They need each other.
Technically, I'd say Dean, but I love Sam so much, and Dean needs Sam because Sam thinks a little more logically sometimes, and vice versa.

Killin demons with it's mind makes Sam a great hunter. But we have to admit that Gordon is a great vampire hunter and Ash is a genius!!
