 additional paragraph reduction active due to Grandmaster title.)
Having noticed a few armor requests had popped themselves into the que, Kaminari figured it was time to refresh her brain with something new. Armor was pretty important in Zaishin; many samurai wore armor as their general combat attire, and various pieces could help with surviving in the harsh elements of the climate here for commoners. The latter is what appeared on the first request: a simple coat designed for a woman, likely to keep her warm while out during the day. Stitching fabric wasn't the young Samurai's most refine skill, but with practice, she eventually got it down enough to create the coat. [ 1/2 ] [ 9/13 ]

After the coat was finished, she took a peek at the request list. To her surprise, some simple gauntlets were wanted. Kaminari was very familiar with gauntlets, having a pair herself that she often wore with her armor pieces. They did very well when it came to providing protection for the forearms and hands - even providing as a decent weapon in close combat. Lighting up the forge once again, as the coal grew hot, metal was shaped and hammered. Several pieces were put together, ultimately creating the gauntlet that was requested. After a quick shining of the metal, the armor piece looked perfect to the young forge master, and it was sent off, hopefully satisfying the customer's needs. [ 2/2 ] [ 10/13 ]

Kaminari was very interest in the next project she received. Someone wanted a more traditional armor piece known as the Tousei Gusoku. The young Raiu clanswoman was very familiar with this piece of armor, typically wearing it herself when combat situations arose. The request specifically asked for two sets of this armor, both having different designs and possessing unique characteristics that would set them apart from each other. She wondered what kind of warrior this individual was, and was more than understanding about using different armors depending on the situation. Much like weapons, armor could be incredibly diverse, offering different ways to approach combat situations depending on the situation. She immediately got to work on the first piece. [ 1/2 ] [ 11/13 ]

A lot of time was put into the first Tousei Gusoku, focusing first on creating the armor itself. This process required a mixture of materials, mainly wood, steel, and leather. With a combination of these materials, she was able to make several armor plates. These plates alone did not make the armor complete, that is until they were laced together to form the pieces of the Tousei Gusoku. With leather and silk cords, Kaminari was able to hold the plates in the proper places while achieving the design requested for both armor sets, with a special helmet included. A little bit of detailing work was added to these pieces before they were sent off: shining of the metal plates and the helmet, a light wax coating on the laces, all to show her dedication to her craft and the love she put into every piece. After creating the Tousei Gusoku armor sets, Kaminari was realizing the potential of her craft. Not only that, but the improvement she was making in herself; it made her really proud to know that what she was doing would benefit her home. Another armor project came just as quickly as they went, and the young samurai immediately went to work. Her hammer banging away at steel plates, loudly echoing throughout the forge. The heat no longer bothered her as much anymore, for she had long grown used to the intense heat and physical labor of the job. This armor piece was very basic in design, but offered unique qualities that set it apart form any armor piece she had made so far. It took a little time to put together, and once it was finished, as usual Kaminari was proud of her work. [ 1/1 ] [ 13/13 ]

As days continued to pass, Kaminari found that a majority of her time was being spent at the forge. There wasn't much going on in Zaishin these days, causing a bit of worry for stagnation among its people in the samurai. Much like her sword play and weapon proficiency, Kaminari would hone her crafting skill with the same devotion in order to restore her home to its former glory. Her work was becoming known around the village already, and it filled her with a sense of gratitude that her fellow samurai and citizens were so fond of them. This specific piece of armor was made for the young Seiryuu child she saved during the war, wanting to provide him protection always, even when she wasn't around. A little something to remember her by, in a way. She wondered how the child was doing, and if he'd grow up to become a strong samurai for their home. [ 1/1 ] [ 14/18 ]

