So we're old now. We got jobs, families, responsibilities.

Ripped from the bosom of our upbringing into this planet we occupy... what are you up to these days? How's life?

I encourage folks to only share as much as they're comfortable, and please be mindful of that.

I wore a lot of hats since my time as an 04/05 (I forget the launch year) Gaian, which I joined through a friend who turned me on to the site in high school.

These days I work a lot with youtube in the background with content creators (not with Google/YouTube) with scripts, voice work (my voice is a**), ideas, etc as a passion project.

I also stream. And I won't be sharing any of those links, lol

I find this website fascinating in how it's retained an older audience who seems to largely coalesce with each other in a variety of ways. I know a lot of current GDers and many former ones, and they know me. Maybe not now, but it's cool to see people floating around or at times, running into them in the wild!

Hello~!

I'm originally an '05 recruit to Gaia, after my sister got me started here when she got us IP banned from Neopets. sweatdrop

I remember Gaia was such a major part of my early teenage years, as it was where I really got a space to discuss my opinions and get into really worthwhile debates that helped shape my worldview going forward. At the same time, I remember the scene kid era from that time, and how badly I wanted to be like the "cool kids" and get popular as a "prommie" in the GD. It never happened (probably for the best), but it was definitely a dream of little teenager me to be cool enough to be recognized.

Nowadays, I'm an operations specialist for a solar observatory on Maui. I went from being a weeby gal from Tennessee to getting a physics degree and going into telescope operations. I also went from being a kid who was afraid of even potentially getting hurt to now doing performance/circus arts as a hobby. I specialize in poledancing and aerial hoop/lyra, and have the bruises and calluses to prove it. lol

Anyway, it's neat to see how things have changed so much for the people who have been around for so long. We all started as teenagers in the early days of the internet taking off, and it fundamentally shaped us. Now, we're still returning to these old haunts and practically forgotten relics of the old days of the internet. I'm glad to see Gaia is still around. I do think it's funny that they still hold to their PG13 rules given the actual age of most users, but it's nice to see that we all still love the nostalgia of this website that helped raise us.

it is interesting, right?

i remember being the tender age of 14 amongst us talking a bunch of mess for the time and while my old account(s) are deleted, i made a lot of friends here

when i closed my (at that time, a newer) account after all the trials and tribulations of childhood pained me a bit leaving it behind.

almost died several times, been with (now married) the same person for 15ish years, ended up doing my passion for zero money but did it.

and y'know for as s**t as the world may be, i really try to focus on community.

There's a non-zero chance we already knew each other, but it's really cool to come back fresh with older GDers cause even if we knew each other then, we certainly don't now!

Welcome in! Feel free to suggest if you know anyone who may be interested.

I dont remember which specific years I was here but I was a Gder sometime between 2007-2011 and was a little scene kid teenager in the era of tinychat, vocaroo, couple drops etc.

I left a toxic relationship in 2020 and hopped on habbo hotel, another old game i played in my gaia days… and subsequently met my partner without any intention of ever dating someone online. We kept our relationship off the game and strictly to video and phone calls, met up at a halfway point and had to quarantine during our first meet because it was covid times and I had to cross the border to see him. The rest is history. I moved in later that year from east coast USA to west coast Canada and we got a house shortly after. We get married next month and have a child together.

I went to school for a bunch of different things before moving here and ultimately started building a career as a paralegal even though i didnt study anything relevant to that. I went on maternity leave then became a stay at home mom (daycare waitlists are 2 years up here so not much of a choice).

We just moved to a new city and I guess I came back to gaia hoping to rekindle old friendships and make new ones while Im a little lacking friends here in person. Obviously trying to make irl friends too but sometimes its difficult even making plans with those when youre a mom. My partner works away in another province every 2 weeks so im stuck solo parenting 50% of the year… not leaving much time for in person hangouts.

oh based and big congrats on the partner, kiddo <3

yeah y'know part of why i joined back up is growin up with the internet, i had an established group of friends who i'm still besties with, which i'm to understand is pretty rare considering we aren't all shitlords? lol

but yeah, i moved out heer where i'm at cause my partner got an incredible job. got sick so i'm currently disabled but they're incredible and i do what i can.

but when when i was working, trying to make new friends was like... oddly difficult. both for time and just like... the times or something. i'm sure a lot of it was me, but third spaces really dried up even before the pandemic.

i've made a really incredibly community online, especially for like mutual aid and things like that.

but there was always a little twinge after I quite several years ago (gaia) having been here since... I wanna say 04/05? and how many friends i still have from here.

so here i am.

that's gotta be rough given the whole-a** pandemic, what it means, and how weird things were at that time. Gotta love a story against all odds.I'm an upper-midwesterner in the US right up on Canada. Good people from what I've seen, being less than an hour or less from the border. But like all folks, they aren't a monolith. From my experience, great folks. Certainly several steps better than your average Yank, I'd imagine.

and welcome!

i'm really glad you found your partner in a space you presumably felt comfortable with; that's such a cool success story by any measure. big shout out to you and your partner <3

Sup guys, back in the day when i joined Gaia, we had dial up internet and I would always hang out and talk with my irl friends in the car rally thing, my parents would always cut us off the internet to make phone calls. Things have changed a LOT since then ofc. I like to make music and play guitar, those are my hobbies. 3nodding

Hello, Everyone!

I'm Dumpster Jedi, and I've been on gaia since November '03. I spent the majority of my years on gaia in the chatterbox, and I've had many accounts over the years. I'm a SAHM of four minions, and I've been with my partner for 16 years now. I love playing video games, and coming on here when I get a chance to dress up my avi. :gu_dumb:

hell yeah! i've been w/ my partner for around that long, if not that long.

i might be making a singular-focused discord just for voice chat including gaming sometime but seeing how this pans out first. what do you like to play?
