Well, I've seen art shops and art auctions on Gaia.
I don't really get how an art auction works.

I'd like to sell some of my art to help me earn some more gold.

So, can someone tell me how art shops and art auctions work?
And which would help me earn more gold? Which would help me earn gold more quickly?

I only know how to run a shop (since I have one) but I can't give you much advice on making a shop SUCCESSFUL (since mine's not ^_^;; )

Opening a Shop

1.) Go to 'Minishops' in Gaia Gaming
2.) Click on the subforum 'Requests and Commissions'
3.) This is where people can find your shop!
4.) Click on 'New Topic'
5.) Your thread title is going to be your shop name, so give it some sparkle so people can remember it better.
6.) The way you organize your shop is really up to you. Some people are really organized and list rules, regulations, prices, FAQ, waiting list, etc. all in different 'bubbles' to make it easier to read.
7.) People just post up stuff they want you to draw, or they PM you.
8.) To get money for your art, they have to send a trade to you with money in it. You accept the trade and start drawing. You send the 'sample' pic back to them and if they like it they'll accept.
9.) You accept, you get the money, you send them the final link for their picture (advise them to save it to their browser)
10.) Advertise your shop so they know you exist and that's it!

(lol that's just the basics... I'm not pro, go ask someone else about that ^_^)

I do that Okiyami*raises hand* though lately I've ran away from my shop b/c I'm lasy, I want to do a group art shop sometime so I don't have to do all the work nyah(course no one will want me with that attitude hahaha) But anyway I make around 3k to 4k per picture so it really is a money maker on gaia.

Its not, but its so that you know your drawings right. So they won't get the pic and go 'Hey I don't like this' and demand their money back. Just saves a lot of problems ^_^

I see.
Though that can be a problem if I sketch by pencil, since I don't have a scanner at my house. neutral

*now waits for info on art auctions*

I've never done an art auction (particpated in a joint one, but that's nothin'), but I think shops are probably easier, at least. You can accept or reject anyone, you know what price you're getting, and you don't have to check the thread to update the highest bid (heck, you can just have people PM you their orders!)

Tips if you start a commish shop:

1. Start your prices a bit lower than you expect you'll get, then raise them until you're comfortable with the amount of traffic you're getting. (Lower prices = more customers.)
2. Sample pictures! Lots of them! People want to be sure of the quality of art they're getting. It also gives customers a better idea of what you can do.
3. Make sure a customer's order is hammered out before you agree to do it, and make sure they start a trade for your payment before you start drawing.
4. If you don't think you can do a certain request, tell the person so. If they retract their order, they might still request a less complex drawing later. If you just give them a crappy drawing, they'll probably never come back.

Sounds dorky, but honesty is the best policy! =D

As for art auctions... I think they work something like this:

1. Decide on what the minimum bid, minimum bid increment, and if you wish, auto-bid will be, and when the auction starts and ends.
(Minimum bid = the least amount of gold the first bid can be
Minimum bid increment = least amount more gold the next bidder must bid
Auto-bid = price at which the bidder automatically wins the auction, hands-down. Optional.)
2. Start a thread in the art auction subforum. Include info form #1, art samples, what you will and will not draw, what type of art the winner will recieve (CG fullbody, portrait, etc.). Make a place to post the current highest bidder and all the previous bid/ders.
3. When someone bids, put them in the current highest bidder place. When someone outbids that perosn, but that bidder in the current-highest place, and the first person under in the previous bidders section.
4. When the auction ends... uh, well, I guess you just yell "DOODS, AUCTION'S OVER. ___ WINS!" and draw that person whatever they want you to and get your gold.

Sorry 'bout being so wordy. sweatdrop