The intricacies of scroll crafting was a new endeavor that the young Raiu clansman was willing to take on. The use of scrolls were somewhat common in the Samurai world, generally used by those with knowledge and proficiency with sealing techniques. The capabilities that such scrolls possessed were boundless, though typically their main usage was for storage. Kaminari was determined to discover the possibilities of these scrolls and put them to use for the benefit of her village. It also made sense for her to carry around a scroll, given that she was an aspiring weapon master, however this was remedied by her extensive training in utilizing a singular weapon for multiple purposes through various techniques. Learning to work wood into paper, scrolls were made. [ 1/1 ] [ 15/18 ]

Initially, these scrolls weren't very special in regards to their capabilities. She was only able to create the most basic of scrolls used for writing or any technique that required a blank scroll. She didn't have much experience with the Fuuinjutsu arts as of yet, and their mechanics overall were very foreign to her. Hopefully, through this craft, she can learn enough about both to use them efficiently. The process of shaving and working wood required much more physical labor than she anticipated. However, Kaminari had gone through several methods of extreme physical conditioning - her demon combat training and now working at the forge - so, her body was more than capable of handling the work. Once the wood pieces were shaped accordingly, they could be rolled, thus capable of serving as a scroll for a variety of uses. [ 1/1 ] [16/18 ]

The familiarity with scroll crafting was growing with each project she completed. The knowledge gained from honing this craft would prove more than valuable for Zaishin and its future. Creating even the most basic of scroll was a very simple task, taking little to no time at all to create. However, with her newfound knowledge, Kaminari discovered she was able to create summoning scrolls and unique expansion scrolls. The young samurai had no knowledge of how summoning worked, but was rather excited about the expansion scrolls. Scrolls that contained techniques that could be used by anyone who read them - she could improve Zaishin's academy training with these! For starters, she created some scrolls containing techniques and training of Bukijutsu styles for young and aspiring samurai to use. [ 1/1 ] [ 17/18 ]

Reaching the pinnacle of scroll crafting in her career, the potential for unique properties of the scrolls were boundless now. Stronger tier of summons could be created, as well as scrolls of knowledge. Through the honing of this craft, Kaminari was able to gain a little bit of understand of how fuuinjutsu and summoning worked. She knew that in order to use it proficiently though, that she'd have to undergo more learning and training in those arts specifically. The scrolls of knowledge would come in handy in many of Zaishin's dojos and academies, serving as a strong foundation for those on the path to becoming samurai for Zaishin. The young Raiu clansman got to work on one of her greatest scroll creations, a selection of scrolls containing unique and secret Raiu clan techniques only known by her master, including a few of her own derivatives. Once they were finished, she'd lock them away in a hidden place where only she could access them. [ 1/1 ] [ 18/18 ]

The week prior to making the decision to hone her skills as an enchanter, the young Samurai found themselves up to their forehead in various books and scripts on many different herbs. The Land of Iron was known to contain an abundance of resources, as far as ores and minerals were concerned due to their location. However, the nations climate was not suitable for the more common herbs and plants found in the Shinobi nations. Still, what herbs the area did possess, were the rarest among them all, if not just for being able to thrive in the Land of Iron's harsh conditions alone wasn't a testament to that. A specific herb once extracted, had the capabilities of cooling whatever substance it was enchanted to.

With what rare herbs Kaminari was able to discover in her homeland, she was able to extract them of their materials with a lab that was recently built in order to facilitate such projects. The Land of Iron was recovering from a heavy state of loss, requiring the nation to take advantage of their abundance of resources to advance their development and technology that would aid in a better, brighter future. Through the use of these extracted materials, the Samurai could enchant the armor and weapons were apart of their way of life, granting them mystical and powerful boons to further aid them. A seal was crafted to enchant one of her swords, further enhancing one of its properties to a new level. Her skill with enchanting was continuing to improve, but there was much work to be done, for the benefit of her homeland, Zaishin.

With each passing day, the lab was improving in its methods for extraction of various herbs for their materials. With the funds acquired, a research team was put together, enabling the enchantment skill of workers in the lab to improve tremendously. Through their research and gathering missions, more rare herbs were discovered and this allowed Kaminari and fellow crafters to enchant their items with properties that were never seen before. Applying elemental combinations through the special properties of the extracted materials granted the items incredibly unique effects that could mimic or fully take on their attributes. In some cases, even empower the very element themselves, which was more useful to the five noble clans, for their abilities were connected to a singular element. Applying one of these special enchantments to a fellow Raiu clan member's blade brought their lightning capabilities to new heights.

This was the kind of devotion and excellence the young Raiu clanswoman wanted to see in the people of Zaishin. Working together to achieve incredible feats in the honor, loyalty, and duty of their homeland. With further research, likely the pinnacle of enchantment capabilities, they were able to discover a way to apply these special enhancements to one's body. These enchantments affected other types of chakra present in the body, granted by things such as cursed marks, sage chakra, and celestial chakra. With Zaishin's devotion to the Golden Dragon and the powers it granted most samurai, these new enchantments would prove beneficial to those chosen, among other things. An incredibly unique seal was created that could enhance ones physicality, as most Samurai were physical fighters and could benefit from it.

An uncommon art, as far as the Samurai were concerned, the crafting of various mechanisms often garnered the interests and expertise of puppeteers. The use of puppets was incredibly rare in Zaishin, however, with the raise of the new generation Samurai, there were a select few who dabbled in the art. Kaminari was able to discover such puppeteers, one who hoped to combine the puppetry arts with swordplay and the unique resources the land provided them. A master mechanist themselves, the young Raiu clanswoman allowed them to guide her through the process of creating such unique mechanisms. In their own workshop, were several puppets littered the area, resembling samurai figures or famous works of kabuki theatre.

While she had very little interest in puppetry herself, Kaminari found that learning this particular craft could help her better understand the unique style of combat that few samurai of the land incorporated. However, she was more interested in putting the land's vast resources to use in the form of technology, that could further advance their country as a whole, while still upholding to the traditions that made Zaishin what it was today. Tinkering with rather small devices, Kaminari first had to learn basic assembly and disassembly of various parts with intricate tools she had never used before. This didn't take too long to master, applying the same principles she used when mastering the sword to these numerous tools, eventually using them with relative ease, allowing her to create a very rudimentary device with a simple function.

From small remotes with a singular button function to battery-powered mini-shield generators, Kaminari was slowly discovering her talent for creating mechanisms. With her mentor guiding her along the way, she learned many valuable lessons in working with the various intricacies that came with mechanisms. With proper skill, these mechanisms could have limited combat functions, which her mentor showed by displaying one of the devices he built - one still in testing - a chakra cannon. It was the first... unique weapon Kaminari had ever laid eyes on, while she listened to her mentor's speech about hoping to create a solid defense for the city, so that Zaishin would not suffer as great a loss from attacks as they have in the past. For her first test in creating more advanced mechanisms, she was tasked with replicating her mentor's creation from the ground up. Utilizing his workshop as her own for a couple of days, the young samurai was able to get incredibly familiar with every tool and piece of the creation, diligently, yet carefully putting it together.

The chakra cannon replication took more time than Kaminari wanted to admit to, but after all the sweat and toil she had put into its creation, at the very least she could say that she was proud of it. Her mentor came to inspect her work, nodding in approval. However the real test was starting it up. The way the mechanism worked was by first loading in a chakra battery, or two depending on the mode. Its initial mode was being tested, which was the rapid firing of smaller cannons, only requiring one of the largest chakra batteries one could create. Once it was loaded in, the mentor pressed a button on the remote, causing the cannon to fire. Four small chakra cannons launched from the cannon out of the open area in the back of her mentor's workshop, composed completely of chakra. They were impressed with her work, considering her an official master of mechanism creation. Kaminari was proud of herself, and hoped that she could put her newfound skills to use in order to better her country, for the sake of the people who lived there.
